  • Vocal Coach Ken Tamplin Reacts to Axl Rose / Guns N Roses - Paradise City
Vocal Coach Reaction To Axl Rose - Guns N Roses - Paradise City - Ken Tamplin
I remember when I first heard Guns n Roses.
It was on a local radio station in Los Angeles called KNAC Radio.
Tawn Mastrey, one of the DJs at the station had Introduced Paradise City and G n R.
It was ironic because a couple of weekends prior I was at a rock Magazine benefit concert in Hollywood at the Troubadour where many LA musicians including Slash, Tracii Gunns of LA Guns and others we're performing to a half empty House.
Axl had shown up to sing a couple songs as well.
It wasn't but a few weeks later that guns and roses went from playing half full very small Hollywood venues to blowing up arenas around the world.
I'm not trying to play the grandpa card here but I think it is noteworthy:
To be candid, there were many popular bands at this time. And Guns N Roses were in about the middle of the pack.
For example, GnR, Motley Crue, Poison, Jane's Addiction, Van Halen, Ratt, WASP, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Quiet Riot, (not to forget The Bangles, Circle Jerks (punk), Social Distortion (punk), The Blasters (Rockabilly), Los Lobos, The Dickies) and many many other bands.
It was an explosion of music.
Of all those bands, few snuck by the gatekeepers who set out to pasture most of these LA trendsetters.
Those bands of course were Van Halen, G n R, Motely Crue and Red Hot Chili Peppers.
So I thought it would be fun to do a reaction to Axl Rose / GnR being homies from my back yard in LA.
I hope you find this vocal coach reaction informative and even entertaining. :-)

I saw them open for the Stones at the Colosseum in the early 90's. I got a bit too relaxed so I got a real good look at the ground for a while. Then I remember coming alert to hear Axl singing this song. I look up to see Axl singing and doing those special Axl Rose dance steps across the stage wearing a pair of chaps and a studded cod piece.. He was pasty white, skinny and looking like a junky and he's dancing and jerking toward the front of the stage and all of a sudden he stops, turns around and his bare ass is out in the wind. I wasn't ready to see that no matter how relaxed I was. Man that put me off my feed for a while.

      @kcharbs 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

This is from Rolling Stone's top 100 Greatest Vocalists of All Time (Axl is number 1, of course!!). "Mariah Carey has been known to introduce her band by singing at the pitch of their instruments. However, on record, her vocal range isn't as extensive as that of Axl Rose. The Guns N' Roses vocalist has sung notes that span nearly six octaves, from F1 (in There Was a Time), in the second-lowest octave in scientific pitch notation, to B flat 6 (Ain't it Fun), five octaves above it. Rose has a lower baritone than Barry White, and can reach higher notes than Tina Turner and Beyoncé.
Carey, meanwhile, has managed to span the marginally smaller gap between F2 and G7 in tracks Sweetheart, in which her lowest note was recorded and Emotions, which saw her highest.
Prince comes in a close third, after reaching B6 on Daddy pop and the lows of E2 on Daddy Pop, and Aerosmith's Steven Tyler just beats James Brown to fourth place."

But also wow My Michelle and Sweet Child o’ Mine went so well together in the track listing.

Ken, quick question. Axl 2018 voice is obviously different. When singing high he's lost that raspy sound he used to have. If he is able to sing ACDC, why can't he use it more? Is he using a different technique? Many are bitching calling him Mickey Mouse but in old days if he took out that aspect, he'd sound the same when singing high. Can you explain the difference in voice or why he is unable to sound like early days? Know he's older, maybe you could make a vid explaining it? Thanks so much👍🏼🤗 (Not so short eh?)

Ok, Dude, you should find some live stuff, newer or Something from Chinese Democracy, song 'This I love' for range, or even Welcome to the jungle' for intro noise and 'na na na na na knees' - how to do it? This is Ok....!! AXL- All very different 'voices', deep talking voice, and how to -high - rasp, it's not like Gillan (high screaming head) like in song 'Yesterdays' or You Could Be Mine, to do some 90s.... I really think it's unique and I don't know, different .... Still not sure and that's why I said this :-o ...
