      i don't think they're telling you what to do, though? They're giving you information so that you'd be better informed about what to expect with incoming heat waves. If I was suffering health issues, I'd appreciate prior warning.

      @@samuelstevens248 It may not have topped 40c but it was hot for months.There were standpipes in the street and companies like the one I worked for changed their working hours so that we weren’t working at the hottest point of the day.
      Yes we had some snowy winters, 1963 is one that springs to mind, only beaten by the one in 47, but the point is if we had another summer like 76 now, everybody would be shouting climate change, or for that matter a winter like 63 would bring the same claims.
      I do not deny that the winter climate has been less severe in recent years but I see that as the natural evolution of the planet and certainly not something caused by me driving my petrol car for example.
      We live in a time now where nobody is expected to look out for themselves but has to be guided by the nose by the government and/ or the media, its why the government came up with the disaster that was the lockdown.
      That’s something else that we have not seen before even though we have had previous pandemics, Hong Kong flu in 1968 springs to mind.

      People go to Spain every year chasing the sun, but the weather report now is more like Armageddon than a nod that we can have a barbecue and get the shorts out.

    • @samuelstevens248
      @samuelstevens248 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @whatsgoingon4815 does it matter? Just ignore it. It's actually for emergency services rather than the public if you actually understand what an alert is. Warning is public, and alert is services. I don't see the problem, America has been doing this for decades, and it is relevant to the average weather for each individual region. If it's beyond average, then it makes sense. The average uk temperature right now is 18c, so 30c is way beyond what it should be in this country due to its geographical location. Also, a lot of people tend to drink all day when it's hot and sunny, and guess where they end up?! A&E! "Oh, because I don't feel well." So the emergency services will end up overstretched due to alcohol poisoning, sun strokes, and heat exhaustion because a lot of people can not act in moderation.. That's why people need guidance from the government, because people are unable to look after themselves. (I'm not including everyone). May I add looking after our own attitude in this country is the reason why we are in such a sorry state right now and the last 7 years.

      As do we in Cyprus, but what people fail to understand is that British houses are built to pretty much ABSORB heat if not just contain it, and it is NOT necessary to continue building houses that way when our Summers in the UK are now waaay hotter and our Winters aren't as cold. Some people can be affected heavily by heat and humidity when there isn't a proper source of air conditioning and the like. It's not about "Ooohhh it's always this hot here where I live" and blah blah about other countries, the PROBLEM is that the UK fails to admit that we have extremely "hot" summers now compared to 10-20 years ago, and they don't do anything to actually deal with it, they keep shoving houses with over-the-top insulation that isn't needed and just ends up being more of a fire hazard than a "protection" from cold weather.
      It's once again, a housing issue, like everything else in the UK; housing is the MAJOR cause of these problems, not enough housing, and too MANY people to house.

So if someone wearing a full length winter coat colapses from heatstroke in the street the Met office has protected themselves from getting sued by his persons relatives because they issued a heat, or as it should be known “slightly warmer than of late” warning.

    The bit I resent is the implication that the elderly and vulnerable are too thick to work it out for themselves. I know a 90 year old who copes with extremes of heat and cold, rain, snow and ice- staying in or going out, putting on or taking off clothes, having a drink if he's thirsty, sitting in the shade.. But then he's old enough to remember when that was normal behaviour.

    As a pom, back in ol’blighty. I loved it when Christmas temps hit 45º with a cool sea breeze, low humidity. What am I still doing here….? 30º no ice thanks!

    It's only a heat alert. Just ignore it if you don't like it. Why have a meltdown just because the Met Office issues some guidance? Get a grip.

    Wow!!!!! I’m in Norwich. And extreme heat can also have a detrimental effect on people who are taking some types of SSRI anti-depressant. They can become dehydrated very quickly. I don’t know why Julia is getting so lathered about it. It’s a warning for vulnerable people that’s all.
    I hope we get lots of thunder storms with the heat.

    I love this channel. However, the elderly don't always know, many are forgetful. A warning just reminds them. It's not for us, it's for those elderly who ARE vulnerable.

    • @_bav
      @_bav ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Seems to me that heat alerts (which, by their very nature, are issued in advance) would be of very little use to an elderly person with memory problems. A much better approach (and one that doesn't require a publicly-funded organisation to waste tax-payers' money) is for neighbours, relatives and friends - none of whom need alerts - to look out for the elderly and vulnerable in society.

    • @LittleLances
      @LittleLances ปีที่แล้ว

      @paul d true that does help, but I work with dementia patients. They usually remember or respond to media better that conversation. Seeing a warning in a newspaper can remind them throughout the day. Someone telling they means yes they can forget. Some people don't have people about them all the time, but a newspaper is a constant reminder, or news weather reports are constant. In my job I've seen this work and have actually had dementia patients telling me how hot it's going to be because they saw a paper or the TV. It does work

  • @2ndlieutenantcaptian

    So why don't they state this warning is for the 1 percent ..the rest can go and enjoy the weather ....
    And increase the CO2 output and then offset it by paying huge Carbon taxes on everything !...one way or another they will make us pay for enjoying ourselves
