    What happens if multiple characters ready actions and the first characters action triggers the second does it interrupt the third action if it had the same trigger as the first ? Example: four character outside door. Swam of wasp inside room spotted through window. Three PC’s outside door ready alchemist bombs to throw when character 4 opens the door. Swam inside readys attack action when hit by enemy. Would that interrupt first three triggers when first attack hits?

    Question (if this is answered in a later video please ignore this) if they're making only one attack after they readied that action for later, does it suffer a -5 or -10 penalty if any? that's what I'm confused on right now

    • @HowItsPlayed
      @HowItsPlayed  ปีที่แล้ว

      If a character uses a Ready Action to make a Strike, that strike will have no multiple attack penalty unless they used an action during their turn on an Attack action, in which case the readied strike will be made at -5 (or -4 if they use an Agile weapon).

    Does anyone have an opinion on a house rule which gives the option to spend three actions to ready a two-action reaction?
    That would allow casters to get I to the game of ready actions too.
    I don't see any good reason to deny a wizard who prepares to cast a lightning bolt at an enemy when the enemy opens the door.

    • @jasonsoares326
      @jasonsoares326 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I agree with this. It encourages the players to think outside the box, and I wouldn't want to keep spellcasters out of that dynamic.

    Is it possible to improve initiative with delay, by delaying until start of next turn and then play in first order ? Or play after the first in order ?
    While readying, is it possible to use a 2 action activity instead of 1 action only, like launch a spell... when i am accelerated by haste ?

  • @justfurniture6620
    @justfurniture6620 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The action i use for the Ready action *has* to cost only 1 or 0 actions, right? No readying a two-cost spell or fancy maneuver or something?

  • @jasonsoares326
    @jasonsoares326 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Does delay allow a player to use one action and save two actions for later in the turn order, i.e. split their turn?

    • @HowItsPlayed
      @HowItsPlayed  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't think so... I'm pretty sure it's all or nothing. You need to announce you're delaying before using any actions, and then use all three of them after you rejoin the initiative order.

      @@HowItsPlayed Nothing in the Description says that you can only take this action at the beginning of the turn. In fact it explicitly says "The *rest* of your turn doesn't happen yet." Which sort of implies that there can be a part of your turn before "the rest" which has already happened.

    • @НиколайРебека-з4б
      @НиколайРебека-з4б 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@thorstenengler9892 but "Delay" action does have a trigger of "Your turn begins", which would allow characters to use this action only at the start of their turn.

  • @davidhigdon794

    With delaying causing negative effects to immediately trigger, does that mean that, RAW, you would take the negative effect again when you stop delaying, thus effectively suffering from it twice in one turn? If so, with something like persistent damage, would you get two saves against it, technically doubling your chances of saving every round?

    • @HowItsPlayed
      @HowItsPlayed  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, the effects occur at your original initiative. So if you delay, you suffer them at the time you declare you are delaying, but not again when you stop delaying.

      @@HowItsPlayed Problem is you avoid persistant damage any other round by delaying through next round.
      Round 1 - I delay, I take persistant damage
      Round 2 - I re-enter initiative, I don't take persistant damage
      Round 3 - I delay, I take persistant damage
      Round 4 - I re-enter initiative, I don't take persistant damage
      Etc
      By doing this you only get to use your actions any other round and that's on you BUT you also avoid taking persistant damage any other round. Yet rule says you can't use Delay to avoid any negative consequence that would have occurred on your turn. So what ?

  • @shadowpigglet

    In our game, the rogue usually goes before me in initiative order. He doesn't want to delay. I want to delay my turn so that I act right before him.
    That means that the current combat round ends. Can I jump back into initiative order in the new round (so my order is higher than it was and right before the rogue) or do I lose my actions for that round and am right back in the same order or am I last in the order.
    In your example, what if Seela wants to have her turn right after the zombie with initiative 13? is this possible?
    -- Seela "I delay"
    ~~ New Round ~~
    -- Harsk "I swing"
    -- Zombie 13 "Arg" swing
    -- Seela "I want to re-enter initiative" I swing.
    -- Zombie 11 "yar" swing
    -- Zombie 10 "ungg" swing
    new round. would the combat order be Harsk - zombie 13 - Seela -- Zombie 11 -- Zombie 10?

    What happens if i readied an attack action, and just before my turn, something trigger my readied action and attack it, and then when its my turn, I attack it again. Does it have multiple attack penalty?

    • @HowItsPlayed
      @HowItsPlayed  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      IIRC actions refresh at the start of each turn, not round. So no, there would be no multiple attack penalty for the second attack.

    So, what would happen if everybody in the combat used the Delay action? Everyone steps out of initiative, meaning it becomes kinda like a quick draw maybe?

    • @HowItsPlayed
      @HowItsPlayed  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If everyone delays, it continues into the next round and people can choose when to rejoin initiative in the order that they delayed (i.e. if multiple people want to rejoin imitative at the same time, they do so in the order that they delayed).

    So delaying your melee action (run up to foe and attack) to allow the ranged weapons players at least one shot without you in the way will from now on be a permanent detriment to you. Ready don't quite do the same thing.
