They stuck out like sore thumbs I bet…looks normal now but probably freaky compared to the fashion of the day that will probably never return.. Much like Brian Setzer walking around Long Island with a pompadour and baggy suit coats in1978
Pure gold, especially Anton Fier and such a unique percussion powerhouse. I first saw The Feelies open for REM in 1986. They cleaned REM's clock: far tighter, fantastic songs (all Good Earth tunes if I remember correctly), and incredible attention to nailing the sonics just right.
I don't know about cleaning REM's clock, but to each his/hers/its own. The Good Earth, which was produced by that clock- cleaned REM guitarist Peter Buck was where The Feelies went for a more acoustic and less interesting pop sound. While you might disparage REM, both bands thought quite highly of each other.
Wish I could have been there. I was born in England in 1979 day after sid vicious died. I love all American bands from max's and cbgbs and I wish I could have seen thunders heartbreakers when they were firing on all cylinders, so many excellent musicians from all over the USA and nyc.
When they played this song for the first time in 30 something years in 2019, Glenn brought out a strat just for that song, then back to his typical Teles.
Yeah- if you look behind Bill, you can see Keith playing Bill's 335 for this song. Listen for the repeated rhythm figure he plays during Glenn's soloing.
That was incredible! (new to the band) It is so damn cool to see this happen live. Thank you
To this day, still one of the great rock bands in the world. Glenn Mercer & Bill Million look so young!
Wow wow wow. Love the 1980s Feelies, AND love the Crazy lineup.
And the 21st century Feelies of course!
Truly stunning, what a band, thanks for posting.
What strikes me is how they seem to dress and look more or less the same today. I like that timeless quality.

Thanks for posting this Paul!
Excellent!!!
LOVE
Glenn playing a Strat? I don’t think I’ve ever seen him play any other electric guitar but his Telecaster. Incredible footage!

He always played a Strat back then.
For when two drummers is still not enough!
Is that Anton Fier on the drumset on the right???
Yes.
Hit those drums Anton
Anton!!
Wow nice! Heavy percussion 1979
Who's on percussion? That's not Dave Weckerman
Charles Beasley
Anton Fier on the kit.
was there only four members then?
They were four, Keith the bass player is off camera and the second drummer is the guest percussionist.
