Awesome video Steve! Keep up the great work 👍 It’s reassuring to hear that galvanized steel walls are still an excellent choice, regardless of what big box pool stores are telling clients about how resin is a much better choice because it does not rust.
I have an existing vinyl pool… I’m going to replace the liner and am interested in replacing the concrete pool decking. Should this be done before the new liner goes in?? I know I want to replace the decking eventually just wanted to know if it needs to be part of the liner replacement. Great videos!! Thanks!
for pool bases, what if you put sand already but wanted to do vermiculite? can you just compact the sand and apply 1-2 inch of vermiculite. Or i've seen sand hardener systems, or i've seen foam board for above ground
Yes. I know he didn’t answer, but I build pools in CT. We call it a skim coat, I wouldn’t put 2 inches on, well I suppose you could but you’d have to re measure the liner and get a new one. The way I work with sand to re troll it, I lightly wet it, get it damp, then troll it smooth. Putting the verm on would be a much better option but it’s expensive ! Good luck :)
Great news to hear!! Our family just bought a steel wall pool. I really respect your opinion and experience. I know this is off topic but, can you possibly do a video on Flowtrons? We had one in our above ground. Was going to use it in our inground next year , but a friend said it will corrode my heater core. Is there any truth to that? Or is it the same thing as an sacrificial anodes? P.S., nice guitar!! Laravee?
not a carcinogen, there were two vermiculite mines that supplied house insulation that also contained asbestos. the companies knew this, and just didn’t care. this is why people say you need to get it tested for asbestos but the vermiculite is fine. and those mines aren’t used anymore.

If I have a galvanized steel kit, would it be wise to stay away from salt water and just stay with traditional chlorine pool?
It's fine to have salt with a steel kit for a vinyl pool. It is not okay to allow the pool to leak long term.
Hi Steve why are Concrete pools the better than polymer or steel ??

Isn't vermiculite a carcinogen? Maybe not something a DIYer should be using, I guess depending on how it's applied?
It is my understanding that vermiculite insulation in houses was a carcinogen, but horticultural grade vermiculite is just a lightweight mineral.
