Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for doing it. Keep the reaction coming. The other link I put is even funnier, it discusses Adam n Eve and it has two funny sketches in it, try and do that one soon. I know it seems like a touchy subject but anything Dave Allen does he either takes from his childhood, his own life or what he has observed generally in life. Unlike comedians who cross the line, his standup was always funny but realistic and never too offensive really.

@@TheRealSquirrel don't worry I wouldn't recommend any standup that may offend. I realised that you may of be hesitant in reacting to this. I go to church myself, used to be in the church choir when was s child. So wouldn't recommend anything that would offend anyone or their beliefs. I remember watching his standup shows in the early 90s with my parents when I was 16/17.

@@TheRealSquirrel Here in the UK many of us are atheist or agnostic and even though we may say we belong to the Church of England, very few of us actually attend church....however, we are also pretty tolerant and many religions co-exist here, it is not unusual to see a Catholic , a Christian and a Methodist Church standing close by a Synagogue and a Mosque in large towns....of course all countries have conflicts but in general the only thing we don't tend to like here is over zealousness or people trying to force their beliefs onto you....having said that, my PERSONAL belief is that all religions are just a form of brainwashing and children should be left until they are adults to discover and make up their own minds about what they believe to be true......if there is a God, of any kind, then he has a lot to answer for. You will find a lot of 'anti-Christian' material within British comedy, Ricky Gervais is a good example....

  • @Maerahn

What was great about Dave Allen was that his jokes and mockery of all things religious was from a good and gentle place; he never belittled or attacked those who believed, he just made hilarious, childlike observations about many of those beliefs, and had fun with them. Even while he made jokes about his Catholic upbringing, he would still end every one of his shows with the very respectful sign-off "Goodnight, and may your gods go with you." Gods PLURAL, because even back then he appreciated that different people had different faiths, and, even if YOU didn't believe in their god, you can still respect THEIR right to do so. And in the end, what earned him the wrath of the broadcasting authorities and subsequently kicked off tv for a while was one, off-the-cuff use of the F-word in one of his shows. Weird times.

He always finished his shows by saying ' Thank you Goodnight, and may your God go with you. ' he poked fun at certain bizarre aspects of churches, but didn't attack people's beliefs.. There is stuff of his stretching way back into the 60s and though religion featured often he also went for other topics. Marriage, drinking, smoking, He tells a good gothic horror story or two too.

It was very serious and scared you to bed so Rev I Am Jolly was wonderful, Billy Connolly also did a sketch taking the piss out of these late night ministers his sketch explains this Scottish TV oddness really well. He points out so many of the things that I questioned before I left Christianity. There are just so many inconsistencies in the bible and what priest's tell you. To me that just makes it clear that it simply cannot be true, at least not in the way people are trying to get you to subscribe to. If you believe it, that's fine by me. But religion more often than not really isn't big on tolerance, which is probably the virtue I value most. So, as the years go on I find it harder and harder to give religion the benefit of the doubt.

A good parent brings his children to God by EXAMPLE, not fear. Fear is the Devil's work. The foundation stone of all knowledge of this world is creation itself. Without which everything else seems like nothing but mumbo jumbo. Within which all makes perfect sense.
The RCC is where all goes wrong right from the very start.
IMO until one fully understands the implications of the first sentence of the first book in the Bible, don't even bother reading the rest.
