"borahae" is a term created by one of the members, V/Taehyung! it's a mix of "purple" and "love/i love you" in korean, translating to "i purple you." taehyung explained this as roughly "purple is the last color of the rainbow, meaning we'll love you forever and be with you till the end." so to sum it up, it's BTS' and ARMY's (the fans) way of telling each other i love you! i love your reactions by the way, i'm so glad you're enjoying them and their craft :)
Yep, borahae is the reason you get so many purple hearts in particular in your comments!

🥳💜it’s a promise💜a word made up by V of BTS🤣…BTS and army have a dictionary of our own🤣💜
hehe I dunno but BTS fills us with love and positivity and kindness to each other😌all the good stuff👍
and our official color to represent bts and army is 💜purple too💜if you see Purple Hearts in your comments it’s probably from an Army🤣
If you see✨apobangpo✨
It means army forever bts forever(made by JK of BTS)😂
and he said that because armys on the concert covered their lightsticks with something purple so it shined with purple light instead of regular white and it looked beautiful
How seriously BTS took rap (as well as how talented the rapline is) is why I had no choice but to become ARMY. After I heard HipHop lover, it was a done deal for me. I had never encountered anyone in kpop who was this genuine abt their love and appreciation for hiphop. No one who STUDIED the genre the way BTS did. As a black American I felt so proud to know hiphop had traveled the globe to inspire the rapline in the way they laid it out (lyrically) in this song.
Yoongi saying hiphop is his everything and if loving this culture is a sin he’d gladly die 100 times, just filled me with so much pride. Truly, I had no choice but to support BTS from the moment I heard this song.
Facts!!! It was this song and Born Singer for me🥰💜🥰💜🥰💜🥰
Beautifully said! 💜🇵🇭💜🇵🇭💜 the culture is such a gift to humanity….truly feeds the soul…
Yes, and they studied without knowing much English. Only RM is fluent in English. Yoongi and j-hope still struggle with English.
100% agree
They identified with hip-hop. They did not want to be stuck in a path that society (and older generations) expected them to follow. That life was not for them or even not in them, and they took risks and sacrificed with the high possibly of failure to pursue their dream and calling. They were tested by hardship, but they proved their character and remain who they are, good and humble, sincere people. Lot of celebs, especially those in the West, let their ego, pride, and/or greed change them. It makes you feel proud to support BTS.
@13:31 His own parents tried to force him into a life of "stability". They burned his lyric books and told him that he should study. Suga has said that he wasn't good in school so he persevered. He didn't give up, and we're glad that he didn't.
Damn that’s kinda fu€ked up 🤨. Glad he stuck wit it tho
@@G.Rudi.B you can imagine his parents coming to one of their iconic concerts now 😂 and being so proud of him
The first time his parents attended his concert, he gave them the traditional Korean formal bow and cried like a baby. This was noted by everyone who watched that concert. I not gonna forget that ever.
I liked that you mentioned that you have to read to improve your rap bc RM reads sooo much he loves literature and you can really tell in the way he writes lyrics. He wanted to be a poet before he wanted to be a musician!
Yea you can tell. It’s evident that he’s into poetry. But rap is just rhythm and poetry 🤷🏾♂️. So it all worked out
RM has an IQ of 148. He is so smart.
A musician IS a poet. They both articulate words to paint a picture for the person listening/reading.
8:18 omg to see J-hope saying Cole World back then, and now having the honor to say J. Cole features on his song🤧
BTS shows the difference between hip hop black culture appropriation and true appreciation by paying continuous homage to those they learned from and respect. Also the vocal line chorus here is so good, the phrase “Hip Hop has the scent of humans” is such a good description. They just love hip hop.
G DRAGON THE KING
Well, you can't blame people for not knowint what they've never been taught. Like, I am a white German European growing up on Pop Rock Metal influenced Local Bands stuff...the fact that HipHop (onces) used to be more than "I fuck all the b*tches in the club and on the pavement because I discovered my gentials." Only reached me later in a curious attempt wondering where the Genre even stems from but I still didn't know what the appeal could have been before I discovered the way these 7 South Korean boys-men handled it and that was as they were entering the MAINSTREAM.
I personally don't have a problem to admit that when it comes to music and Genre am pretty much Mainstream (even in the alternatives) and don't know sh*t. And it still doesn't keep me from getting happy how much this Song is celebrated by everyone who grew up on the mentioned Artists like I will never feel it but it makes me grin like a cheshire cat everytime there is a new intrest-Fan who you think you could suggest it too. ^^
@@annasaddiction5129 It's just you not being interested in this kind of music deeply. That's ok but don't "disrespect" the whole genre by saying that only once it was more than "I fuck all the bitches" (BTW, what's the reason behind censoring the "bitches" and not "fuck"?), that's only a part of it and it has it's historical reason for existing in the genre too, you would be surprised. I'm aware that it's the kind of hip-hop that is prevalent in German mainstream media (Polish person here, I'm more-or-less aware of what is popular there and have a good knowledge of the classics) but there's a lot of great hip-hop artists in Germany as well. Actually, "Liebesbrief" by Thomas D. is the reason that I know that German language is not only hard-sounding but can sound softly and delicately and be truly beautiful. It's still one of my ever-favorites in German music along with the whole Die Fantastischen Vier. But I don't think that the place you were born is that important. I was always listening to rock/metal/alternative but that have never stopped me from growing up listening to 2Pac, Wu-Tang, Eminem etc. as well. In high-school I got into j-rock and j-pop and the drill was the same - when you are learning something knew that comes from another culture, you have to pay close attention first and learn what would be disrespectful to that culture, especially when that art has it's basis in the struggle of a group of people in said culture. Also, when you're an adult, you can't rely always to "be taught" everything since others don't exist to serve you (I'm not saying that you're thinking that but words like that are giving an impression of "I don't understand how privileged I am" and I'm sure that most ARMYs aren't that). You have to actively seek that knowledge yourself - nobody else will do that for you. BTS themselves had actively roasted music creators who act like the hip-hop has no history and you can just do it like it was always Korean without learning where it came from (RM and Suga literally made the other's listen to American hip-hop classics so they would know the basis). I'm sure that Maria was referring to those artist and not casual people who sometimes say something that sounds wrong and they don't mean it. That just an honest mistake, not a consious choice to omit a ton of history from the art that's supposedly loved by those people. Of course that it's normal that you haven't learned about that culture naturally but you're not trying to be a hip-hop artist😉. I love though how our guys are bringing us all together. It's the only fandom that I know that's made out of people with tastes and backgrounds that are wildly different, but we all surely know good music when it hits us in the face. Have a nice weekend, dear! Hopefully it's less rainy than where I am💜

Hiphop is not just rap, it's an entire culture, it had the dance and the dj elements and hobi represents that in bts.
Also I wanna talk about epik high.
Epik high is a korean hiphop group that started in 2001. They were pioneers in the genre along with another group dynamic duo who is also mentioned.
Rm and jhope both mention epik high in their verses.
Both suga and rm were fans of epik high in elementary school, that's how they were introduced to hiphop and rap for the first time.
Hiphop wasn't popular in korea at the time, so epik high struggled a lot, their label tried to market them as a boy group even once. But about 3 years after they debuted epik high did a song called "fly" and it became a hit and did numbers in korea. That's how suga and RM both found hiphop. Then rm being a nerd, dove into the history of hiphop and its origins in america.
Jhope was more familiar with American hiphop than korean ones cus he was dancing to US music from age 10. Jhope only started listening to epik high after he joined bighit, rm and suga introduced epik high to him.
Ok I’ve heard alot about Epik High at this point..gotta check them out. Especially if BTS respects their craft. They have good taste in music so I trust it
@@G.Rudi.B RM and suga both have collaborations with epik high.
Epik high rapper Tablo features in All Day by RM.
And epik high song Eternal Sunshine was produced by suga.

Because of their hip hop songs i listened to them and now BTS has a big part in my daily life. I even went to Korea for their last show.
How do you feel to discovered them during their hiatus. ???
Big thank you to describe so well their music. 💜🎶
Just recently j-hope cleared the sample for Shimmy Shimmy Ya by Ol' Dirty Bastards for his song "What If.." and paid homage during his live performance as well as paying Webstar and Young B 3 million dollars to make his own version of Chicken Noodle Soup. It makes me so proud to know that I stan artists that KNOW the history and really love music.
14:19 and YoonGi's (Suga) story is filled with that grit and determination. His parents didn't support him for a while, I think I heard that they would even throw out his notebooks and equipment. Not only that but they were not well off, so he had a part-time job as a high school student (which isn't that common there)...the studio he mentioned, he was writing for others there and has said that his music was ripped off and he was not paid most of the time. Then left home at 17 or 18 for Seoul by himself. Had many days of deciding on either eating or taking the bus (home was an hour walk). While he was still a trainee he had a part-time job because the label was on the brink of closing...while working as a delivery person on his bike he was hit by a car and dislocated his shoulder but didn't say anything because he thought they would kick him out (only finally had surgery on it in ~2021 after years of touring getting injections and being taped up). I've heard him say all he cared about at one point was to at least debut so he didn't have to go home and look everyone in the eye that didn't believe in him as a failure.
Suga really went through alot of hardships, really proud of him.
Just to add that the disagreement with Yoongi's parents only last maybe 6 months when he just started to work at that studio but after that they did support him.

So, I’m a mixed kid born in the 70s and grew up with hiphop and it is dear to my heart. Watching their real love and respect is incredibly moving. I hesitate to suggest this, but back in the early days, they did a series called American Hustle Life. It is cringey and starts out pretty racist in my opinion, but as it goes on, they really form relationships with Coolio, Warren G, and some other folks hired to “school” them. And a beautiful gospel voice teacher who seems so proud of them by the end. Most of BTS come from nothing and relate to hiphop on a visceral level. So if you can stomach some of the cringe, it’s worth a watch.
😂baby bts roots😂 💜🥳
Well thanx for the heads up about the racist shit, but still I’ll check it out
@@G.Rudi.B it's the racism bts received, she didn't include that
@@paolaccorrea it was also MNet making stereotypes of the black culture like the african americans in the hood kidnapping the members. It's a good thing BTS company stepped in after that fiasco and also removed one of the "mentors" being rude to Jin and Suga.
In general I find a lot of young Bts pretty cringe- they’ve grown up a lot and matured a LOT over the years - specifically around 2015/2016, that was definitely a turning point
You get it! You really do! You have the true understanding and deep appreciation of who these 7 men are and what they deserve. You have no idea how happy your reaction has made me. I appreciate your appreciation lol. No but fr thanx for tappin in and for the kind words 💯🫡
What I love about this song is exactly what you mentioned. Anyone can Google "famous/influential rappers" and put them in the lyrics.... but you KNOW BTS did their homework, actually put in the hours to listen to, study, and appreciate those names. It's evident in how they write and how they sound.

Your reactions leave me so satisfied every...single...time. You just get it, my friend. Your thoughts are so clear, coherent and on point. I really, really love that for you.
I think it's time you approached the video all beginner armys must watch, a video that you will see recommended to you a LOT from now on - An introduction to the seven members of Bangtan (the documentary by Taylor). It'll pop up if you look it up on TH-cam. It's important for you to understand their story, because it's a rocky and long road full of hardships and trials. When you understand the boys, you will understand their artistry so, so much more. It's a 40 minute video, but don't worry about the lenght - ARMY will eat videos like that up for breakfast.

In an interview on Sugas show SUCHWITA ( drink with suga) I think it was V said RM made all the vocal line a data stick with all the great Hip Hop songs on it. V said he begged them to listen to it how can you call yourself singers if you do not listen to music. V said he was crying as he begged them to listen. V said hes proud he kept that up. He listens to new music every day. On a different interview on SUCHWITA Jungkook admitted he did not listen to all of them. In the book. They describe the life in the dorms being like a Hip Hop School of Rock with RM being like the Jack Black character, and Suga like his TA. They would also make the vocal line watch performance videos and say look how cool that is. Trying to get them all to understand and love the musicblike they did. Thats also when J hope learned to Rap.
Love that they drop J Coles name and then JHope got to collab with him. So cool seeing them all work with their idols!

Wait...this concert was over 7 years ago? So this song was likely written well before that. Wow. There's so much introspection, maturity, and humility in their lyrics for guys at such a young age. Great reaction. Peace.
This song was on their album "dark & wild" which was released in August 2014
BTS have always been the most passionate and the most driven in their field, which was what took them from being a small hip hop group under a label near bankruptcy to the biggest band in the world. Endless respect for them because they have always known.
Thank you for watching! You gotta listen to RM's album Indigo and he did a collab with Wale called 'Change'.
Change is truly underappreciated. It's such a great collaboration; I love that song.
@@chere100 that song really roped me in when I first discovered bts, and never turned back from then.
Indigo is such a masterpiece....💜
y'know why armys insist people learn about bts' origins as a hiphop group? it may seem like a moot point bc they've branched out into a wide variety of genres now and go back to the roots only once in a while, but I think hiphop gave bts the inspiration and will to write THEIR stories into their art, whatever the genre the song itself may be of. that's what set bts apart from the beginning-- learning what real music entails from the greats themselves. bts are students of hiphop in the sense that they will put every fibre of their being, their blood and sweat into their craft! every time!
also, can I know what song your ringtone is?😂
i highly recommend you listen to their born singer proof live version!! it’s their most recent performance of the song and it’s my absolute favorite. you could honestly listen to the entire proof live bc all 3 songs are good :)
12:02 BTS always meticulously makes lyrics. RM also said that he pays big attention how sounds of words hit ear. And really, what stands out for me in BTS is how the sound of words hits you, adding the emotion and melodies and beats, you don't even need translation to get lost in their songs

The word for love in Korean is Saranghae, the word for purple in Korean is Bora. In a concert, Taehyung named purple as our fandom colour, and he coined Borahae; love in our colour. So Borahae is a very special term between BTS and ARMY 💜
I know you love lyrics, so google up 'doolsetbangtan' and enjoy the lyrics break down along with cultural and historical context.
Borahae (pronounced like bora-hay) is written in English as “I purple you”. Bora (보라) is the word for purple, and it was combined with the ending hae (해) - like in the word Saranghae (사랑해) which means I love you. It’s essentially a sort of play in words. It was a phrasing created by one of the members V, one of the vocalists- he gave it extra meaning as well saying it would mean “to trust & love you for a long time”. It’s common phrasing among ARMY💜
Love the reactions man!
"Borahae" which combining "Bora"(puple)and Saranhae(I love you) means "I purple you" which is a term one of their members V(Kim Taehyung) made up in one of their concerts. He said, "purple is the last color of rainbow. It means i will trust and love you for a long time" and since then its been an iconic phrase we(BTS and ARMY) use to express our love for each other. Purple has also become our iconic special colour because of it.
Thank you for the reaction. Im glad ya worked your way around to this one. And as you are discovering and you even touched on, their lyrics are deep and well thought out. I am sure they also spent time in the dictionary finding the correct words to translate their messages. they have help a tremendous amount of people grasp the right perspective on LIFE as a whole. I truly believe they"BTS" were destine to impact the world and wake up the sleepers.
As many people know, j-hope got his start in the world of music through dance. As he mentions in the lyrics to “Chicken Noodle Soup” (feat. Becky G), he grew up dancing on Choong-jang Street. In his second year of middle school he became the youngest member of local dance crew NEURON and went on to scoop up awards at several dance competitions. He was already considered a dance maverick in the area long before he ever became an adult. As revealed in the track “Hip Hop Phile” off BTS’s first studio album, DARK & WILD, j-hope was listening to old-school hip hop and other pre-2000s music from the time he was dancing boogaloo and King Tut. But it’s an understatement to say he was simply listening. He necessarily listens to everything in the music-from the beat to the lyrics-very thoroughly, and it’s fair to say at this point that he’s soaked up the music so completely that it’s embedded itself into every corner of his mind and every inch of his body. He also started rapping once he began training as a singer. It was at that time that he discovered J. Cole. j-hope shows his love for the rapper in “Hip Hop Phile,” where he dedicates more than two lines to him.
I was curious how j-hope, who got his start as a dancer, came to like J. Cole, himself famous for his lyrics. But seeing how even today j-hope uses an old-school sound and writes introspective lyrics, I think it’s perhaps not so surprising after all. J. Cole is a jack of all the music trades. Originally a producer, he then wrote lyrics chock-full of rhymes, poetry and spiritual reflection and put them over his own beats. j-hope has said how much he respects J. Cole and is quickly becoming as well-rounded as the artist he looks up to. j-hope was already dancing at a professional level, but he’s since polished his rapping, songwriting and production skills through “self-learning for 11 years,” as he sang in “MORE” (meaning 12 years now). He said in an interview with GQ Korea that he imagines himself on stage and writing around that right from when he starts making a song. He may have started as a dancer in Gwangju but he shows his versatility as an artist as he continues to draw from that experience.
Although j-hope was positioned as a rapper when he debuted, he had never been a rapper in any meaningful capacity prior to that. But that has actually given him unbridled ambition and clarity to be free with his musical pursuits. As I wrote in a column for SisaIN in 2018, j-hope doesn’t really owe the Korean hip hop scene much because it isn’t where he got his start. He has since said with confidence that his musical roots are the 1980s and ’90s hip hop that he grew up dancing to. Jack In The Box and “on the street” back up his claim. “MORE,” released in advance of Jack In The Box, expresses his thirst for achievement, and the album’s closer, “Arson,” shows he wants to keep trying new things even though he’s aware of how dangerous ambition can be.

I'm so endeared by this reaction, I loved it. It's just like two genuine people finding each other and respecting each other. This was so amazing to watch. I'm really excited for you to get into the Cyphers (pt. 1 - pt. 4) and Born Singer.
Also, it's Borahae ( pronounced Bo - ra - hey ) which translates to I purple you which means "I will love you and trust you for a long time." ( V came up with this phrase)
Also, Jimin just released his solo album !!!!! I can't wait for you to get into more of their songs which are not so rap-heavy, though I'm loving this journey !!!!
Borahae ! 💜
50 years of Hip Hop as of yesterday, and this just shows the impact Hip Hop and the culture has had around the world. BTS love and respect of Hip Hop is what initially made me an ARMY.
💜❤🖤💚
Hope you get to the CYPHERS 1,2,3,4 !!!! BTS top tier rappers - coming from 38 years old one who grew up being fan of WuTang and 2pac
We miss you @gameboyy310!! Please come back!! You doing ok? I rewatch your BTS reactions from time to time because there’s nobody like you and you make me laugh so much. I relate to how it feels finding these phenomenal boys. I am one year down the rabbit hole and I am not looking back. Come say hi and let us know where your journey has taken you sir 🙌. Borahae! 💜
detail! Epik High it's a Korean hip hop band both Namjoon and Yoongi are fans of since they were very young
They are diligent student, did their research and pay homage to those that inspired them - even back then & continue to do so till today. That genuine passion to create music & consistently are the reason why I stan them sm. I enjoyed your reaction, take your time and that drawing is beautiful.
OMGOMGOMG I’ve been waiting for this!!!! Thank-you for digging this deep; it means so much 💜💜💜
It really does 💜
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I grew up listening to hip hop and Chicano rap so when I came across BTS I could immediately tell there was something different to them than other KPOP group. It’s noticeable who comes into rapping because they grew up with the music and who only started because their company assigned them that role when they formed their group.
@10:59 BTS has respect for the greats. Some of our new American Hip Hop Artists wouldn't even think to pay homage. Its one of the reasons that so many people are Armies. FYI, When you hear them say Epik High, they're a Korean group. In your time away from your channel, listen to their song Lesson zero. You won't need subtitles as its in English and its not a banger. They're spittin facts about the world. Trust me when I say you are going to really love this song.
It's one of my favourites from Epik High as well! Tablo really just told us all the truth in Lesson Zero.
The fact that i was a huge fan of Tupac cuz of his rap skills and meaning behind his songs then becoming an army cuz bts have the same style of meaning is my truly life style 💜
Epik High's (a khh group they mentioned here that esp. rap line looked up to) Tablo revealed that Namjoon (RM) and Yoongi (SUGA/Agust D) are the bts members he's closest to, and that they always talk about music. That's how much they love music.
My friends and I were metal heads, it's mostly what we grew up on. We discovered R&B and hip hop in the 80's and I remember in high school when Snoop, Dre, 2PAC, gangsta rap and all that came out, I remember being told we weren't allowed to like that music because we weren't black. That always left a bad taste in my mouth. Debbie Harry of Blondie is white as they get and in 1980 she rapped in her song Rapture, it was the first rap to hit #1 in America and the first to be played on MTV. That song is what brought rap to the attention of the world. I love the song and I'm glad she was inspired and "opened the door" as they say, for the rest of the world to see how great the genre is. I grew up mostly in foster care and every house had a different genre they stuck to. I learned that music is for everyone, and so long as you give it the respect it deserves - regardless of the genre, language, origin, etc - then appreciating and vibing with the music is all you need.
I loved hip hop from before you or BTS were even born. As a little white girl in the suburbs I got made fun of because while my friends were into Billy Joel and Journey I was hooked on Run DMC and Doug E Fresh. Like I still remember the first time somebody played Rock Box for me. Life changed. When I found BTS I thought they'd be a fun little k-pop diversion for a few weeks but then I heard the Cyphers and I realized this relationship was going to be much deeper than that. If you know you know.
ah i really love your reactions!! this song is one of the reasons why i love and respect bts so much. they give credits where it’s due! so you see, kpop profits off of hip hop and black culture a lot, but they don’t respect it. usually in kpop groups they have a rap line aka members that can rap, but they’re just there to fill in (or as suga once said, “all of you who are called rapper because you can't sing, the title is too extravagance for you"). so you won’t find rappers like this anywhere in kpop, even though some “rappers” in kpop groups are trained for it and may appear to rap well, they don’t know the culture - they’re just doing it because their companies told and taught them so. but not bts. originally, bts was supposed to be just a three member hiphop group, consisting only of rm, suga and jhope. they even have a song from that time, called paldogangsan. their ceo decided later that they would be a hip hop idol group, and that’s how vocal line members were added. and you know already that suga and rm were underground rappers, and that music and hiphop was their passion and their salvation basically. jhope, as a street dancer, also always loved and respected the music and the culture. they never forget their roots. they always mention their idols, and they always show respect. they don’t claim the culture as theirs, but as an inspiration. i always admire them for that so much❤️
I think this is the first BTS song you're hearing that includes all seven members? The other four are singers. Having four talented singers in addition to the three talented rappers (with one of the rappers and one of the singers having come to the group originally as dancers) allows BTS to explore almost any genre of music that interests them.
They've done everything from acid jazz/bossa nova to Latin pop to pure ballads to boy band pop to the rap you've already heard, all the way through to mashups of all the above. They themed an entire album around concepts of duality and self as explored by German poet/philosopher Hermann Hesse in his novel Demian. They named two albums after the map of the soul conceptualized by Carl Jung. They experiment. They try everything. Because they love what they do.
Because they're such curious and willing musical explorers, they open doors for people to learn about music they'd never heard. You came to BTS through J. Cole. Think about how many of BTS' 40 to 100 million fans around the world (depending on whether you believe TIME magazine or the Harvard Business Review, respectively) found J. Cole because of j-hope's admiration for him. That's the kind of connection the world needs more of: doors that open both ways and allow us all to walk through and learn and understand more about each other.
I love this reaction, I knew you would enjoy it! I was one of those who recommended the song, I love it!
This song, for me, is the *INTRODUCTION of BTS's rap line*.
RM talks about his old school hip hop influences and what this culture represents to him and how he came to it. The early age at which he fell in love with rap and the respect he has for hip hop and what being a rapper means to him, which goes beyond just following a beat, the message is the essence.
Jhope did not rap before he was in BTS (in fact, RM and SUGA helped him in the early years, in addition to his own study and effort, until he found his own style) but he was part of the hip hop world as an underground dancer. He has developed a style that reflects the good ear and natural rhythm he has, his flow, his cadence, his swag...jhope dances with the beat while he raps, fabulous!
SUGA's verse is beautiful, although he doesn't mention his influences such as EPIK HIGH (an influence for all 3) or EMINEM (the first album he bought was his), he tells his story and how hip hop came into his life naturally and although many tried to stop him, rap persisted in him and became his everything. SUGA's verse is the story of any rapper who feels passion for music and hip hop culture..."If loving this culture is a sin, I'll die over a hundred times"
THANKS FOR YOUR REACTION!
I highly recommend "Born Singer" is an adapted song by BTS of J. Cole's song "Born Sinner". Originally, the song was released unofficially in 2013 (BTS debut year), and it has the same composition as the original and the lyrics were re-written by RM, SUGA and J-hope. Today is an official song of the group (obviously with J. Cole's permission due to copyright issues) included in the anthology album Proof (their latest album): th-cam.com/video/8cUQ3lF3_O8/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=mar21
This is one of my favorite reactions from you. I appreciate you following us down the rabbit hole after realizing that it wasnt just hype 😂 I am not quite Army, lol, but I do appreciate BTS as a group of talented Creators and Artists, and value the evolution they've had. I fuck with them because they didn't just appropriate, they learned and then ENCULTURATED Hip Hop with a Korean sentiment. Hip Hop is 50 years old and I'm 45, so I AM Hip Ho, and so are RM, J-hope, and Suga
borahae
The first date you've reacted to J-Hope with J-Cole is 4th Feb 2023
I was at the movie theatre watching the YET TO COME in Kahramanmaras /Türkiye with purple balloons, so proud and happy...
2 days later the earthquake happened here and since then BTS is my rock to survive and to have strength to live...
I am 53 and loving my sons
I really enjoyed listening to how you love hip hop so much and appreciate u telling us about yourself a little. You are super insightful and compassionate. It is also very nice to see someone truly enjoying listening to BTS for their talent and not for the views. If u like R&B please consider listening to "the untold truth", I think u would love the vocal line. 💜
Yeah I need a recommendation for the vocal line. I heard mic drop already tho i thought it was 🔥
much respect to you too for really 'listening' to their songs 💜 I'm like a proud mama y'all 😆
It’s damn sure worth the listen each time🔥
Another thing you're going to see from them over and over again is the name Epik High It's a Korean rap group that the rap line especially Namjoon and Yoongi a credit to being the reason they are where they are that they are who they are and they are fandom goals to that group's fandom because they are not only super successful but actually close friends with Epik High to the point that recently RM put a song out and got Tablo the leader of Epik High to feature and Tablo respects him so much that he didn't even listen to the song that Namjoon sent him before he agreed to be on it because he knew that Namjoon doesn't joke but Namjoon is amazing and he didn't even have to question the skill and talent and lyricism
“Sometimes you gotta read … and expand your vocabulary.”
Truer words, friend, truer words. I’ve thought this as I’ve watched your videos, but you have a lovely way of working your vocab into your reviews. It’s the kind of thing I want to show high school or middle school kids 😂 Like, cuss away, young people, use your slang and young people speak, but also, expand your vocabulary and use it to amplify your message. I recognize a fellow word nerd when I see one.
Here's the crazy part....they didn't forgo their education to pursue their dreams. All of the members have BA's and either have or are currently pursuing their Master's degrees. Let's be real..at this point they are set financially for life, but they value their education too. They did fight against the pressures around them to take the "safe route" of a reliable paycheck though. They had music in their souls and nothing was going to stop them. RM for example has a high IQ (148) and tested in the top 1.3% of S. Korea in several subjects. I'm sure his family pictured his future as a doctor or scientist, but he followed his passion. His intelligence shows through loud and clear in his art. It's incredible how they can switch back and forth between English and Korean, sometimes with lyrics that rhyme (and make perfect sense) in both languages. I love how they studied the culture and always give props where due to those who came before them. Thanks for reacting.
4:20 when he talks about hip hop names he also mentions Epik High which is a Korean hip hop group, I recommend you react to them too, they are INSANE
Oh yes they have RM&Suga(Agust D) actually were in the SK Underground Scene and got hated for going the Idol route, there they've got handed the flyer out "You don't fit the Idol Beauty Standard BS" and even their debut was of a mere lucky coincdence because the Group that theoretically had their spot couldn't go all of a sudden...and that was their first TV Performances and many of which got cut short..
There are clips in the archives of BTS selling tickets to one of their first concerts in LA, I belive, for free....
Damn those times are gone long now they fill Stadiums with more habitants on regular basis than many countries have.
Crazy and another prove that "overnight success" is an utter nonsense phrase...
I’m really loving hanging out and learning so much from you. Thank you for seeing and appreciating BTS’ talent it means a lot to us. 💜
Speaking of homework - back in the early days rapline made the vocalists listen to rap giants and new music in general to broaden their horizon and practice songwriting, bts talked about it in the interviews :) so yeah, they take this stuff seriously!
I was looking for this comment! I think it gets mentioned in IN THE SOOP, too, yeah? That rm gave the vocal line hip hop homework. Jin's also mentioned that his brother was super into hip hop and helped recommend him some music, too. They all really worked to educate themselves on this.
This is one of my top BTS song. Thank you for your reaction as always. You get it all the damn time
Man, they got “IT”all the time
I loved watching your reaction! Always happy to see when another video of yours is uploaded (non bts reactions included - watched your other reaction to NLE Choppa and Lil Wayne earlier)
Also, while watching this I kept on thinking that you should listen to Born Singer and then you mentioned it in the end!
And ps. hope your own artistic journey is successful and fulfilling!
Thanx for that fr..I appreciate chu tappin in and for your kind words💚💯🙏🏾
my fav song from bts 💜
Wow the crazy part is the only person who was willing to work with j hope is his muse j Cole . I would love to see suga and Eminem do a collab , I do think if 2pac was alive he would like rm ,suga and j hope style .especially the fact that bts have messages in the music .
i'm a huge army and i LOVE hip hop so much, i'm so glad you listened to this. a couple of names they shouted out but were unfamiliar to you are Epik High and Dynamic Duo who are part of the korean hip hop scene. epik high is the reason why rm and suga started rapping in the first place, and they're still active 20 years later. i hope you check them out! i just went to see them in concert a few weeks ago.
i'm really enjoying watching your reactions and authenticity and will continue to follow your journey.
Yeah they really do love hip hop so much! There’s even a video of them dancing to Tricky by Run DMC they were so young back then. They are just really everything and I’m so happy they are getting recognition for their talents! So thank you for watching them 💜
3:38 I had the same reaction when I read her lyrics the first time even though I've been an army for a while 😂 They always surprise me, so proud of the artist they are, amazing 💜
So happy you got a chance to hear this; it's one of my top 5 BTS songs! I knew you would love and appreciate it. They are all such music lovers, and they are very vocal at showing that love and respect. As they are focusing on their solo stuff right now with military enlistment happening, most of them have been lucky enough to work with some of their musical heroes...like j-hope with J.Cole for On the Street. I'm sure we will see more of that, too. ARMY are so happy to see them being able to do that! I'm really happy to see that Born Singer will be next. Loved watching this; thanks!
They mentioned 'EPIK HIGH' twice. Epik high is one of the first Korean hiphop. One of the member of epik high is genius, lyrical genius. I hope you can react to Epik high's 'map of the soul worldwide', please.
17:23 "What does Borahae mean?" :
During a concert in 2016, BTS member V (Kim Taehyung) coined the word "Borahae" which translates to "I purple you" and means “I'll love you till the end of days," / I love you / since purple is the last color of the rainbow! :) Ever since that day ARMYS and BTS's official colour is purple, it means a lot to BTS and us fans, so we often say Borahae/I purple you
minute 11:55 YES EXACTLY, that's why I love bts so much
I highly recommend you also check out the group Epik High, who they mentioned several times in the lyrics. Someone else already explained in the comments, but they’re a legendary OG Korean hip hop group. They played a huge role in the popularity of hip hop in Korea and are still dropping bangers to this day. 20 years in. I definitely think you’d like them.
Anyway, I just wanted to say I’m really enjoying your reactions and your sincerity towards music in general. I appreciate your passion.
I have yet to miss any of you videos BUT somehow I managed to miss this one 😐
I’m late but let me get to it. First things first. This is one of the reason that the BTS RAPLINE is so different and special from other idols groups “rappers” These 3 guy love for hip hop shows in their lyrics, craft, and most importantly the knowledge they have. I will die on this hill when I say .. ain’t no other rappers in SK like the BTS RAPLINE! 🔥 they took the time to study also working with Warren G, Coolio (rip) and I feel like I’m missing some maybe. Anyways, they go so hard. Rapping with BTS and rappers as solos, it’s amazing to watch.
GameBoyy 310 you real af! I love your videos! 💜
Simplemente, HERMOSO!
💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
“Borahae” has a very beautiful, unique story behind it.
Back in 2016 when BTS was going through a very hard time due to many hardships, vocalist member Taehyung has just lost his grandmother who raised him like a second mother. During their fanmeet concert, fans were covering lightsticks with different colors bags. When Taehyung was having his speech and cried opening up about his grief, the bags were purple. Taehyung made up a completely new meaning to purple color, saying “purple means: I will love you and trust you for a long time” and said “I purple you” to fans. In Korean Bora - purple, hae - action verb-you ending, borahae.
Somehow it immediately caught on with the entire fandom, became BTS & ARMYs way of expressing mutual love and trust, many of the most famous buildings in the world lit up purple to celebrate BTS visiting them.
Please react a bit to vocal line, for example Taehyung’s song Singularity, Jimin just dropped his solo debut with synth pop Like Crazy
and the LIVE performance was so good! they light up the stage with passion
I have been binge watching all your reactions and I am so thankful that you stumbled onto BTS. They mean so much for so many people, they are students of hip-hop and rap and always have been.
I love your reactions. I've been watching you since your "on the street" reaction. Keep doing you. 💜
If you didnt already know, Epik High is a Korean Hiphop group (trio, technically) who have been BTS's inspiration and also now, from what i know, one of the member (Tablo), is one of BTS' closest friends. Epik High is BTS' seniors in the industry :)
Did you know they were sent to the west coast to study hip hop back when they were trainees? There's an actual series that was filmed and available on yt... American Hustle. You should check it out. You can see that it's always been about the music, watch them grow. Their mentor in the show was Coolio.
The fact that hip hop is just a few years older than me makes me so proud and grateful to have been born in '77... Spent the first half of my life on the East Coast, marinating in NYC/Philly/Jersey's finest; second half, here blazing in the 310 of it all, imMERSed in West Coast. Then, in September 2019 when I finally got clean, BTS casually reawakened my soul, and seven men from Korea reignited the spark within that makes me want to experience life, beauty, music, truth. This song is like an audio yearbook of my existence - on GOD. You can't love hip hop and not respect this song, this group, and what they do... you just can't. 💜⁷
Every you talk about them making hiphop homework it reminds me of when they met Coolio in their very early days, rookie group visiting America to learn so more about hiphop, was made into a show called American Hustle Life. They had to answer questions about hip hop artists or events, because « you have to know to pay respect » something along those lines was said.
I always think this had lead them a lot, a good lesson learnt very young
There's a line between cultural appropriation and cultural appreciation and it's obvious which idol groups are simply using elements of hip hop purely for the aesthetics and which groups actually understand and respect the culture and it's roots. It was a smart move for Big Hit to send them to L.A. to study hip hop. Yes, it's hard to watch American Hustle Life without cringing, but I think the experience taught them pretty quickly that wearing certain styles or parroting certain phrases didn't make you legit. They came away with a better understanding of HH and it shows in the the many ways they show respect to the source material and give shoutouts to the artists who were their infiluences. The fact that Big Hit took the financial gamble to send them to L.A. for AHL when the company was struggling and budgets must have been so tight shows that Bang PD saw the genuineness in the boys and had faith in them.
No matter what some army say j-hope and the other rappers but especially j-hope have been dancing singing yes singing and rapping to this since children . He is a hip hop dancer and he studies and dances and everything to hip hop . J-hope is authentic rap !!!!! But you know what Cole is just 7! Years more in business then j-hope so know he goes back way back in 80, 90 even before again especially j-hope
Now this is a reaction I have been waiting for!
Next you need to do Born Singer inspired by J.Cole's Born Sinner.
Yes, rapline is amazing. The way they deliver their rap with a touch of the vocal line, so perfect. Thank You for giving some time to explore and learn about our sensational King's BTS. They never disappoint. Yes, born singer is another Amazing song from BTS rapline with a touch of the vocal line. 💜 Thank You for another great reaction.
BTS we’re in American Hustle Life where they studied hip hop from tutors and did missions to better understand Hip Hop.
TYSM for Really paying attention to our precious BTS and the lyrics that poured out from their hard work, blood, sweat, and tears! #peace🫰🏼
