Dealing with laying workers

  • While checking progress on my double nuc hives, I came across this nuc with laying workers. This is how I deal with a laying nuc hive, by swamping it with a queen right hive full of healthy brood. The pheromones produced by the queen and brood inhibits the laying worker behavior.

I have a hive with laying workers as well. A couple of weeks ago I did this same thing sort of...I took healthy brood frames and some with newly laid eggs and some uncapped larvae and put them in the hive thats queenless. I'm leaving it alone for a few more weeks hopefully giving them time to make a new queen.

I find it works better adding a queen right nuc.

@@BeekeepingwithTheBeeWhisperer I'm sure it does. That was all I had though. We'll see how it turns out.

You aren’t worried about the gaps between frames in second hive you showed?
