1985 - 1986 Ford F-150 5.0l (302 c.i) EFI Fuel Filter Help

I've been asked a few times about the fuel filter in a 1985-1986 F-150 with a 302 EFI V8 Questions about removing the bowl, how to get it off, what part numbers for the filter. I hope this helps explain it better.

I thought you were going to actually show us how to get that bowl off while you were under the truck. That would’ve been the most helpful thing in this video. Most people struggle to get this bowl off and even break it in the process.

Ferdinand, I can find those paper filters all day long but I've been trying to find that canister you show. Where did you get it and what's the part number please ????

Use a bit of greese on that O ring to hold it in place while you screw the cap back on. Otherwise that O ring has a nasty habit of coming out of its grove it supposed to set in as you screw the cap back on. Results are fuel leaking all over at startup. Whoever designed this mess should be made to change 10,000 of these for punishment. Make sure your fuel lines have no pressure left . Pull the relay to fuel pump and start engine . Run until engine stalls. If the engine has not been run for awhile, skip this step. Also as you break the seal on that cap, there will be some fuel leakage from the bowl (cap) the filter is setting in as it is full of fuel. Keep the bowl (cap) level as possible as you remove it to limit spillage. Keep rags handy. No smoking!

@@SebastianWoodard I just picked a 302 up the other month… diff leaks, trans pan leaks, god knows where all the oil is leaking from, oil pressure is shit over fucked, brake pedal nearly nonexistent to stop… but damn will she rev up lol. How much work have you had to do on yours?

@@GetTheFO not really any until recently. She's got 510,000 on her now. She was pretty leaky. I ended up blowing a head gasket so I just got the heads resurfaced. Now she's jumping spark timing

Hi I appreciate your video. I’m working on my 86 ford ranger and I keep replacing the large o-ring in the fuel filter reservoir and it keeps leaking after I put it back together. So I thought I would replace the whole housing like you did. Can you tell me the name and part # for the whole housing that you purchased?

You know your 1986 F150's ...been follow your channel for years since i bought my 1986 F150 XL...question...what would make one of these early eec-iv trucks run for ten / twenty minutes or so perfectly fine then cut off...be hard to start unless left to sit cool...symptoms are first tach goes crazy surging...then Transmission will downshift hard due to loss of engine power when not supplying throttle with gas pedal ( while cruising) bout the time your sayn... oh shit... finally a loss of idle speed to where ya gotta double pedal at red light to make it home to hold base rpm to keep motor from cutting out...thank you for your time n channel...

Did you ever solve the issue for your f150? Sounds like the issue mine is having but it's a 1987. Thinking it's either the fuel pump or the fuel selector gasket since it's a dual tank

I had a ford tech tell me to leave the filter out of the reservoir.

I too own a 86 302… haven’t even gotten to working on the tanks and fuel pumps yet. Gonna have to since the rear tank doesn’t work. If I find out I’ll find this comment and come back to it. If you happen to come across it… be a kind fellow and pass on the knowledge lol. Could help to check rockauto, they’ve usually got a ton of parts on there.
