While a Predator uses tools a ninja would DROOL over having in their arsenal, and hunt in ways a ninja would skulk around and spy, that is where the similarities and similar interests end. A Predator has more in common with a Samurai and a hunter then a Ninja. QUITE LITERALLY IN ONE OF THE PREDATOR MOVIES a Yakuza member challenges the Predator to a duel and he... de-cloaks and confronts him accepting his challenge. This sheds the very last thing a ninja and predator would have in common. As you said. Honor. If the predator behaved as a ninja would in THIS instance, he would have simply killed the Yakuza member with one of his many gadgets rather then a fair fight. So yeah. Predators and Ninja's are only the same in method and what they do but not why they do it. A Hunter/Samurai with Ninja skills and gadgets vs a Spy/Assassin.

No they are not hunter, that is the point, they are poachers or 'Big Game Hunters'. A Hunter kills for a purpose, getting meat and skin to feed and provide for his family. A Poacher kills for self-gratification, for fun, the trill or just a trophy. A Ninja will kill the target or to get away and complete the mission, not for self-gratification.

You forgot to mention that they LOVE ambushing, wall and ceiling-climbing, using all sorts of narrow hidden paths like technical and ventilation tunnels. Their young ones, the "facehuggers", are small-sized and always go for a sneak attack to the critical spot - the head (namely the mouth, but whatever). Xenomorphs adapt to their enemy, like ninjas do. All of them indeed give a rat's @ss about honor too, only brutal efficiency. ... That said, being a shinobi is a profession. Xenomorphs do all this not because they've been hired, but because... they are just that, xenomorphs, it's what they do. Social differences apply here as much as with Predators.
@@teo9787 tigers and panthers aren't sentient as xenomorphs though. The latter ones were shown to be able to understand human-made buttons and computer consoles.
A critical flaw in the argument being the same as for predators. Xenomorphs have many tools at their disposal similar to the ninja. But they don't behave as ninja at all on the fundamental level. They purposefully seek out others. They might be sneaky about it, but the only thing they aim to do is get up in your face and overpower you. A ninja would stay in the shadows and wait for a perfect opportunity, only attacking lone targets, yet we see the xenomorphs constantly attacking groups of people and needlessly exposing themselves. They're terrifyingly efficient ambush hunters, but they're not ninja.
It seems that while the Predators have the equipment and means of being ninjas, the Xenomorphs are the ones who seem to actually act more like ninjas. Everything the Predators do relates to honour, far more like the Samurai. Whereas everything the Xenomorphs do is about survival at any cost, the fact that they're incredibly stealthy and surprisingly cunning in some instances just helps their case of being more ninja than the Yautja.
He very rarely used stealth, and every time he did, it was focused to complete the mission, often to great effect. He covered as much of his face as he could, and he didn't use his fire bending at he same time as the blue spirit mask. When he wanted to be sneaky, he was pretty good. He even had the awareness to dress in all white when infiltrating the Northern Water tribe.
That's kindof the thing. They follow honor and glory in a hunters sense: a good kill on top prey. It's not survival, it's sport. If it was about efficient killing, plasma casters and portable nukes would be their go-to. They wouldn't even bother with smart discs, staves, or claws. They often find themselves in dangerous situations for thrill. A ninja would do everything in their power to succeed, honor is for the dead.
@@DeadlockDrago but what about that racer Predator that does not care for the other system, that would literally do anything and everything in their ability to make sure they get that killed done as efficiently as possible, and so much so that they will even hunt other predators. Well you immediately got my attention when I saw the thumbnail and I haven't been this interested in a video in a while, inform me wise one. Love your videos as always Gaijin Goomba!! Update I just watched the video honestly I think the Predator is a mix between a Ninja and a samurai.
There's actually a class of Predator that are much closer to the Ninja than Goomba realizes. They're called Enforcer Predators. They were a specific group of Yautja whose sole job was to hunt down and assassinate/execute targets or Yautja that had broken the honor code. There was no honor in killing these Yautja, who were called Bad Bloods, it was simply out of duty to their leader's orders. Some were sent to prevent Xenomorph outbreaks like Wolf in AVP Requiem ( though he was likely an elite, his mission was still extermination rather than honor, hence why he slaughters anyone who sees him regardless of whether they are worthy prey). I feel like the Predator deserves a solid 6 outta 10 shuriken. Their tactics and and weaponry feel like they're one to one as modern versions of shinobi tools and weaponry. The 4 missing shuriken come from the fundamental differences in motive and nature of the combat in which they engage. (Not assassination but hunting).
For me, it's an 8/10. Yeah they don't have the same mindset as historical ninja, but at the same time that mindset probably wouldn't age well anyways and there'd be less and les need for the skills of a shinobi to be used for espionage. Though I will say they sense of honor aligns more with a samurai's. Not completely, but the honor-based hierarchy does seem more samurai than ninja.
She's resourceful, knows how to hide, and while partial to bows, will use whatever's available to control the fight. Depending on how you play, you can damage, if not destroy a lot of enemy forces before they have a chance to attack or even spot you. Not to mention the advantages gained in quiet recon. And if analyzing HZD gives Gaijin an excuse to play it, by all means. I'm curious about his take on it.
One day, one day I'll see "Teenage Mutant Ninja...Rats?! - Which Ninja" as a title hopefully. (Yes I want a Skaven video because I'm a fan-boy of Skaven)
@@cj-yv7jd Also interesting considering how some of the Ninja skills GG talked about in this series are handled by each specific temple. Well, except the Eversor.
Would it be interesting though? Both Predator movies are set in modern time, with modern weapons and second one also with modern technology, and humans with all that still only win because screenwriter said they would. No offence, but no amount of technique and armour are going to protect samurai in open combat against Predator, and no amount of stealth are going to save shinobi from someone who has a both literal invisibility and also a infrared visor.
@@NekoiNemo actually, there is at least two occasions I can remember where a predator lost in open combat to an unarmored human wielding a katana. One of those humans was even accepted into a predator clan and was almost completely accepted as a member of their race. What's more is the predators, by extended lore, often cite Xenomorphs as the greatest and most deadly prey and they dont have any tech or technique. Not to discount how dangerous they really are, but I think it does provide good evidence for the predators in medieval japan being a good setting. Most predators would probably even remove their mask and honorably accept the challenge of most strong samurai. Honestly their honor is the reason the predators die more often than not.
The Predators' techniques and tools are in line with Ninja techniques and tools, but their sociology feela more in line with tribal headhunters and scalp-hunters who also used stealth in hunting techniques. Predators kill for the glory of the hunt, extremely different from the modus operandi of the shinobi who fought to survive and win.
I hope you'll do a video on Frank Goldfinger from _Shadow Hearts: From the New World_ since he pretty much ignores everything on your checklist. I want to see you rage like you did for Genji from _Overwatch._
2:44 any fan of the predators will tell you there is no weapon more iconic to the predators than the wristblade? im pretty sure the plasma caster is more iconic, with its triangle shaped target but good video :)
You know I never thought about the Yautja being shinobi only in terms of equipment and not in terms of code. Gaijin, that was an excellent evaluation that you provided about how genunine (lack there of) the Yautja truly were as shinobi, and I've certainly gained more insight regarding both the Yautja and the shinobi of reality.
You know, one of these days I'm going to have to get you to take a look at the Ninjas in the game I've been working on for the last 8 years. Im very interested to find out what you'll think of them. They need a little more work before they can be reviewed, though. Still, looking forward to that eventuality.
There was a movie where the predators captured a yakuza dude with a katana and he had a 1v1 fight to the death with a predator. I think the yakuza guy won but died from his injuries
There's a comic called Predator: Blood Feud that tells the story of that very concept, it's pretty good if you ever want to give it a read. Have a good one :)
Grab a copy of the book called Predator: If It Bleeds. One of the short stories within details how a fight to the death inspired a man in Feudal Japan to create the Ninja.
Does any one remember the fight scene with the Predator and the Yakuza guy? What I love about that scene is that the predator didn’t sneak attack him. He saw an opponent who wants to fight equally and he honored that by deactivating his camouflage and faced him head on.
Thank you so much. I truly enjoyed how you showed both sides in this video. I feel that both arguments are valid, and as such we should take each predator as an individual case. After all they are not all the same.
You are definitely right. Most Predators are about honorable hunt. Also, this got me thinking about the various technologies for hunting out there today that are reminiscent of tools that ninja would use. Maybe you could do a video on that. Not a which ninja, but just a video on similarities.
There's another glaring aspect about the Predators that disqualify them as ninja. They're Hunters, while they do have clans and employ stealth tactics, Predators are first and foremost hunters, they go for the best game, the strongest prey, the most worthy opponents, they live for the thrill of the hunt, a good fight and the glory of being a victor over the strongest prey, and even honor those who best them or prove their strength, Ninja were spies who also engaged in assassination and as you have stated countless times, their job is to survive and fulfill their missions by whatever means necessary and without the burden of upholding a code of honor and/or being recognized, all that matters is that they get the job done as efficiently as possible.
The only thing that keeping me giving predator a 10/10 is his "trophies" now that's not a bad thing I never heard of Shinobi collecting something from a fallen enemy (their skull) and have it showing it off to show how experienced they are , but all and all Predator gets a solid 8/10 shrikens from me
I'd say their reasons matter; methods will always converge into the most effective tactics available, so that would end up making a lot of characters into ninjas just by being good at their job. If being good at your job is what makes a ninja, you are a ninja.
Cat: Hey, what about the NInjas of Final Fantasy? No, not Yuffie, I mean the ones you get to be in FFXIV? Do they have anything worth talking about? Cy: Don't look at me....
A video idea I've been suggesting for a while would be a Which Ninja video for the Imperial Assassins from 40k, as I think they fit quite a few of the common features in these videos. Plus I kinda want to see Goombah freak out because of the Eversors.
technically.... you're not wrong. aliens would be better for the "why they do what they do" as discussed in this video. plus in the aliens vs predator game we see just how stealthy those bugs can be.
Have you ever thought of doing Zuko's blue spirit altered ego or espio the chameleon, i can see espio being the stereotype and the blue spirit being the more grounded one, but I didn't know if there were lore/traits that hasn't been talked about yet or been as much as on this series

Echo and Hibana, really? Caviera, Alibi, Mute, Nokk, Vigil, Jackal, Iana, heck, even Maverick, Dokkeibi and Kali are better ninjas than those two! Is it because they're japanese? Like sure, Yokai is mainly recon and ultrasonic blasts, but they're stuck in one spot; pretty bad ninja all in all. I think a better episode would be figuring out which Rainbow Six operator would be the best ninja. I'd put my money on Nokk, but hey, maybe it'd be a suprise.
So I can confirm that the Tanuki Gakure no Jutsu works. I climbed a tree on the edge of a street and a cat came by and couldn't find me even when I whistled.
I'd say you broke it down perfectly. They gave Ninja tactics to a culture more like Samurai on recreational hunting trips. Granted it would be a bit odd to honor Sepuku over a deer, but it's a sci-fi culture so the creators can do what they want.
Two episodes I want to see are Snake-Eyes mostly because I want to see how Snake-Eyes' rivalry with Storm-Shadow could correlate to a hypothetical inner-clan feud between siblings, and Galford D. Weller mostly due to how there are historical texts suggesting Ninja actually used hounds, and had training on how to utilize them, and for dealing with enemy guard dogs, along with how Galford's partner the Husky Poppy, and later on her Husky-Wolf mix-breed daughter does have a actual historical correlation as the real-life Hattori Hanzo was said to have had an actual wolf as a pet.
Very interesting video from you. And thanks for the list at 11:00. I think that's honestly the clearest comparison between Chivalry and Bushido that I've ever seen.
Corvo deserve so much an episode because you can play the entire game without using magic, being unseen, not murdering anyone and eliminating your targets through espionage. If there is a game more ninja than this please tell me
Larry Correia wrote a great short story involving a Predator in old Japan titled "Three Sparks". It was published in "Predator: If it bleeds." I think this it meshes well with this video. I highly recommend his stuff.
the predator perhaps is not a scifi version of a ninja but a combination of a scifi ninja AND a scifi samurai, combining probably the best parts of each profession when it comes to hunting, the build and the code of honour of a samurai with the skills and weapons of the ninja
... so, in the end i feel that the episode should have been called "How ninja are the predator items?" Because the only reason the human (i completely forgot his name) doesn't want/likes/agrees that the predator could be a sci-fi ninja is because of their social system.
So many episodes of which ninja try to reddeem and prove ninjas through weaponry, but not many use the ideology of ninjas. This episode shows the distinction of ninja and ninja like.
1:42 Ahhh, Predator Concrete Jungle. My favorite Predator related media outside of the first two movies, with my favorite member of the species as the protagonist. I wish they'd remake/remaster it
I like that you brought up the cultural aspect rather than attributes for your argument. That matters far more for me, unless there are glaring issues in techniques.
Titanfall pilots should be a future episode. All of their equipment and tactics make them a perfect modern ninja. Things such as holograms, cloaking technology, and shurikens that don't kill but slow slow down other pilots.
Aren’t all aliens ninjas? we haven’t found them out there yet.

Have you seen the samurai predator figure yet? its pretty cool.

As a longtime fan of Yautja, I greatly appreciate the time and research you put into this. It's funny, when I was watching "The Unexpectables", I noticed certain similarities between the group and the Yautja. The vain pride of Panic, the imposing physique of Borky, the ideals of Task, and the tactics of Greckles. Speaking of which, you are most certainly a phenomenal D&D player with the manner in which you portray your character. Looking forward to when the party heads to the Eastern Isles.

That's interesting :D
they're just hunters with equipment similar enough to be confused for ninjas.
Depends on the class. Look up the Enforcer Predators. Enforcers were basically the Ninja of Yautja society in that regard.
Multiclass?
I wouldn’t really call them ninja, more like hunters or warriors
Thare Like tribal Hunters
Hunters with ninja skills..... Which would be scary in real life
No they are not hunter, that is the point, they are poachers or 'Big Game Hunters'. A Hunter kills for a purpose, getting meat and skin to feed and provide for his family. A Poacher kills for self-gratification, for fun, the trill or just a trophy.
A Ninja will kill the target or to get away and complete the mission, not for self-gratification.
Grim Reaper
A poacher is just a person who hunts illegally. The reason for hunting is irrelevant to whether or not you’re a poacher.
Ninja hunters? Done.

@UCrKy4awhRQyJQNQaSZT-3zg THey aren't ninja. They don't even have a culture, they're just animals. Intelligent animals, but basically bigger and more sadistic hunting cats.
Seriously;
XENOMORPHS ARE MORE NINJA THAN PREDATORS;
They stay in the shadows, Spit acid to blind or maim opponents,They are very light-weight only eating what they need to survive. they have massive nests filled with shapes similar to there own to throw off potential invaders and give them a potential sneak attack. Their tails are multi purpose along with their head and even their blood
Since Alien takes Place in Space in a MORE Modern Timeline; & Outer Space is Pitch Black due to no Atmosphere; So It makes sense for them to be Black; That's better for Blending into the Dark Blackness of Space than A ****ing Navy Blue; as While That IS Historically accurate; That would ONLY work on Earth; where the Sky was Blue due to the Earth's Atmosphere, and due to Light Pollution not being an issue at the time
I think you're on to something there
You forgot to mention that they LOVE ambushing, wall and ceiling-climbing, using all sorts of narrow hidden paths like technical and ventilation tunnels.
Every predator uses stealth and ambush tactics lol, so does that mean tigers or panthers are ninjas?
"Ninja were not about honor!"
Cues in kid Zuko, crying in his cute ninja get up.
Zuko from the Avatar cartoon?
@@ChillyReaper, probably.
@@ChillyReaper Who else would cry about Honor?
Yo pass the popcorn, this should be one hell of a video to watch. I can't wait.
Indeed it was.
Why trying label predators "ninjas" when they're already "hunters"?
I do not remember what this specific racer Predators is called but, given that they pretty much do everything that the regular predators do they except for having any for my honor whatsoever, they are very much as Shinobi's as any of the other proven Shinobi's on thus channel

Enforcers were basically the Ninja of Yautja society in that regard.
Well this was a episode of which Ninja I wasn’t expecting like at all
So AvP is just a "whose a better ninja" contest?
Or scifi ninja vs samurai if you want to look at it like that
@@RDeathmark You're actually more right.

She's resourceful, knows how to hide, and while partial to bows, will use whatever's available to control the fight. Because of this video, I want a Predator movie or comic where a Predator is hunting Ninjas and Samurais
Me too it would be awesome to watch
There is a predator with red armor and has a big ol samurai sword with samurai leg armor too
Well the Predator did fight Batman....does that count?
And since they didn’t say it in the episode
“Real ninjas wear blue!”
I literally screamed when I saw this in my notifications box, this is too perfect

any fan of the predators will tell you there is no weapon more iconic to the predators than the wristblade?
im pretty sure the plasma caster is more iconic, with its triangle shaped target
but good video :)
XD That argument at the beginning was so cute.
One thing is for certain. If ninja ever managed to get their hands on Predator weapons and tech, they would absolutely use the crap out of it.
I'm surprised we haven't gotten a movie or comic where the Predators attacked feudal Japan.
I think there was one case in the comics where a predator war carrying around a katana. So there was a potentially cool story there we never saw.
So...what about Berserker Predators who don’t really do the whole Honor thing?
The ones you want to ask about are the bad Bloods of the Predator universe meaning there are criminals among the Predators
Ah
Berserker is the name of one predator
The ones who dont follow the rules are called bad bloods
are the beserkers the one in the reboot predator? the ones that was much bigger then the originals and had one chained up?
Sounds more like Nukenin
It makes me so happy that you used that clip from Hyperstealth! The fact that there's a legitimate invisibility cloak 100% needs more attention.
Thank you so much. I truly enjoyed how you showed both sides in this video. I feel that both arguments are valid, and as such we should take each predator as an individual case. After all they are not all the same.
I am so happy that you used bits from Concrete Jungle in your video as it is such an underappreciated game.

Pardon my ignorance but what is a Klingon?
@@Robert_Rankin An alien race from Star Trek.
I would've talked about how murderous the Predator is and ninja aren't.

technically.... you're not wrong. aliens would be better for the "why they do what they do" as discussed in this video. plus in the aliens vs predator game we see just how stealthy those bugs can be.
Technically some other ninjas in media portrays them being only honorable in their own clan.

I would call the Predator a Shinomurai, a Shinobi Samurai.
Very interesting video from you. And thanks for the list at 11:00. I think that's honestly the clearest comparison between Chivalry and Bushido that I've ever seen.

a very nice video it honestly reminded me a lot of conversations that me and my friends have had about the predator and ninjas
Larry Correia wrote a great short story involving a Predator in old Japan titled "Three Sparks". It was published in "Predator: If it bleeds." I think this it meshes well with this video. I highly recommend his stuff.
This is basically how a rectangle is a square, but a square isn’t a rectangle
the predator perhaps is not a scifi version of a ninja but a combination of a scifi ninja AND a scifi samurai, combining probably the best parts of each profession when it comes to hunting, the build and the code of honour of a samurai with the skills and weapons of the ninja
This video has made me crave comparison of historical figures to see if they would fit within the shinobi umbrella.
... so, in the end i feel that the episode should have been called "How ninja are the predator items?" Because the only reason the human (i completely forgot his name) doesn't want/likes/agrees that the predator could be a sci-fi ninja is because of their social system.
So many episodes of which ninja try to reddeem and prove ninjas through weaponry, but not many use the ideology of ninjas. This episode shows the distinction of ninja and ninja like.
So this is like Batman; a ninja build on a samurai mind.
I still love that one of the most definable traits of a ninja is that they love explosives.
