  • Lenovo Legion Go - Model 83E1001YUS
AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme (8 cores, 16 threads)
    RDNA3 Radeon 12CU iGPU
    8.8" 144Hz WQXGA 16:10 2560x1600 500 nits IPS touch LCD (no VRR)
    16GB LPDDR5X 7500MT/s
    PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 2242 1TB SSD
49.2Whr battery with Super Rapid Charge
    Detachable controllers with 900mAh batteries
    Wi-Fi 6E 2x2 and Bluetooth 5.2
    Windows 11 Home
I've had this unit since launch day 11/01/2023.
However it's been impossible to record using my Atomos Ninja V.
Currently you cannot force 16:9 resolutions even if using an external display.
I was forced to purchase the new AVerMedia HDMI Capture GC553G2 Live Gamer ULTRA 2.1 and have also had problems with that.
The AVerMedia isn't recognized by 2 of my laptops even after factory resetting and then upgrading to Windows 11.
Currently I'm forced to record this on an Asus Strix SCAR G15 RTX 3080.
Using OBS Studio to record 4K 60fps to contain the Go's 16:10 aspect ratio.
The Legion Go currently has many issues.
The main one is the gigantic dead zones on the Hall effect sticks.
It is not adjustable at the system level.
The tension on Lenovo's sticks is also very loose like the trash Nintendo Switch sticks.
Currently the Legion Go is somewhat usable in games that allow stick tuning.
The other main issue is Lenovo's performance overlay does not work.
The overlay gets confused by games launching in windowed mode.
I'm forced to use RivaTuner and HWinfo64 which also has output issues with this Lenovo.

"I've got no sympathy for you MF Wraith.." 🤣 Alright, Mike. That actually looked really good. I know I shouldn't, but I still get freaked out by how good some of these handheld devices are. Aside from the sticks, how does this compare to gaming with Apex on your PS5?
I was looking at that Gamer ULTRA 2.1 but I'd read some posts about it still does not having some of the functionality that it should have launched with and it doesn't even work with AverMedia's usual capture utility. Although, all this stuff is coming in updates toward the end of the year, apparently. What put a tin hat on it for me was that it's not compatible with Mac, not even the older X86 Macs. This is similar to their Gamer Bolt interface, the Thunderbolt one they done. What I didn't understand about that was the fact that while Thunderbolt is a universal bus system, it's mostly associated with Mac and the Bolt isn't Apple Silicon compatible.
Apparently, the Elgato HDMI 2.1 USB C capture box is due soonish.
The best thing I've had for Windows capture (outside of my Blackmagic pro cards) has been the Elagto 4K60 Pro MK2 (I also had the MK1 which was great but ran really hot) However, these are PCIe cards. I've still got a MK2 incase I decide to build another Windows work machine.
Do you not use a Windows desktop at all?
I've never understood why Blackmagic have not taken all their experience and skill with their HDMI/SDI capture interfaces/recorders and made the most amazing USB C/Thunderbolt box, dedicated for gaming.
I take it you can't run OBS on the Go? I'm not familiar with its specs but does the GPU part of the APU not have any of the video hardware decoding/encoding that the discreet GPUs have? This is something that I've always liked about Intel with their QuickSync. However, they don't have anything close to AMD for the iGPU graphics power.
    Cheers,
    Dave.

These handhelds are actually very impressive. Except for the Steam Deck they all come with trash sticks. For some reason none of them duplicate the acceleration curves to match a PS or Xbox. However the Deck lets you customize everything on the backend. So I have a customized controller curve that is pretty close to how a PS controller feels. It's not perfect because the tension on the sticks is looser than a PS, but stiffer than a regular Xbox One controller. But at this backend tweak applies to all games.
The Legion Go sticks are very loose and the thumb pads are actually smaller than a PS or Xbox. So fine aiming is difficult for me, especially against these PC players.
But yeah, even though I play Apex at 800p it actually looks really good when I edit it on a big 4K TV. And this Go at 1200p is even better looking. I'm using very close image quality to a base PS4.
I'm really trying to avoid desktop PC's. I don't want to go back to that world. I like having a small laptop that is a turn key solution. Not some desktop that I will probably have to change the case and power supply because a new motherboard won't work with it. Although I almost built one for a PCIe capture card until I settled on this Avermedia ULTRA.
I haven't attempted running OBS on the Go itself. But I don't see these AMD APU's as being fast enough for quality capture. I know when I tried on the AMD laptops they looked like crap and you'd take a big fps hit.
I also tried using OBS on my AMD 6800U laptop to capture the Legion Go. Thing isn't fast enough to keep up with a 4K output even at low settings. Lots of missing frames and huge video skips. So I had to try on my RTX laptops so I could use the NVENC encoder for better hardware acceleration.

Heya Mike, kudos for the effort my man, really impressive. Just a short dumbass question : how would this fare with a PS controller? I have a PS5 but my God I've been dreaming about playing in bed sometimes without a TV or anything. Think this little gizmo should have a Bluetooth 5.0 at least so in this case maybe an external controller would do the job?

I just confirmed this works. Tested it out in Apex and it works perfect with a PS5 Dualsense. No input lag and this bypasses the deadzone issue. However it might not work for everything. Some games look for Xinput so you might have to use a Xbox One controller instead.

I like to ask you, I've been thinking of getting the Legion Go or a gaming laptop. What would you perfer would be worth it? I love playing APEX; one of the reason why I want to know what make sense ?

    • @Mike5GSR
      @Mike5GSR  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

It depends on the portability you want. Legion Go is much smaller. Easier to travel with. I'd rather have a handheld when I'm traveling. It's also easier to game with a handheld when you're laying down.
If you need something faster and can be plugged in, you'll be happier with a gaming laptop.

    • @Mike5GSR

Probably won't fit. The sticks aren't the same diameter and are shorter than console sticks.

I have to disagree completely with what you said about the Magnetic Thumbsticks💀 they're are extremely accurate once properly configured
I am beaming people left and right with barely any effort more than I ever did with my normal used pro controller
I'm able to play on 0 Deadzone 0 response curve 500 max X and 250 y with no difting
Dude no offense but I think you're just bad😅
