If we’re talking about dungeons, then we have to talk about the most prolific dungeon maker in all of D&D; the scourge Acererak, lich lord of a thousand dungeons, designed so that people die in them to feed his endless hunger for souls.

Aww. You didn't mention my favorite dragon. The steel dragon. Much more fascinated with the mortal races than other dragons, the steels will spend their whole lives in mortal guises, shedding one life when appropriate, and moving on to another. Forgetting all memories of their previous personas. Their hoard is made up of a single item from each of their personas that personifies that life. Upon the steel dragons death, the hoard is distributed among the mortal races unbiasedly.

Party idea: everyone is a dragon in human form pretending to be humans, elves, etc... No one knows the others are dragons and so are going to great lengths to hide their own draconic origin and appear to be completely normal to the rest of the party. Everyone holds back and no one uses the op abilities for fear of being found out. Now you have an entire party of creatures that could tear a pit fiend apart but is pretending to struggle with orcs and goblins so they can fit in and stay with their "human" friends.

Kinda? Coppers are legendary pranksters. While Bronzes are pretty much the epitome of the "Good is not 'Nice'." Trope. Bronzes typically do the "Beauty and the Beast" thing of shapshifting themselves into the form of some unassuming mortal to 'test' members of the humanoid races. You pass and nothing happens, you fail and you get punished in some way.

    You're only scratching the surface
The oldest red dragon and the oldest gold dragon are as nothing compared to a newly hatched Prismatic, Force or time Dragon
Literally a hatchling is more powerful then any of the chromatic or metallic dragon variance at any age category

Just found out a mobile game I used to play when I was younger called Dragonvale, which is meant to be a game with many friendly dragons you breed and keep in set habitats copied D&D for the two mythical type dragons in the game, Bahamut and Tiamat. They are literally carbon copies lmao

Dragons don’t sound wholly “evil” to me. In fact their behavior and attitude towards other living things sounds 100% exactly like humans. I’m sure any “lesser” creature would describe us like this.

Well you have to remember that dragons are born with a certain base personality type. Reds due to their aggressiveness, superiority status to kill their siblings when they hatch. All dragons when they hatch can speak and some species are born smarter than humans. Their are no good red dragons nor evil silver dragons, unless powerful magic is involved.

    You forgot song dragons. Smh.
Song dragons are similar in shape to copper dragons but have iridescent silver-blue scales and often take the form of women. They're known to even fall in love with humans.
You should read Richard Lee Byers' The Year Of Rogue Dragons trilogy. It's an amazing story with a TON of dragons.

I like the dragons Pathfinder came up with: Esoteric Dragons (Astral, Dream, Etheric, Nightmare, Occult); Outer Dragons (Lunar, Solar, Time, Void, Vortex); Planar (Apocalypse, Bliss, Crypt, Edict, Havoc, Infernal, Paradise, Rift); Imperial (Forest, Sea, Sky, Sovereign, Underworld); and Primal (Brine, Cloud, Crystal, Magma, Umbral). There are so many types of dragons in Pathfinder of various strengths and habitats that you can reasonably add a dragon to any campaign setting.

The interaction between Bilbo and Smaug basically sparked a lifetime love of the Dragon. Its Ego, its culture, it's motivation fascinates me... I always wanted a GM that could do justice to the idea of a dragon hunt, or a raid on a particularly old dragon's hoard. Never got it. When GM'ing others, I was always inclined to make the dragon far more difficult to deal with than might otherwise be expected, by really fleshing out the encounter to be far more than a test of stats and luck. Needless to say, I find "Dragonlance" to be a detestable bit of D&D history that reduced noble and ancient enigmas to steeds and fodder.

    Interesting Tidbits:
Red Dragons aren't conscious when they fight. Their brain literally shuts off and they fight to victory or death (or knocked out entirely, which is hard enough with a creature no longer relying on most of their brain). Most other dragons similarly don't remember fights that well, depending on circumstances.
Similarly, when a chromatic and a metallic dragon meet, they're not all there and they will fight. There is no chance they won't. And they usually don't treat it as something special if they remember it. So your metallic dragon polymorphed NPC the players are talking to might see a red dragon, transform into their real form, fight to the death and once it's over, polymorph back and be like "as I was saying, the market here really overprices their apples".
For silver's in general you can treat them like someone watching a TV show, but with a habit of stopping for a few years before coming back. "What do you mean they cancelled the show?" is the amount of reaction a silver dragon would have to the death of a friend. Though of course they can form closer relationships.
Dragons don't really have much of a fixed lifespan, their effective lifespan depends on how dangerous their type tends to be and when they end up being killed (similar to elves).
Kobolds will usually think of any dragon that shares their color as a god-like being, almost equal to their own God (who got tricked and imprisoned by a gnomish god for a trivial matter, hence Kobolds and Gnomes will behave like Metallics and Chromatics upon meeting). They're also goddamn cute if your DM lets them be. On the flipside, Kobolds are masters at trapmaking, when a dragon has a troupe of kobolds, they usually let the kobolds make traps. A band of kobolds (usuall 20 to 100 in size, depending on lair) can take it up with Level 20 parties easily, since they avoid direct confrontation and will instead convert their latrines into IED's once they notice adventurers coming into their lair. Their hordes usually contain magic items that help.

    • @McDonaldWilliamT
      @McDonaldWilliamT 3 ปีที่แล้ว

More or less. Though a lot of it is nature and nurture. A red dragon raised by a typical red dragon will pretty much always be a prideful, evil asshole. Even a wyrmling raised from birth by say, a group of good aligned adventurers will be vain and territorial and won't respond well to being punished for its actions. This is basically because *all* dragons regardless of species in D&D see themselves as superior to other species.
