    This is a great video and resource for auto detailers who might want to add this service to their menu. Wiper scratches in the windshield and other light damage would probably be easily treated with your method and products. However, glass is much harder than paint and cerium oxide is a very aggressive abrasive. Either mask the paint or wash the car when you're finished. The technician wiped off the surrounding sling on the paint with a dry towel. He just installed a bunch of micro scratches and swirls to the paint on the door frame and adjacent roof area.
    Other than that, cool video.

      I had similar results removing some scratches from my rear window using just cerium oxide and a felt pad on my porter cable DA polisher. It took a while, but they were removed. It would have been faster using a rotary polisher, but my old portercable 7424xp was all i had.

    The most important thing mentioned in this video is the use of a respirator. DO NOT use a dust mask. The respirator with P100 filtering is necessary to prevent glass dust from getting in your lungs, causing them to fill with fluid, killing you. If you manage to just get a little in your lungs, you'll likely get silicosis and that will take longer, but the end result is still a miserable death.

      Yes, but depending on how much curvature the windshield has, it can be rather difficult to accomplish without any deflection. An experienced technicians can accomplish a repair on a curved windshield without a problem, but a first timer is going to need a little luck on his side.

    Would this system work with factory tinted glass on the inside of the glass? My child has severely scratched up the interior side of the rear window in my truck and it's driving me nuts. The glass is factory tinted, meaning it's not a film. Also, would my Flex 3401 polisher work for this? Thanks!

    • @bobsmithinson2050
      @bobsmithinson2050 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No. Those tints are a thin treated coating on the inside of the glass. Any polishing will lessen the thickness of it in some spots, giving a blotchy and uneven tint with some spots being darker than others.

    If the car window has a slight tint from the factory is this method safe to use. I have no idea how the original tint is applied, if its throughout the layers, on the inside or on the outside of the glass. Was worried , if it was on the outside then it could be removed when sanding and on the front windscreen would need to sand the whole panel including the edges to be uniform.

      We have never worked with rayon pads, so I apologize for not being able to answer you question. But I don't want to give you an answer I am not 100% sure of.

    I got some deep scratches on my truck window,why cant I get closer then 2 inches from the edge

    • @jasond869
      @jasond869 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You will leave a distortion mark, if you are doing an edge, you would want to pass once on the edge, move back one disc space and pass twice, move back pass 3 etc in order to lose the scratch over a wider area.

    • @JoshuaWhitesinger
      @JoshuaWhitesinger 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could, just 2 inches away so your disc won't hit the window frame that's all.
