- Large Thai supermarket chain Big C has just opened in Vientiane Laos! So with Pii Mai (Lao New Year) coming up this weekend I thought it a good opportunity to get in there and see what it's like. Need to buy outfits for the New year celebrations.. SO LETS GO!

Big C here in Thailand, depends on the size of the store however just a supermarket with a little bit of clothes, white goods and bits and pieces. Generally they are all the same format but some have a slightly large range if the footprint is larger. Fully owned by Berli Jucker Thailand. Was once owner by Casino the French super market guys.
Mina’s English is really coming along. It’s amazing how fast she has caught on. What a little sweetheart she is !

The Big C store is just like a Walmart here in the states, a little bit of this and a little of that (food, clothing etc. ) but big. Harriet and I love to support local vendors when possible.

Judging by your 2019 memories a lot seems to have changed since we celebrated PI MAI there in 2012
BIG C in Thailand has pretty much everything plus seasonal, normally if they dont have something the smaller shops around in the same area will.
My son was a civil engineer on the Big C project.
Originally the French company 'Carrefour', who sold out their operation in Thailand and which now operates as BigC, headquartered in Bangkok. So I'm guessing the Laos operation is part of the Thai company.
Sent for Mina hope you can help her find something. The store reminds me of Walmart. Love your shirt and little Mina's. Stay safe healthy and don't get to wet. Todd Neenee and little Mina.

It's great you're teaching the importance of seat belt with her. Safety is #1 wherever you're driving. I see from TH-cam a lot of people living in Laos doesn't wear seat belts, especially with the children. Education is key to educate people there to understand how important seat belts are, that it saves lives. Love how she is progressing so well!!

But in Thailand there is more.

I was just saying to my wife how amazing Mina’s English was getting ❤ reminds me of my son at 8 years old coming to England and within 3 months he understood nearly everything and within 6 months he could talk to everyone fluently 😮 unbelievable how kids pick up languages.

Big Cs in Thailand vary dramatically. I’ve been in dozens of Big Cs all throughout Thailand. Some stores are massive and others are not as large. I’ve been in some that have everything from auto accessories, furniture, bakeries, pretty much everything you can think of and others, like the one you just got, with limited items. Some stores have a vast variety of things in all the categories and others that have a very small variety. Really depends on the province and even cities within the provinces where they’re located.

BigC in Thailand from what i know and have seen much bigger and heaps more stuff household auto etc
Lots of the big stores don’t carry everything in the store anymore they want you to join their website and order stuff online.
New shopping mall next will be the high rise condos.
big C need more space which is not available in the city centre. same as high rise
Was in Bib C in Roiet thailand last week. food section is very good. clothing is a bit daggy.
When you show maps of where you are can you keep them up for 3x longer? They flash up only briefly.

Big C, Lotus in Thailand are pretty much the same and just large supermarkets. They are most often found in malls with department type stores like Central and Robinsons. You're probably thinking of these department stores in the malls.😅
Ah ok. Yeah, the name Robinson's does ring a bell. You're right.. that's probably where I'm thinking of 👍
Used to love going Big C and Lotus in Thailand. Great centers with just about everything you wanted in limited form. Songkhran was a blow out heaps of clothes and water paraphenalia. That center there was nowhere near Thai ones. Bushyyboy Oz.

I went there on Saturday, food hall was mobbed, supermarket was full of sightseeing locals who weren't buying anything. It was expensive.
That's the same story I've been hearing from many. I'll stick to Dmart I think mate. You go there?
@@NowinLao No, we tend to go to Kokkok , went over on Saturday and it was not busy, everyone was at the Big C opening. 👍🏻
We go there because I like saying it, without getting belted by the wife and daughter. 🤣

You are right Todd .. here in Thailand they are bigger and better and do have all the things you thought were there .. that is a poor example of Big C Super Store compared to here.

Hi Todd and the star of the vlog Mina. That Big C was a bit of a disappointment. Here in Khon Kaen, the main Big C is a bit bigger than yours and has a greater selection of stuff. It sells white goods, some cheap beds and furniture, toys, including a big selection of water guns, stationery, bicycles, car accessories, games, kitchen goods, far more clothes, especially Songkran shirts in all sizes at the moment, children's clothes, baby clothes, baby section, a pharmacy and a great deal of food. There is another smaller Big C which does not have quite the same range but even that one has more than the Vientiane one! Mina is a little gem, I loved it when she said not to video her when she is not wearing a seat belt! She is quite right and has more common sense than you 🤣😂 Anyway, I am glad that Neenee's foot is improving and she is wise to be cautious until it is fully healed, still praying for a complete recovery for her. Mina certainly looked the part in her Pi Mai outfit, and I am sure that she will have a whale of a time splashing and being soaked. She is such a water baby. Personally as an old fart, I stay well out of it ever since someone threw a bucket of water over me on my motorcycle, on a main road, causing me to come off and get some nasty grazes, some 2 days before the Festival started. This was an adult, not a child and a motorist who witnessed it chased after the guy and gave him a good talking to. This was about 4 years ago and since then I have avoided Songkran like the plague! It is however great for youngsters, but sadly the true meaning of the festival seems to have been lost in a haze of drunken revelry and an increasing number of sexual assaults on young women. It is also a good way of keeping cool with temperatures in the low 40s this week. Have a great Laos New Year and enjoy the fun. God bless you and the family always 😀❤🙏
Now that's the type of Big C I was envisioning.. Very disappointed in the one we got.
Sorry to hear about that accident mate.. some people are just plain dumb! I have always believed the festivities should be restricted to certain areas and water bombing definitely not directed at motorists. People on bikes and in cars at the festival who are participating, fine, but not bloody people going about their daily lives. I love to get amongst the water fights and play, but they have just taken too far. Boundary's need to be set!

Big C not so much I believe Lotus is better in their range of products but there are a lot of more specialized little side stores at the Big C (supermarkets) which I believe they are certainly not supermarkets , well at least not where we reside, personally I believe both Lotus's and Big C are too expensive
