This is my first time watching this sketch, and I just thought Les was laughing because of the sillyness of the line; knowing that Roy ad libbed on purpose to make Les laugh makes that moment even better...and Roy looked so pleased with himself afterwards. Thanks.
Great comedian Les I met him a few times back when I was about 15 when Les lived across the road from my mates parents house in St Annes. Just standing around having a bacon sandwich in my mates Mums kitchen with Les he was just as funny as when he was doing his act. RIP Les Dawson one of our greatest comedians, taken too soon.
As a Brit and like others have said we call them 'miniatures'. All I would add is they are marked as '5cl' (Cubic Litres?) which equates to 50ml, so the same size as yours.
My dad was very anti drinking and driving. He used to keep a stick of miniatures for parties. He would ask who was the designated driver. He would give designated drivers several miniatures as they were leaving telling them to enjoy a drink when they got home 🐿️🏴
I am surprised that you laughed at all to be honest. I didn’t think Americans or anyone but the English would get this. I love it. This is my favourite. But it is a style of humour which is already out of fashion over here in the UK. Only the older generations will still enjoy this. It is so very English. Dinner Ladies is absolute Gold. Also Open all hours. Very much loved by us. Don’t know what young people would make of it.
Miniatures, and Roy Barraclough, Les would go off script There is The Audience With That Never Was Les Dawson, it was shown a few years ago with his widow Tracy and their daughter Charlotte The characters here are based on Over The Garden Wall, and how the women would speak in cotton mills and factories, as they couldn't hear over the noise
The characters would have been from the NorthWest arround the Lancashire mill towns where they were noth born. Roy and Les used to do the characters just for a bit of fun and to entertain the crew during times they weren't filming, the producer suggested they used the characters in the show and they went with it.
I've only ever heard those small bottles called "miniatures"
Yep, miniatures.
In our house, those bottles are called “empty”
😂
In our shop those bottes are called minitures.
'Florrie's cream lagoon' was unscripted, Roy and Les always tried to make eachother corpse. Roy suceeded more than Les did.

We don't drink such piddling amounts and expect to be taken seriously.
Les (short for Leslie) is pronounced 'Lez'.
Is this set in Oxford? Just the fact that I couldn't tell if they were women pretending to be men or men pretending to be women!!
