    this was really helpful!! I am already struggling with my organic chemistry courses. I could solve this example correctly though which gave me a boost of motivation. your explanation also made it so clear. THANK YOU SO MUCH

    I have a question regarding resonant structures: When we move the electrons from the pi bond to the carbon, it is the carbon that carries a negative charge, not the oxygen, as I heard in the video... right?

    When you do the first resonance structure for C, why do you move the electrons/lone pair to the corner of the carbon. Is it still considered part of the oxygen?

      It is delocalized lone pair can be used to draw the arrow to make resonance structure. You may want to review types of arrow pushing for resonance and mechanism purposes. I have a video posted on types of arrow pushing in the playlist. That might clear the doubt.

    is the order is C>D>A>B?

    • @visuallearners1832
      @visuallearners1832  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes as conj base of A is better solvated then Conj base of B. Also inductive effect makes B weaker acid.

    I see in some other post, they explained by hydrogen bonding in molecule
    I mean H(C) will create pentagon with O of H(D) and H(D) will create also pentagon with O of H(C).
    How do you think about it?

    • @visuallearners1832
      @visuallearners1832  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. It is possible for them to make H- bonds as long as they can make 5 or/and 6 membered rings. However, H-bond will not contribute to the acidity that much as ARIO effect affect acidity most. As an example, methanol makes intermolecular Hbonds and so can phenol. But phenol pka is about 10 compare to methanol (about 16) due to stable phenoxide ion owing to resonance.

    Which is more acidic in A and B?

    • @visuallearners1832
      @visuallearners1832  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It will be A. A is primary so less inductive effect and it’s conjugate base would be better solvated (making it more stable) due to less hindrance.
