Great job on this. Really good.
🙏🙏
I really liked the Blue and the Celestion Gold!
Excellent Choice. I've got a P12N in mine and I'm absolutely happy with it!
That’s a Jensen right?
You can't go wrong with the Weber 12A125A. $155.00 as of 10-29-23.
Thanks a lot
In my 5e3 clone I built, I used the WGS G12Q, a 20W speaker, really cheap and sounds excellent, about the quarter of the price of a Celestion blue. It is also relatively inefficient speaker at 96dB, but the 5e3 is still loud enough to need attenuating at home when you crank things up. No doubt about it that the Celestion blue sounds amazing, but they are so expensive.....
I love WGS speakers
Alnico blue celestion was my favorite but I prefer a Jensen P12Q for tweed tones.
Thanks
Suprisingly enough I liked the ceramic jensen c12n the most. Love your channel, keep pushing!
Thanks a lot
For recording, I think I'd prefer a P12R or P12Q, but the bright punchy C12N might better live. The ET65 is very close to the C12N, having just a slightly higher freq upper-mid peak in the 2.4kHz range vs 2khz. Otherwise, it's virtually the same, even though the ET65 has the wide cloth dust cover. I guess that would make it more gritty British.
Creamback & Blue were my favorite.
🤘🏻
Great way to show (hear) the comparison very insightful
Thankd
I listened closely with my ears and not my eyes. 1. blue 2. p12n. Then the two ceramics 3. Warehouse et65 4. Creamback. The only one that was a complete no go was the c12n, which I think is the stock speaker for my '64 HW.
I agree
@@BuddaGuedesjust watched your video on the DRRI and Alessandro vs Jensen. Have you tried any of these speakers in the Deluxe Reverb?
Really liked the creamback in this test.
I liked it a lot!!!
Gold was ok too but yeah Blue is the best
Love the blue
I bought the Mojotone Tweed Deluxe kit and put an Alnico Blue in it. I came to the same conclusion. I love it. Sounds great. Great video, thanks.
Try a Gold... the extra power handling capability comes in handy if you crank things. Blue's are pretty easy to blow in a driven 5E3.
Ok thanks for the tip
@@BuddaGuedes If you'd like to hear the Warehouse G12A, search on the NEED for TWEED and you'll find a demo of a 5E3 I built. BTW - Yours is sounding great!
I use one of these and this thing is loaded with possibilities for tone. GREAT amp
It’s just incredible what you can do with a great amp
I thought the gold would be in that top 4. Especially after the back to back clip.
I've had a mojo kit (that I've built) since '20. And I have been running the p12n in that but always felt it wasn't the perfect match. And like many, I'm on TH-cam doing research. Now I love the blue, and it has always been in contention, but I'm here to tell you the perfect/vintage correct speaker does exist. The RecPro a12q. Just got it this weekend, and it blew my mind! It is of the utmost importance that anyone who owns the 5e3, needs this speaker.
I’m fine with the blue alnico. It’s getting better Every time.
@@BuddaGuedes I bet! I'm planning on getting the blue for my ac15.
preferred the P12N jensen or the blackbird.. They have a slight dip in the midrange that matches well with the flat frequency response of the 5e3 circuit.. With most celestions the midrange is a bit barky and tubby in the 5e3..
I’m loving the blue. It’s one of my favorite amps
I recently picked up a similar amp and love the Blue in mine. Between the amp and speaker, it’s super dynamic. Some folks thing the tweed is kind of a one trick pony but there’s a ton of great sounds in there.
It’s becoming one of my favorite amps. It’s so versatile if you use your guitar’s volume
the creamback was very interesting. sounded gooood. would like to hear that some more. well, cool vid. thanks.
Thanks a lot
Blue for sure! I have the stock fender speaker in my 2016 fender custom 5e3 and love that one as well. I go back in forth with them. ~cheers
Thanks
Yep the Blue Budda. Got one in my Deluxe and use older celestion alnicos in my other amps/cabs also. Have tried many speakers over the years and the alnicos comes out on top each time. Got an old '54 74 1772 in my Princeton, just great!! Thanks for this A/B.
🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
I’m not a huge Celestion guy personally, I prefer Eminence. If I’m playing Steel tho it’s JBL. Also, I prefer 15’s and 18’s to 12’s.
Cool
Jensen P12N or P12Q are obvious choices but there’s something about a good Celestion that sounds amazing inside in old Fender.
I love the blue on this
The Blue Alnico is great! I put in my Supro Saturn (modifications required).
That’s a great idea
It sounds great at lower volumes and fucking amazing at higher volumes.
I had to cut out part if the chassis with an angle grinder to make the speaker fit though...
I also liked the Celestion Blue the most.
Great sounding amp and great speaker choice!
It’s incredible
Great comparison!
Thanks a lot
I have a blue in mine you made the right choice
I’m sure I have. I love it every
The blue was the best
Thanks. It was the one I picked up
Thanks for that video buddy 😊
🤘🏻
I've been putting a Warehouse G12A in the Deluxe clones I build, they're pretty special too if you like the Alnico thing.
Thanks for the tip
The Jensen P12N for me.
I also loved it but ended up getting the blue!!’
I use a Celestion Ruby in mine, love it!
That should be great!! I’m using the blue and I love it
Would have been nice to hear all of the speakers clean.
Thanks for all of your videos.
This amp doesn’t get really clean
for me it was down to the blue alnico and the p12n, and i think i liked the jensen slightly more! Good to know tho that alnicos sound better than ceramic on tweed deluxes!
I kept the blue
Blue !
Me too
SUPER helpful video! I have a blue already in my 5E3. I dig it a lot. Although I was surprised how good that Warehouse Speaker ET65 was. Wow. I will say I can see how the Jensen is a lot more authentic to the tweed sound but I feel like the highs on the Jensen are too hissy. The Celestions all seems to smooth that out. Its that British sound I guess.
I love mine
The WGS ET 65 is the fool proof go to for any lower wattage amp; the choice for the Blues Jr. replacement, for example.Maybe not" the best", or the most character, but also not going to expose any innate weaknesses.
In that regard, it is similar to a Greenback.
Surprised at how well the c12n sounded
🤘🏻🤘🏻
I recently just acquired a 5E3 clone that came with a Weber 12A125 and it’s but I’m testing a G12M Greenback in it today.
Let me know how it turned out
hi. if you really want to take your tweed to the next level put some vintage glass in it.
originally it had rca tubes in the late 50's but ive retubed an original 1959 tweed deluxe with old mullards and it sounded amazing. for v1 (preamp) i recommend either longplates (mc1,f91,f92) or i61. for v2 which is the pi a high gain balanced i63.
enjoy!
Thanks for the tip
I use a celestion alnico cream in one of my 5e3. I built a second 5e3 using a bigger cabinet from a hot rod deluxe and put in a 12” celestion greenback and 10” celestion alnico gold speaker. That one growls when put in an overdrive with no pedals.
It’s a beast of an amp!!!
Agree with your selection. The blue sounded great. Have you ever tried the Eminence Allesandro gasc64.? I love in my blues junior.
I haven’t but I’ve hear a lot about it
Celestion greenback G25C is pretty good too. The Celestion Blue is good too
Thanks a lot for your suggestion
1.- Celestion blue.
2.- Et65
3.- Celestion gold
I built the same kit and celestion blue makes the amp come alive. Even through my cellphone speakers your amp sounds great.. 👍
That’s my choice too
I own the 59 original with its original jensen p12r and reissue equipped with blue. I have to say although the blue sounds amazing, the original sounds out of this world and more fenderish.
I imagine. But the original is not available now!!!
The Celestion Blue sounded very good!
I love it
@@BuddaGuedes fender the Edge signature deluxe tweed comes with an alnico blue speaker.
I have a 5E3 Clone made by a reputable builder. It came with an Alnico Gold. It sounded great. I would not complain if I had to live with it the rest of my life. I wanted to try an original speaker from the 50's that actually came in these amps. I bought a real vintage Jensen P12R that had been professionally re-coned. Right away I could tell it sounded more vintage. Better? That would be a matter of taste. Over the last couple of weeks as the cone is breaking in, it is really warming up and sounding amazing. I like it better, yet, I will not be getting rid of the Gold Alnico. It's nice to be able to change from one beautiful tone to another in a few minutes. I can change speakers in a few minutes even having to solder the wires on the speaker. I can change them without removing the chassis from the cab. I just have to pull one tube. I have seen many videos like this one where people love the Blue Alnico and am going to get one of those to add to the stable.
I'm sure you know this, but speakers need a good long break in before they can be judged. It looked like you were testing a lot of speakers fresh out of the box new. The only way to really judge a speaker is after that cone is loosened up. This has been the case with every new speaker I have bought so far. I have an Alnico Cream in another cab for a different amp that really came alive after about month. I didn't even like it at first. I have a 2x12 with a Chinese V30 that was shrill from the beginning and never warmed up. That speaker is coming out. The other speaker is a Ceramic Creamback 65 I think. The same with it. I little harsh in the highs when new, but once it broke in, it sounds a lot better. I also have UK made Green Back. I was chasing clean tones when I bought that, and I didn't like it. Now I would like to try it again. The lower wattage speakers that break up early, like my P12R in these lower wattage 5E3 amps add something special to the tone. The real Vintage P12Q's seemed to be a lot of peoples favorites also. It is all subjective. I like most of them but really love a few. What kind of tone you are chasing makes a difference too. The 5E3 is my favorite amp by far bedroom volume noodling around. Which is all I really do. That smooth warm breakup on the edge with the glassy bell like highs is addicting shit.
I actually find it really loud, but it’s one of my favorite amps for love jam
@@BuddaGuedes I like it loud too. But there is a volume control. lol . I want to get a Fryette PS100. So I can get the saturation at lower volumes. Have you tried those yet?
No I haven’t
Love the Blue, in my Vox AC15C1X and AC4C1-12, but with it only being 15W, I'd be worried about blowing it up with a 22W Deluxe. Maybe I would choose the Gold for this application?
This amp is 12 watts not 22
@@BuddaGuedes ah! Interesting
Eh! Eh!
I agree that the blue sounded the best. But they all sounded good. I don't think I'll change the speaker in my 5e3 kit amp (Tube Depot, with Jensen MOD speaker). At least to my ear over the interwebs, the slight differences don't justify putting a new speaker in my amp. Perhaps in the room there is a bigger difference, but 5e3 tweeds seem to sound good no matter the speaker.
To me was a huge difference
very nice comparison man! i really liked the jensen c12n even if on my 5e3 i use a 2x12 with g12h30 heritage , but my 5e3 ( handbuilt by myself too) is a bit different than the original , preamp is a bit more like a 6g3 , so i found those speakers were the best to be used with my other amps too ,
in the original 5e3 i find jensen is the best for me , anyway great choice the alnico blue , it gives a nice brit character to the sound 👍🏻😉
I love this amp more and more everyday
@@BuddaGuedes it's very cool ! personally i was looking for a more gradual control on the volumes so i separated the channels and made the normal more like a marshall , very useful mods , i use a 12ax7 now in v1 , another mod is to add a grid stopper on the phase inverter , to prevent the strange distortion the phase inverrer has on high volumes, some people like it tho 🤘🏻 rock on man !
🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Through my headphones sounds like an EQ would give you all of them. Guess in real life it's different though
Very different!! It’s not just eq!! It’s the character, the feel, and the dynamics
blue alnico ok for balance and allows high volume and definition
eminence not so bad...
🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻
Do you remember if you matched the levels of the audio clips or if they were all roughly the same? Trying to get a bit more volume out of my amp
I matched the studios so it’s a fair comparison. The blue is loud!!!
Why did you not try a Jenson P12Q? On my own shootout between the Blue and the P12Q I prefer the P12Q. I also prefer the P10Q in my 57 Bassman LTD (another tweed amp) as well.
That wasn’t on my radar
I liked the gold the best. The blues are classic and are always a great sound but i like the midrange in the gold better
I love the blue
Blue
That’s my pick
I liked the Gold best - and it can handle the power of that amp. Gonna blow the Blue?
I’m not sure if it will but the blue is sounding incredible
Which creamback did u use ? 65w or 75w?
Very interesting vid!
65. Thanks
The Alnico Blue's are stupid expensive, even used, and are unlikely to ever get any less so due to demand, - which is high, because they are singular.
You might think that other Alnico Celestions, like the Gold or Ruby, should be similar, but they aren't much closer than ,say, a higher end ceramic.
The only real option as far as response and range would prob be the Jensen P12 Q , which has the early American Fender sound in all it's harshly semi round glory; it's a sound that most aren't familiar with that takes some accomodations, but it is unquestionably viable and legit. If you run two amps split, this sound is great with something more British and warm.
If you're used to ceramic prices, these will be shocking; in the States, anyway, you can find Weber copies of the P12 ( 12A125A) in 8 ohms for reasonable prices used, or you can still go direct to Weber.
I was recently looking for something to pair with a Vox AC 4 head, and was surprised that the Celestion Ruby was so different from the Blue, despite specs.
Not surprised that the Blue was the winner, here, but I think the Jensen is equally solid depending on your exact requirements .Worth a listen, anyway.
I’ve been really loving the blue
I have a 5E3 Clone with a Celestion Neo Creamback and I like it also makes the amp super light weight which is a plus but now I’m wondering about the Blue Alnico, but I’m worried about the lack of wattage, the amp is rated at 12 to 15 watts and the blue Alnico is 15 watts as well.. have you blown up yours yet? 😅 thanks
Not at all!! It’s just a magic speaker for this amp
I have my 5e3 with a Jensen P-12 Q, in theory is the original in this early amps, don´t you try with it?
I did and hated it
@@BuddaGuedes why ? For me is great, organic and the armonics are so good, very people use it in this amp, how do you hated it? :)
Alnico Blue!
For sure
Jensen blackbird or greenback
🤘🏻
I liked the blackbird it sounded different to the rest
🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
I'm a blackbird guy also
🙏🙏🙏
You should try out the BBE sonic stomp.
I’ll try to get my hands on one
@@BuddaGuedes you will appreciate it man… they say it’s like “lifting the blanket off your amp”. It’s basically an eq with low and high end controls, but the way it works is really neat. When your mids hit a certain threshold it will boost your highs a little bit and there’s always great clarity in the chords, they ring out nicely. It is analog as well, I use it toward the end of my chain in the effects loop and it’s always on 👍 also helps to buffer your signal if you have a lot of stuff in the chain
Great tip
Alnico Blue is probably the best guitar speaker ever made.
I don’t like it on everything but in this amp is perfect
@@BuddaGuedes You`re right... it dosen't fit on everything.
blue, p12n, et65
👌
in my 5e3 I have a C12n :)
🤘🏻🤘🏻
If you were chasing a less agressive sound I would have gone with the Eminence. The Albico Blue definitely has the most grit.
Thanks a lot
I want to hear a P12Q. The P12N is the SECOND best speaker though : )
🤛
Italian P12r and p12q are the ticket. Totally different to the p12 speakers with bigger magnets (I think you chose p12n here).
P12r is the original speaker.
Italian P12q is probably truer to the original P12r.
And they are much quieter than the blue. The amp is too loud already anyway. And you will find that the blue has too much mid range. I’ve been through so so so many speakers with this thing including the blue and I must say that the P 12 Q is probably the best modern Speaker you’re going to find. You will hear it and say yes that’s it!
I’ll check it out. But I’m loving the blue for the moment
@@BuddaGuedes mine came with a blue. It is in a box. Great speaker but not right for fender. Even tweed era. You’ll see. Italian Jensen should be cheap there. Let me know what you think. It will quiet the amp way down which is nice.
I liked the blue alnico and the cream back . They seemed to deliver a nice hard QUACK!
🙏🙏
Weber's Alnico 12A150 would have been a great choice. But the Creamback had the most character and body of this group. Gold was second best.
Thanks
Looks best: alnico gold, sounds best to me (as far as I can hear): creamback 😀
Thanks a lot
Are they all 8” speakers?
They are all 12”
jensen blackbird p12n sounded best in this recording to me ,they all sounded great ...
Thanks a lot
In this order:
P12N
Blue Alnico
ET65
Thanks for sharing
I have a cab with 2x12Pn's I use this configuration the most. It's like I touch the strings and the speakers react. Playing blues I'm not worried about trying to get the bottom any tighter than it is.
Great tip
10 ou 12 polegadas?
12”
Some years ago i had the fender ec tremolux amp ( think 5E3 / 57 deluxe amps ) with the celestion / rola G12H speaker , apperently eric clapton insisted on this speaker beeing used in this amp , and although it took awhile for the speaker to break in ( it sounded crappy in the beginning so i was already thinking like wtf ? ) it sounded like magic after a while , but me beeing a stupid a..hole , i sold the amp because i wanted more headroom ( wich is really stupid because if you want an amp with loads off headroom you should not buy an amp that is based on a 5E3 circuit , but then again , i was not aware off this fact at that time , silly me : ) , i still miss that amp , it sounded so f.cking great , aaaarghhh !!! So Budda , i hope you will not be as stupid as me and never sell this amp you have made yourself : ) Enjoy you're new amp !
I never sell! I usually only buy
Dude is I supply all will you build me a guitar power amp
I could do it
Creamback
🙏🙏
@BuddaGuedes I just ordered the George Alessandro Eminance sc59. It was expensive 300 after tax for my SE3 build. Haven't really heard the speaker with this amp but this Alessandro guy is some sort of legend amp builder and he helped design a 59 sounding tweed-esq speaker. So I took a gamble and ordered it. I hope it lives up to its price tag 🙏
Excruciatingly painful with the guitar out of tune
They all sound the same
No, they don’t
Monumental waste of time. All the speakers sound okay. The biggest difference is YOU !!!!!😮
Really!!!?!? It wasn’t a waste of my time
Ignore the idiots, the number ofpeople in the comments should show that a lot of people areinterested in finding the right speaker for their 5e3 amp .many thanks for your time and effort. @@BuddaGuedes
