Perspective and proximity. The view from the land showing the expanse of the ocean, the depth, breadth and power of the waves working 24/7 against something as static and permeable as dirt, stones and sand only reminds me of my Dad's belief that water, in all it's various forms, is the most powerful element of all. Time will tell. :)

One ought not to build anything near the edge of a cliff composed of soft material, and the ocean washing up against it.

I'm just watching this video for the first time, i used to live in California, born and raised actually, the coast has been eroding for as long as i can remember. The erosion didn't just start simiprogames, its been going on for years. There is another video where it shows what the coast looked like in 1997 along that same apartment complex, it still had 50 yards of terrain off the back of them. our ocean is slowly rising due to polar icecaps melting.

I spent 22 years watching a house on a Palisade at Pacific Coast Highway and Chautauqua Blvd in Santa Monica, CA. It started with a half acre back yard. When I saw it last in 1994, the entire back yard was gone and I could see the underside of the patio concrete slab. Every year it rained, and every year the palisade washed away. Several years later I watched the house finally crash down the 60-70 foot embankment to the bottom of the slope. I learned that the owner was allowed to build, knowing that in 30 to 40 years erosion would destroy his house.

Google Earth history shows that in March 2015 the building intact. The back of the house was about 22 ft from the cliff edge. April 2016 it's shown as burned. The cliff has eroded up to the very back of the house. Sure looks suspicious. Couldn't sell the house because of the erosion. Might have burned to collect insurance. I'm sure that was considered.

First, it really should be exceptional ignorant, and on the sandy shore build a house. Secondly, it is a state that allows to the ground, which is not a building, any kind of building facility protected. Third themselves are to blame for all this allowed.
I remember that the communist government in Yugoslavia, middle of the last century, made a complete geological map of Yugoslavia and no one, no way, he could not raise no temporary obejakat in a place where it is not allowed.

Jason Wilson Of course it was not close to the edge. But do not know how fast performances erosion? It is easy to calculate when they will be vulnerable and buildings and residents themselves. In particular, the access should stabilize the coast, there tetrapod, any concrete framework and shirts, there may be some solutions and suspensions, or do not allow the construction.

Doubt it was on purpose. The section that fell there was VERY sudden, like a good 12 feet just dropped off out of nowhere. I live in the area.
