    Joe, I like that process, the losses are far less than any other method. Thank you.

    Great video, thanks for sharing. I had a laying worker last year and they killed the queen I installed. So I finally combine them with a very strong hive. And week later, I did a walk away split. Both hives now have queens and are doing well. I wish I would have done that first instead of wasting money buying a queen

    Thank you. I put my laying worker hive with a screened bottom bored on top of a hive with a screened top. In a week the workers stopped laying and I then introduced a laying queen.:)

    that will be fun to try. I fought a few hives this spring.lost a number of queens trying to requeen them. they always went back to laying worker. now I just dump them a out and remove the box. good workers seem to find a new home. my thinking was if you have been fighting it for 2 months the bees that are left are getting old anyway, and the hive will have a hard time staying strong by the time new brood hatches, and all the drones will drag it down even more.

    Hello Joe, I had a laying worker hive and I took a frame of eggs, larvae and capped brood and put it in that hive .That worked for me. May have been just luck I don't know, Thanks , glad that you are posting again.

    Hi, Joe, There aren’t a lot of mentors where I live so I have been left to my own devices to learn beekeeping. Books and magazines are fine as far as they go, but most of what I have learned I have learned the hard way, by trial and (too often) by error. There are a lot of people posting beekeeping videos on You Tube, but their level of knowledge and experience is, umm, variable. There are a few whom I have learned know what they are talking about. I consider myself very fortunate to find a few that I can trust, and you are one of them. I am deeply grateful for the time and effort you put into sharing your experience with us. I have yet to deal with a laying worker colony, but when I do I’ll remember the Joe May had a video on it, and did back through your channel to find it. Thank you very much for sharing. Stu (lately I have been making a point of letting my video mentors know how valuable their experience and insight is)

    Hey Joe, great instructions........hope you don't mind if I might add something since another problem usually exist with a hive that gone laying worker. One of the biggest things that seems to happen is that those laying workers will practically ruin a lot of the field bee brood comb as they lay it full of drone brood. I've found it best if you can manage to get one back queen right, is to start replacing some of the messed up drone brood comb frames with some that the new queen can start pounding out fertile eggs on. I've seen one actually tear out old drone comb before and replace it with field bee comb, but it seemed to be a long process, and since the hive is usually already weakened, why add to them more work or recovery time than is needed.
    Btw....those two Carni queens I got from you last year are a joy to work with........getting a little dearthish down here and some bees are getting a bit of a temper, but those two are keeping their cool so far.

    It's that time the season..lol. I had two I had to do one I shook out all the bee's about a 100 ft from hive put new box with no foundation and next day put in bottom of a comb with eggs and feed they drew out four cells. I took one of the cells and just put it in the other hive so we will see what happens. Great tip's skinny thanks

    Its even easier to remove the frames with the laying worker eggs and bees replace with open brood with nurse bees. They will make queen cells. Place the laying worker frames in stronger hives. Those bees will clean up frames and laying workers.

    • @LittleBitsHoneyBeesjoemay
      @LittleBitsHoneyBeesjoemay  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That will work but what you did is make a new split and shook the laying worker hive out in the yard and let them find a new home only difference is you decide where you want them to go by placing them in a strong hive.

    What are your thoughts on adding a swarm that you caught to a small nuc that has a laying worker? The nuc had a cell placed in it that didn’t make it back. They were covering less than 2 frames when we combined them in a 10 frame box with swarm.

    • @LittleBitsHoneyBeesjoemay
      @LittleBitsHoneyBeesjoemay  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If the swam is a lot bigger than the laying work hive it would probable be okay. I would put the swam were the laying worker hive is and shake the laying worker hive out on the ground in front of the swarm hive.

    • @GivenChancesFarm
      @GivenChancesFarm 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The swarm was much bigger. That’s how we did it. Thank you.

    Hello, I am getting 3 new virgin queens. I have never introduced a virgin before. Can you give me tips on introducing them or is the introduction process the same? Also, I have a laying worker hive that I have brood to with a queen cell over a week ago. If that queen cell failed, how accepting are they to a virgin queen if I wanted to introduce one to them. But I don't to risk one of these queens because they are precious to me.

    • @LittleBitsHoneyBeesjoemay
      @LittleBitsHoneyBeesjoemay  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have tried a lot of ways to introduce a virgin none works well 50-50 the laying worker adds to the problem. I would take the laying worker hive off the stand put a new hive in its place with a couple frame drawn comb. Open the virgins cage and put her in the new box take the laying worker hive 30 feet or so away and shake them on the ground . If the laying worker hive has a frame of honey put it in new box. Leave it alone for ten days hope for the best.

    This year I have had a hard time with laying workers. I took 3 laying worker hives right next to each other and used the dump method with a new queen. Didn’t work this time. I have used this method before and it worked. So I just put a frame of brood with a queen cell. Will check in a few days. I should have a new queen. Thanks for the instructional videos.

    Great video Joe. Thanks for sharing this. How are those entrances that you made to keep the hive beetles out working so far?

    • @LittleBitsHoneyBeesjoemay
      @LittleBitsHoneyBeesjoemay  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I guess okay not seen any beetles.

    • @jefftuttle7890
      @jefftuttle7890 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LittleBitsHoneyBeesjoemayIf you can, try making some in transparent red.. When the sun light goes through this material it really confuses the beetles and it makes it even more difficult for them to gain access. Thanks for your quick response to my post. Take care.
