In this compilation you will see the appearance of a ballast train, a steel coils train, the Shosholoza Meyl passenger train with vintage 6E1 locomotives and half a dozen Class 35 diesel locomotives stringed together to move a serious heavy load of concrete rail sleepers to the Saldanha-Sishen line. Hi Ken, thanks for the view! I live in the northern suburbs of Cape Town, my home is about 200 meters from the mainline, I can hear trains passing by, but have no line of sight from my home. Many lines in South Africa are electrified, This one from Cape Town is electrified all the way to Johannesburg, 1600km distant. Many branch lines use diesel traction because these are non-electrified.
