  • This american man Darrick told my friend about Davao city, he fruit capital of the Philippines. He said about this to my another friend and he told me. Both of them haven't been to the Philippines, they just heard it from Darrick. But they told me and that's how I came to the Philippines for the first time. It was 2011. Here's my interview with Darrick. We speak about life in the Philippines. And also in this video we're eating Marang and cutting pineapples in our garden.

We are all the same in this world. Russians, American, Germans, British, French, Asians, etc. We enjoy life. We are all people. We want to explore other cultures, food and sights. The Philippines is a perfect place to experience happy people, nature and cuisines. My American friend it's totally different there. People are hospitableand friendly.

Valentina, it is good that you set aside the seeds of MARANG FRUIT during eating. But, amazingly let the seeds of Marang fruit dried under the sun. Then, let the be fried in the pan without oil or water. Just plainly fried. During frying, you need to stir or mix always to avoid over cooked. Once, it cooked. You have to eat it. It is tasty. Similar to fried peanut. So delicious. Try it.

It's good to see both American and Russian talk with each other. They are not enemies as what I usually watch in the Hollywood movies. They are promoting Russian or USSR(KGB) as villains. But look at these Russians, they are such good people and they can live just like a natural Filipinos. I love Americans but I think now, I love Russians.

The reason why the people say Hey Joe because those american GI who are in the military this is how they called each other and then people hear it. and evrytime the pilipino see an american they'll say Hey Joe. People in the Phillipines before doesn't see much foreigners they think all of them are americans. Hey Joe was also started by the group of missionaries from Utah, US and did a very good contribution to the visayas island and mingled with all the people in their community. Thank you for sharing this Valentina. That was a good story how you came to Samal Island. I hope you had fun. Thank you for this guy from America.

The word joe is slang or informal for buddy, friend, fellow, or comrade. This also became an everyday word in some of the Northern part of Luzon where Americans were stationed. In Canada, buddy is normally used to address people you are not acquainted with in a friendly way.

FYI: GI Joe just means American soldier, it was coined during World war 2 when Americans came to free us from Japan.
So when we see caucasians , we refer to you as GI Joe.

Valentina come try to visit Kidapawan City every February as the celebrate Timpupu Festival. It’s a festive celebration for the abundance of fruits. It’s the fruit basket of the Philippines. Also Hey Joe is one of the old habit of Filipino to say Hello. Back in the days Americans are the white people who visit Philippines and they often called Joe. Filipinos had the impression that all white people are Americans.
