You need to do the Golden Fox Work Boots 6" Men's Moc Toe Wedge Comfortable Boot for Construction it claims to have real leather welt “rust-6301” this one has 2 piece Moc toe
They are actually really good I used them for years. But the one thing that shows the price is the outsole. it starts to rub away slowly. If used 55 hours a week. The heel is at least 50% gone after 8 to 9 months.
That's honestly not too uncommon for a cheap polyurethane outsole. Even Carolina boots (2x the price) will lose the outsole at about that rate.@@LordMesa
@@LordMesa , Sureway boots are a lot better. Leather is very nice on the Sureway, but they dont cut the corners on construction. Sureway is like a Rockrooster without the weather welt. Otherwise, Thorogood or Carolina is your next best bet in terms of quality, but I bet the Sureways will last just as long as the Thorogoods for less than half the price and will be just as comfortable. You can buy two Sureways for the price of a Thorogood, and you won't have to bother with resoling the first pair after it wears out.
I bought these 10 years ago. I even resoled them. The welt cracked in several spots, the fabric liner rubbed through, and two speed hooks broke off. But still they’re my beaters. Good for farm work, mowing grass, and roof repair. For the money it is a decent boot.

Not to mention, the Enzo and the moc toe, in this review, are their entry level boots. They have a heritage line also, that is supposedly better made. You need to check those out!
A great point made is that for people interested in this sort of boot that this is a cheap way to get into it to see if its something that makes sense. Too often people dive head first and buy something expensive/great then the boot just sits in the closet instead of doing what it does best. For $100 if you decide you aren't into it then it isn't like your throwing away much value if it sits in a closet not getting worn much at all.

I love it. I've been patiently waiting to see if you would get to this boot for moctober. The liner less version is the superior choice for this boot. Quick side note, golden fox offers a heritage moctoe boot and I believe they claim to be American made with better materials, like a leather welt. Keep up the great work, love what you do. Came for the cut up Converse years later and I'm still here for the boots. 🔥👍
I have a pair of the golden fox boondockers and they basically skipped the foam liner and used a very thick crêpe rubber outsole. It’s nice to know the GY welt claim is true and for 120 bucks that I got them for I’m pleasantly surprised that I got something good for my money. They’ve been one of my #1 boots since I got them last October. So minus the crumbly foam and the moc toe they are very similar and for 120 bucks it was a hard deal to beat
I have these and I wear them as a casual boot for work around my house and just out. I really like them, they are not high end, but they are comfortable and have been reliable for me.
WARNING: they run very large. I’m an 11 and can get comfortable 10.5 for those brands that run large but even the 10 is a little loose. Definitely size down 1. They’re great beaters, I don’t mind getting wet and dirty. At their website Outlet, they are $40-60 but NOT returnable so size correctly. At those prices they’re very good.
I m in painting/drywall and i like these because I want a boot i can take a firm brush to get paint and mud off,and knowing I m not destroying a pricey work boot. I have a different model that has none of that cheap lining inside. All in all a good cheap boot that serves its purpose.
The problem is that these crappy cheaper products LOOK just as good as more expensive, higher quality products...and when you're buying on Amazon, you cant feel the difference. So people think ''Hey, this looks just as good and is half the price of the other one!'', also people are not informed about quality and craftsmanship, most people dont know that leather exists on a quality spectrum. They just read: ''Genuine, best quality, oil tanned' and they're thinking its a catch. P.S. could you do the Mephisto Cruiser?
Most of their work boots are made in china. But their american heritage boots are made here in ontario, california. You should feature those to compare to the american brands. For 199.99
If the foam wasn't crumbling, it would actually be really nice for the price. Especially if you compare them to most sneakers (with fake leather or canvas for 100/150 dollars or more).
The foam is pretty difficult to access and doesn't really affect the experience of wearing the boot. It's buried within the leather of the boot. It definitely cheapens the feel of the boot to the touch, but the boot is constructed quite well for under $100.
40+ years ago I was hired by a Federal Government engineering agency, on day one they provided me safety equipment including a set of boots made by prison labor. Was a little uncomfortable with that but frankly they were the best boots I've ever had. Lasted for decades; only got rid of them because the damage to the thread due to construction site material and just needed the space (ie didn't want to move them again).
Amazon may sell these but you can't wear them while working most jobs for the company, as composite toe safety shoes are required. Fortunately all employees get a $100 shoe credit from Zappos each year.
This series is so good you guys. I’m sold on supporting your business and I think I’m gonna grab one of your wallets or leather belts. Keep being awesome, good/honest Americans!!
Sounds like this boot is a good way to Shane companies without the real Goodyear Welt construction. Like everything more expensive than this but still made in cheap labor countries should have equal or better construction techniques, and real leather if the $96 boot can do it.
I have a 6 year old pair of Wolverine cemented steel toes that were about this same price. The leather has held up well, the fabric lining has held up well and they have been on my feet through many miles of woods, asphalt and gravel. This pricepoint of boot holds up well and is comfy for working. The downside is the outsoles are worn out, but after 6 years I'm not mad about it. Still work fine as garage boots.
I have a pair of these and they're great for a quick put on boot for things like getting the mail, mowing the lawn, etc. I think I got mine for $70 bucks and they're as comfortable as a sneaker. Are they gonna last? Of course not. But for the price I can't actually complain
I have over 40 pairs of boots and felt like I needed a pair of black moc toes to add to the mix. Since I have a large rotation going, I decided to go with a less expensive pair that I knew wouldn’t get a lot of use. I found a pair of these same Golden Fox’s in black on sale for $70 last year. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by the quality. Are they the best constructed boots I have? No, but don’t need them to be. For a fashion, knock around boot that I wear 1-2 times a month, they serve their purpose well. I just picked up their Boondocker and Overland boot on sale as I’ve heard they are decent, budget service boot. For someone looking to get into boots, Golden Fox is a great place to start out as you can’t beat the value.
These Golden Fox Boots don't last more than a year. But I loved them. Super Comfortable. I get a $200 voucher a year for work and I just buy 2 pairs every year.
I have a Flexispot desk! Was surpised to see it advertized here as I'd never heard of the brand before I bought one. I've had it for 3 years and it's the best desk I've ever had. I don't know how many people actually pay attention to the ads, but if you need a desk I can say I've really enjoyed mine.
Some of the features of this put larger brands that produce boots at a similar or slightly higher price range to shame. For that to have a goodyear welt, you begin to ask why other brands can't
I had a steel toe pair of these that I used for work as an mechanic at a dealership. They lasted over 2 years and I put them through hell not worrying at all where or what I stepped on as well as kicking lift arms underneath cars on a daily basis. The only reason I finally got rid of them was I upgraded to a pair of Red Wing moc toe boots that I got through a work program. The wedge sole is pretty slip and oil resistant and didn’t wear down as fast as other moc toe boots I’ve had with rubber soles. They are surprisingly comfortable if you get a pair of better insoles and Golden fox does offer some unlined options that cost a little bit more. I would definitely recommend these to anyone who wants a decent work boot, for the money you can’t really go wrong with these.
I actually bought a pair of Thursday boots because of your reviews! I find your input very valuable and I love learning about leather and shoe construction
I have these Golden Fox boots. I also have Red Wing, Thorogood, Carolina's, etc... I am placing an order for the White's soon. I will say that I prefer and mostly wear the Golden Fox vs. the more premium brands! Here is what I like about the GF: Much lighter in weight than the other more premium brands (I was surprised you didn't mention this?); I don't like speed laces on shorter boots, I prefer eye-lets (the only other boot with eye-lets is the Redwing); Very comfortable; I like a liner in the boot. I live in Western Oregon and it would cost over $100 to have someone reputable (40 miles away) re-sole these boots with a Vibram sole. I suspect GF made a similar boot years ago that was branded by Cabelas. I wore the Cabelas daily on a 1 year house remodel project. The uppers wore great. The sole was different than the current GF and wore-out (became dangerously smooth and slick). I think the GF soles are wearing much better. It didn't seem like a good value to resole a boot this inexpensive. So, I bought the GF and all the other more premium boots to do my own compare. You need to remember that the GF boot is less expensive than a tennis shoe and more comfortable! .
I was curious about golden fox. I was looking at their boondocker because the spec sheet looked good and they're the same price as these. Interesting to see that they're actually worth the $100 and not crap like I was expecting for the price
I have a pair of these. Honestly, I've been really pleased with them. Comfort and looks at a budget friendly price. I don't wear them every day or use them for work but have used them often enough, wear is quite acceptable IMO.
I have a pair of Boondockers, they are comfortable and have been great for me, but haven't had them long enough to comment on longevity. Would love to see a Boondocker video here.
Been a while since I saw the vid. Caught this one because I want to try moc toes without breaking the bank. Videos have improved markedly. Nice diagrams, nice highlighting of material on screen, no words wasted I'd say. Great improvements man, loved this video.
I wear these boots year round for work as carpenter/ remodeler and i have no issues with them. Also have a second pair as casual wear. For the money they are great as work boots last me about 16 months. If you work as a concrete laborer or other " heavy work they might last too long. They take awhile to break in is the only down side for me.
I’m a thorogood boot guy ,but I bought the round toe golden fox 8” and I really like them..I kinda think the sole is tougher then thorogoods..and the leather is pretty good! Thorogoods are up to almost 300 bucks ..And those Thorogood soles wear out very quick..I’m kinda liking my 100$ boots ..
I bought these for casual in black and then bought the Brown round toe work boots from GF. I wore the brown ones for about 14 months or more to work after they died I just started to work in the black moc toes. Good boots for construction not real heavy duty but tough enough for electric work and priced fair. Great videos very detailed .
I have a paid of these and use them moderately... no complaints. They're comfy enough, look much better than they have a right to, and have lasted me a good while (again, I don't use these every day).
I'm not surprised at all, because the Golden Fox Boondocker boot is considered one of the best affordable goodyear welted boots out there, and several youtubers have reviewed them. Many consider their boondocker the best gateway boot if you're looking to get started. This was before Thursday boots came around though.
I have the Rockrooster blundstone chelsea workboot (reinforced rubber toe cap) copies and they are better than blundstones! Way more comfy and at least as durable. I have had both and when I wore my blundstones out I went with Rockrooster and have been exceptionally surprised. I am stoked to see their moc toe breakdown.
I live in Taiwan. There is a local company, here in Taichung, that hand-makes boots that are meant to be nearly identical to more expensive boots from around the world. I have two pairs of boots from them, one is essentially the Red Wing Iron Ranger, the other is the Red Wing 875 Moc Toe. Both seem to be very good quality. I've worn the Iron Ranger clones for nearly two years in serious work environments (construction, demolition, metal fabrication, etc) and had zero issues. The crazy thing is that they cost about $100 to $120 (depending on the current exchange rates). I wish there was a way for you to cut one of those in half.
Amazon had Thorogood 6 inch for $200 during prime day bought the brown ones delivered today more comfortable than I thought they would be out of the box..
I’ve had a pair of these for quite a while and if I can’t say anything else about them the outsole is surprisingly durable. Although some people probably push boots harder, I definitely have a lot of hours on them and there’s next to no visible wear on the sole.
Love this series of bargain mocs! I have a pair of Ever Boots, that have been pretty darn good. Would love to see you test/cut apart a pair of those. They’e unlined and none of that pitiful foam that we saw on these.
On Monday, I got a "Markdown Monday" email from Carolina Boot. A pair of insulated leather work boots, normally for $209, for $55. That combined with an online coupon of $22, for a grand total of $33 for leather boots. While Carolina is far from top tier, they do solid boots and to get a solid boot for $33 is a literal steal. And I only found out about Carolina because of Rose Anvil. So yeah, I will give them my business instead of Amazon!
Hello @roseanvil! Have you ever heard about Bonanza boot company from Mexico? They seem to be pretty decent moctoes for their price. It's only 120$ and this is even cheaper than Rockroosters from mexican amazon. Most importantly, they're made in Mexico, not Asia.
I have been waiting for you to review since a min 5yrs. I have used the golden fox since I have received them as a gift. These boots are sold massively locally to farm workers, that usually last the season. I have owned a minimum of 3, 2 for work and 1 for casual wear. The chukka boots are also better than the red wings 😅
If they still made the regular AP611, the Rock Rooster from a couple years back would certainly be a better choice. As is, the VAP611, which is the same boot with a vibram outsole instead of their multi-layer one, is up to $130.
I have a pair of these, but they are seconds. On my feet right now. Been wearing them for five years this December. Great for walking. Very comfortable. Some significant wear on the soles, but overall, at 20 bucks per year worn, hard to beat.
Bought a pair of these from Amazon a few years back. Sole wore out quickly. Tongue fell to the side of my foot on both boots. After 10 months, I replaced them with Wolverine Moc Toes also from Amazon. Now lasted 3 years with the sole holding up really well, and were only $4 more than the Fox Pros.
I worked in an office and i swear everyone used those desks. Theyre very handy for cleaning under and having that extra space to vacuum or do whatever.
I've been wearing mine for a year as a professional chef. They're a bit grimy and have a few gouges on the leather, but the sole has barely worn at all and they've broken in nicely. Bought a couple other pairs in different colors because they're so cheap, even got loggers that look pretty sharp and are well built (though not particularly comfortable).
I prefer the single piece upper because you still get the look, and I burnt all the stitches out of the left boot on my pair of Carolina's with a cutting torch and if it was a 2 piece my boot would have fell apart.
I got the perfect moc toe boot from Amazon which is the “sureway” work boot in dark brown it is extremely comfortable you could walk all day in them they have foam insoles and could take a beating. And for only 86 dollars
Most people buy boots based on their work allowance not what is actually required or comfortable, so they either spend all 200 dollars on a basic pair or spend 100 on a subpar pair and pocket the remainder.
While not a boot kmart use to sell tom McCann dress shoes that looked very similar except it wasn't a high top, had a black bottom and was more of a red wine color. Absolute favorite for 30 bucks growing up.
I thought it was widely known golden fox is the best amazon boot. I buy these frequently and they are surprisingly comfortable. Because the sole is so soft, they wear very fast. Best for indoor/concrete. I can also vouch for "ever boots". They are great boots for $85 but understand they are not $300 boots. Basically the same as these without a inner lining. Id recommend these for those that work around sharp objects and get their boots cut/gouged/holed.
My reflexion on this topic. The issue is that if we all buy Amazon, the the craftsmans or the companies that have been making boots for decades will disappear. When boots will not be interesting for Amazon, then the people that makes the boots for them, will also be in the street. Competition is good, yet we need to aware of the impact of our purchasing decisions. I have been trying to avoid amazon lately, yet is not easy...
As with all the things you do, an EXCELLENT video. HOWEVER for these boots, I feel that you should have taken more time to see that the removable insoles must be THE MOST COMFORTABLE on the market - unless someone can advise me otherwise. About twice a month, I need to spend 10 hours continuously on my feet all day while I give presentations and I take the insoles and use them in other boots or shoes. Golden Fox does sell these separately but unfortunately Amazon does not and Golden Fox will not send them to me here in Brasil.
Muh buddy works for a church in maintenance, they get redwings donated to them on the regular and got me a specific redwing the traction red lite moc toe. Dope boots good friend too
Thanks for all your videos. I started watching a few months ago. They inspired me to buy my first pair of boots in a long, long time - Jim Green African Rangers. Really like them so far. I'll likely buy another pair of boots in the not do distant future, something a step up.
I personally own two pairs of golden fox boots , I have these in black , there actually pretty decent boots , I wanted black redwing moctoes but didn’t want to spend 3-4 hundred on them LoL, so I went with these , there good casual boots but wouldn’t use them for work , I do own several pairs of redwing heritage boots and PNW boots , so from a guy that owns real boots , these aren’t too bad for $100 bucks , I would recommend them
I did the same. I have about 30 pairs of boots and am lucky to wear each pair once a month. I love the look of the black Red Wing moc toe but couldn't justify paying that price for a boot that I'm going to wear 12 times per year. I had a hole in my collection of a black toe moc, so went with a black pair of Golden Fox's. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of these and get the look that I want at decent quality and a low price.
Got their wellington boots several years ago. All together weren't bad. Plastic welt sucked, but it never cracked. Lasted 2 years before I swapped it out, but I could wear it another year. Comfortable from the start and the leather was nice compared to what I was expecting.
aside from the liner and lining foam being a bit trash, it's super surprising to see these excel past Portland in some of the more arguably "crucial" areas for the same price.
Thanks for another great review. I know that we're already halfway through Moctober, but can we squeeze in one more review? The Russell Moccasin Company makes a boot called the Backcountry I'd love to see reviewed. Thanks much!

I've only worn my Jim Greens Razorbacks for a few days, but I am blown away how nice they are for only $189!
Iv been wearing my razor backs for 3 years. Amazing.
@@YukiTheGremlin how good is the wedge, slip-resistance wise?
stop telling people about jim green!
Actually impressed. For a casual home improvement work boot or fashion wear they're a steal. Though a shank, even a fiberglass one, would be welcomed.
If you want all production shipped to east Asia yeah
They have modules with shanks and leather welts. They also have a made in America line
If you're a consumer who hasn't figured out 'you get what you pay for' yet, that's not the problem of the manufacturer.
goodyearwelt under $100 is still something remarkable
Most of their work boots are made in china. But their american heritage boots are made here in ontario, california. You should feature those to compare to the american brands. For 199.99
Nice review. The crumbling foam would be a dealbreaker for me. Yesterday I got Thorogood’s for $200 on Amazon.
My old Caterpiller boots feel like they're full of barley with the old crumbled foam, but once I put them on I never feel it.
They could improve the boot by leaving out the lining & foam.
I own a pair of these and had them for a year the foam on mine is in better shape than this
40+ years ago I was hired by a Federal Government engineering agency, on day one they provided me safety equipment including a set of boots made by prison labor.
The standing desk sponsor seemed odd until you activated it. 10/10 product design honestly.
I’d love to see some Meindl, Hanwag, Lowa etc. European prestige leather hiking shoes being cut in half & reviewed. Thanks for awesome content!
For that to have a goodyear welt, you begin to ask why other brands can't
you guys should do a full rebuild of these boots
I understood it to be describing the traditional moccasin construction which inspires the look of the modern boot.
You need to remember that the GF boot is less expensive than a tennis shoe and more comfortable!
.
these are way nicer than a lot of boots that are $50 more, and they’ve nailed the proportions. i wouldn’t buy them but i’m very impressed
I was curious about golden fox. I was looking at their boondocker because the spec sheet looked good and they're the same price as these. Interesting to see that they're actually worth the $100 and not crap like I was expecting for the price
I want a boondocker video, too.
I have the Boondocker. Impressed by everything but the toe box is narrow.
I’m actually impressed and if I ever need a cheap work boot to get started on a new job that would be my choice
i had this exact boot for a few years, love it, one of my favorite boots. zero complaints. i bought for fashion and i dont wear them that often.
Been a while since I saw the vid. Caught this one because I want to try moc toes without breaking the bank.
Videos have improved markedly. Nice diagrams, nice highlighting of material on screen, no words wasted I'd say. Great improvements man, loved this video.
The thing is also. Who do you want to support with your money. Sometimes times are tough but when I can I avoid Amazon and the alike as much as I can.
This is better than most sneakers by the major brands that cost 150 to 250.
I bought these for casual in black and then bought the Brown round toe work boots from GF. I wore the brown ones for about 14 months or more to work after they died I just started to work in the black moc toes. Good boots for construction not real heavy duty but tough enough for electric work and priced fair. Great videos very detailed .
I was not looking for a new boots but for $99 w good reviews. Take my money.
if they just made these unlined which you think would save money they would actually be pretty alright
They do. Go to there web sight
I have a paid of these and use them moderately... no complaints. They're comfy enough, look much better than they have a right to, and have lasted me a good while (again, I don't use these every day).
I went to the Red Wing museum in Red Wing, Mn Tuesday. They have an outlet store in the basement. I bought a rough out mix toe boot for $119.
What's the name of the company
I wear a pair of these everyday for the last 1.5 years, no issues so far.
I have a pair of these, but they are seconds. On my feet right now. Been wearing them for five years this December. Great for walking. Very comfortable. Some significant wear on the soles, but overall, at 20 bucks per year worn, hard to beat.
I’d love to see some videos on hunting/backpacking/mountaineering boots. Zamberlan, Crispi, Hoffman, Scarpa and so on.
There’s a little known brand from Spain made in Majorca since 1940. Bestard.
Great video!
I seem to recall that the same brand made the only budget shoe to place well in last year's thunderdome.
Golden fox has a Made in USA model of moc toes. Food for thought
Using the Bezos head from the South Park episode would have been epic in the thumbnail!
This shit is so entertaining. I started to love boots just because of your videos. I will keep liking your videos broski
Your videos are always entertaining and informative, just wanted to say thanks for keeping us poor folks in mind.
I have these exact boots, and honestly I really like them. Not too bad to break in, and very comfortable. Price was a bonus
I got the steel-toe variant and gotta say Golden Fox is worth every penny, especially since I got them for $75
I personally own two pairs of golden fox boots , I have these in black , there actually pretty decent boots , I wanted black redwing moctoes but didn’t want to spend 3-4 hundred on them LoL, so I went with these , there good casual boots but wouldn’t use them for work , I do own several pairs of redwing heritage boots and PNW boots , so from a guy that owns real boots , these aren’t too bad for $100 bucks , I would recommend them
I did the same.
On fiberboard insoles, sewing the gemming to the insole is common. My Irish setters had it.
aside from the liner and lining foam being a bit trash, it's super surprising to see these excel past Portland in some of the more arguably "crucial" areas for the same price.
A few brand of boots that is under 100 is silver bull boots and even patron boots.
I actually had a pair of these in steel toe. They were good, but I got them for casual wear. Only wore them a few times then gave them to my brother.
Been waiting for this review for a long time. Thank you.
My very first boots were these gold fox back when they were $70 like 5 years ago and they’re still around 😊😊
I found Golden fox 6 months ago and now have 4 sets of their boots , Also have their American made version
Weston can you PLEASE cut an allen edmonds higgins mill in half??? Can’t believe you haven’t done one yet!!
Interesting. Id like to see more reviews of Golden Fox boots.
But I'd really really like to see a review of the Georgia Boot 6" waterproof logger.
I have the chukka with pig skin lining and I'm impressed.
Wow. I almost bought these boots when before Thorogood went on sale. Very cool. Thanks!
Thanks for another great review. I know that we're already halfway through Moctober, but can we squeeze in one more review? The Russell Moccasin Company makes a boot called the Backcountry I'd love to see reviewed. Thanks much!
