@@WeCouldBeHeroesDesigns in greek mythology, one of the versions said that the chair was a gift from hephaestus to his mother hera (that’s why you can see peacocks on each side of the chair, that’s hera sacred animal) but in reality it was a trap. He wanted revenge because she cast him off of mount olympus basically because hephaestus has a limp and it wasn’t beautiful as the other gods, the thing it’s that hera sat in the chair and no one was able to free her, not any of the other gods so zeus promise hephaestus anything if he let hera go and that’s how he got married to aphrodite, he’s the only one that can reverse the chair trap and he did it for percy because of annabeth’s words
@@WeCouldBeHeroesDesigns I actually have a theory for why Hephestus almost just leaves Percy there. Ares said all of Zeus' children are being sent to hunt for the bolt. Zeus thinks Percy has it. So how does the god of craftmenship catch the thief. Leave another godly item for them to try and take and then he gets the glory of getting revenge for Zues. That is why he almost dismisses Annabeth so fast. He thinks he caught the thief and gave justice for Olympus being disrespected. But Annabeth changes his mind, by telling him the truth. Percy isn't like that. He isn't the thief.

Fun Fact: When we hear Percy's inner thoughts about Ares. He says that he feels this aura that makes him want to fight, to be angry. And that looking at Ares reminds him of everyone who has ever wronged him. That he sees in Ares eyes that he wants to fill Percy with so much anger that Percy wants to hurt someone. And also explains why he tells Ares off at the end of the episode. In the episode they try to still give us a hint that it's possible with Annabeth telling Grover to be careful around Ares, "don't let him get to you, don't let him get in your head." Love it.

camp half blood is basically just like summer camp! some people only stay for the summer and they return to their normal lives in the mortal world (and then return to camp next summer). but some kids, especially with powerful goldy parents, stay all year round.

So the Fates cutting the thread doesn't immediately kill the person whose thread it is, it's more like the thread represents their lifespan. One fate spins the thread. One measures the thread. And one cuts the thread. So if you were meant to live to 90, the one who measures the thread would measure it to whatever length means 90, or however many years you have left till 90, and Atropos cuts the thread at that point, setting your lifespan. But seeing a thread cut is always a bad omen of oncoming death regardless, of either you or someone close to you edit: also yes, the boar is the animal symbol of Ares like the owl is to Athena

They actually changed the Tunnel of Love scene for the show. In the books, mechanical spiders came out of the walls and Annabeth has Arachnophobia due to Mommy Dearest transforming Arachne into a giant spider, just she did with Medusa. Getting out of that required Percy's first really concious use of his powers and some fancy flying by Grover. No appearance by Hephaestus or giant golden throne.

Once a Demigod gets to Camp, the Camp doesn't do much to protect them from the outside world. Like, while they're in the Camp, they're protected, but outside, they don't do anything--no Men in Black style memory wipes, nothing. I think that if they didn't figure out Hephaestus's little "trap", yes, they would've simply been trapped there afraid for the rest of their lives. Also, Hephaestus's trap counted them as they came in, and since Hephaestus was in the park the whole time watching, that's a big reason why the boats may be pre-prepped for them. Also, also, your reaction to Seaweed Brain was very on par with the rest of ours. That is, like, one of the most memorable things in the books and to hear it was one of the best, most exciting feelings. As @TBoring said below, Percy has a "matching" nickname for Annabeth that he uses next episode and its so exciting! Also, also, also: slight spoiler, but, yes, King LMM is going to be in the next episode! Question: what movie do you think Percy and Annabeth would watch first?? I first saw this question on X after watching this episode, and I think it's a REALLY interesting question. For some reason, I think that Disney's Hercules would be high on the list because they'd both be able to dissect its accuracy and maybe laugh at it if it's bad. I also feel like Pitch Perfect could very plausibly be the move because Anna Kendrick's Becca is SO Percabeth coded.
Oh that’s interesting, I figured the demigods had some kind of magical force field around them to protect them in the human world. The chair trap was likely intended for Ares and Aphrodite. It would show how selfish the other is; Aphrodite would never sacrifice herself for Ares, and Ares would try and force her into the chair. And if neither tried to get it back, then he would forever have Ares's shield as a trophy to taunt Ares.

Because I like dispensing information (and being a bit of a know it all) here is some answers to your questions: Seaweed Brain is in the books. It’s initially an insult but very quickly becomes a term of endearment. Percy also has a term of endearment for Annabeth which is in the next episode. Campers at Camp Half-Blood do see their godly parents on occasion. Usually when the camp takes a field trip to Olympus which typically happen on the Winter and Summer solstice. So Clarisse sees her dad maybe once or twice a year (if the gods aren’t busy). The animal on Ares’ shield is a boar. I don’t actually know if there’s a drastic difference between hogs and boars, I think the only discernible difference is boars have tusks. Boars are very dangerous and extremely viscous when provoked, making them the perfect symbol for Ares. Most gods have animals that represent them, it was a way for soothsayers to determine the will of the gods in ancient times. i was waiting for this! i’ll answer a couple questions as i watch! the nereid in the water told percy to go to santa monica, it just wasn’t revealed until this episode. no the chair wasn’t a test meant for them, it was intended to trap ares or aphrodite. hephaestus (the man there with them) is married to aphrodite but she’s cheating with ares, and the theme park is where they’ve met up. hephaestus set the chair trap to catch one of them when they come back for the shield. ares of course gets the trio to do it instead, knowing one wouldn’t come back. hephaestus only lets percy go because he is moved by annabeths words, otherwise percy would have stayed there. loved your reaction!

Stydia is the PERFECT comparison for Percabeth. The manic energy of Stiles, would have made Dylan O'Brien (when he was much younger) THE perfect Percy Jackson (except for his eyes being brown). He's even used as a fancast in youtube percabeth edits. And Honestly, give her blonde hair and Holland could have played a convincing Annabeth. I was hoping the Percy Jackson would have a little of that Teen Wolf special sauce in it... the blend of magical mystery adventure, kids in danger, and whimsical and frankly sometimes inappropriate comedy, all set to a trendy MTV playlist instead of a forgettable TV score. Seaweed brain is indeed straight from the books, and is the fandom’s favorite nickname. I agree with you, Leah Sava Jeffreys did an absolutely amazing job portraying Annabeth. For all the downright hate targeted towards her for not looking like book Annabeth, and all the accusations hurled that she was just a diversity pick, Leah proved exactly why the author chose her. Because she is a dam good actor who can show the depth of emotion and attitude that makes Annabeth who she is. Tangents aside, this episode deviated a bit from the books. The trap in the book is instead a host of mechanical spiders trying to ensnare the trio and keep. Rick has since issued an IOU for creepy crawly spiders in the future. The golden throne is pulled from mythology, but was never in the books. Nor did Hephaestus ever actually arrive. But it was worth it for Annabeth’s character development and seeing her move a god into releasing her friend. And speaking of: Hephaestus is the crippled blacksmith god, and is played by the legendary Timothy Omundson, who unfortunately suffered a stroke several years ago. That cane on screen is a fancy recreation of the one he walks with IRL. What also wasn’t in the books was Grover staying with Ares. The books were written from Percy’s POV, and didn’t really give us scenes without him as a result. But seeing Grover get to manipulate Ares and do things on his own was very nice.

to answer your question from 2:16 ish, afaik the three old knitting ladies are the moirai/fates from greek mythology. the first is clotho, who spins the thread of human life, the next is lachesis, who measures out the span of the life, and last is atropos who ends the life of mortals by cutting their threads (note: this is a very simple explanation off the top of my head i may have gotten stuff wrong). so their appearance is a little ominous :) edit: oh wait i forgot the episode explains it lmao
i have been coming to your channel daily to check if this video was out, also i was really hoping to see your reaction to when ares explained how kronos and zeus fought, it's a shame you cut that part. By the way this episode is like 80% original only about 20%from the book as this is all only 1 chapter in the book. This episode is really great even though it is not from the book. Also Annabeth calling Percy "Seaweed Braim" and Percy calling Annabeth something you will see hear next episode is like a very common thing in the book and exclusive to them.

8:10 If you've forgotten: The 'mist' covers up any demigod irregularity. Also the HBC is a _summer_ camp, and that's where and when they assume these kids are. They go voluntarily anyways, it's not like the camp kidnaps them lol. Their parents know and sometimes picks them up (bc the camp has a bus to take the ones going home). Of course there are kids like Annabeth, who are all year rounders who presumably doesn't have a home outside camp - that or they're children of powerful gods, like Percy, and therefore attract more monsters coz they have a stronger scent than a low tier gods' kids.
Seaweed Brain is Annabeth's nickname for Percy throughout the books while he goes with Wise Girl for her. It's also the start of their flirting. If this show continues, one thing that you'll learn is that poor Percy is MASSIVLY oblivious when people fall for him. The way you compared Percabeth to Stydia, i swear i just died. Like I've been in the PJO fandom since i was like 8 and Teen Wolf since i was 13. And Percabeth was my first ever OTP (still my top) and I will die on the Stydia hill, so you just connected my 2 worlds and I love you for that.
So with hephestus chair, it was only him who could deactivate it. What they said just kind of resonated with him. After all his story kind of sucks. When he was born he wasnt beautiful like other gods, so his mother Hera threw him off mount olympus to hide the shame. This act crippled him, which is why he walks with a cane. And he was then raised by nymphs who found him, and when he grew up he made them beautiful things to show his appreciation. When hera saw the beautiful things he made only then did she come back and allow him on olympus. Cause he had use. So he related to the whole this family is messed thing and let them go
What I find sad is I think Hephestus was trying to catch Percy for Zeus to prove he is useful. He thought he caught the thief. But after hearing from Annabeth a daughter of Athena that he isn't like that and to let him go. He deduces he was wrong. Ares mentions all of Zeus' kids are looking for the bolt.
Yeah Hephaestus is generally a good guy, one of the few really good gods in general alongside Hermes, Apollo and Artemis. He has a big oops in Book 3, but that one wasn't technically his fault either. Hephaestus just isn't good with people in general because they tend to reject him because of his appearance so he doesn't take much time to get to know them really. He's better with machines than with people, but he helps Percy and Annabeth in Book 4 and after Percy ends up on Ogygia after blowing up Mount Saint Helens (long story), Hephaestus helps to give him the motivation to go home. Where Percy arrives just in time to crash his own funeral!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Oh that will never STOP being funny!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hephaestus is the first indication that maybe not all of the gods are these cold, distant beings that they seem to be. Some of them are, for sure. But some are like Hephaestus and don't really want to be like that, but they've sorta forgotten how not to be that way.
parents of demigods would say their kid is at summer camp if they just stay for the summer, or come up with other explanations if they're year-round campers, like saying they're at boarding school, living with their other parent, etc!

AAAHHHHHH EPISODE FIVEEEEEE Tidbits/thoughts/answers! - Camp Half-Blood is typically a summer camp, so parents usually tell people that their kids are just away for the summer. Some campers do stay year round though, if they have nowhere else to go or are too powerful not to constantly attract monsters outside of camp. The reasoning in those cases kind of vary depending on what the kid's mortal family is like. I'd imagine some might say they went to live with their other biological parent in another state or, unfortunately, the kid might not have many people to leave behind and they just kinda...vanish without anyone to look for them. - MEGAMIND REFERENCE YESSSSSSS - The Waterland scene was very, very different in the books. According to Rick (the author), the way the book scene was written wasn't able to be translated to screen for technical reasons, which I'll get into. So, in the show, Annabeth hypothesizes that Ares left his shield at Hephaestus' park during a date with Aphrodite, but it's left unconfirmed if that's the case -- especially since the shield looks very purposely placed where it is. In the book, Waterland is a normal abandoned amusement park built by mortals, but Ares and Aphrodite did still actually go there on a date. Hephaestus wanted to catch his wife cheating on him and humiliate her, so he set a trap on the Thrill Ride o' Love to trap them and catch in on cameras that would stream it live back to Olympus. Ares and Aphrodite high-tailed it out of there when they saw Hephaestus' initial on the ride, unintentionally leaving Ares' shield behind. When Percy picks up the shield, it triggers a massive wave of robotic spiders that shoot golden threads across all potential exists to the ride and start attacking them (this is the part that wasn't possible on tv -- there was no way they could create that many tiny spiders using CGI or practical effects and make it look good with their budget). Annabeth and Percy use their combined strengths to leap out of the ride at the last possible second with the shield and Grover catches them mid-air thanks to the flying shoes (no collateral Grover plot in the books either). There's strengths to both versions of this story -- obviously, the show version is way more emotional and involves character development for Annabeth. But the book version introduced some new character building stuff for Annabeth that won't be brought up til later in the show, and it emphasized Percabeth working well as a duo for the first time too. Ares also comes off slightly different between the two versions -- I feel like Ares feels a lot more antagonistic in this version since he sent these kids believing one of them would die, whereas in the books he's more of a meathead who rather let some innocent twelve-year-olds get humiliated than himself. Different versions of the same dish, if you will. - "Thanks for the emotional abuse and the cheeseburgers" has to be one of THE best quotes from this whole show oh my gods. It's been weeks and I'm still cackling
I don't know if you really want me to tell you all my thoughts on this episode. I have read the books and I don't want to spoil anything for you. There are a couple of things that are playing out a little differently than the books and other things that are different than the books. So I don't want to really say anything because I don't want to run the risk of spoiling something. I do kinda wish that they left in the fact that they also met Aphrodite. That's all I'll say about that. I really hope that you will read the books at some point. If you like this series then you'll love the books.
In the book, Percy sees the thread cutting on his way home from school despite Grover trying to keep him from not seeing it. In this case, it DOES mean that someone is going to die, but it actually turns out not to be Percy's thread. It was a prediction more than anything, of the future death of someone whose destiny is intertwined with Percy's by the Great Prophecy. It comes true in Book 5 at which point Percy finally realizes what the Fates had been trying to tell him.
(Trigger warning for alcoholism and Abuse) Something to make you hate Gabe even more is that this is actually a more watered down version as his original character was considered to be to upsetting for children to watch ( I believe that was the reasoning they gave or something similar at least), But the Gabe in the Books was an gambler and potential alcoholic who was verbally abusive to sally and physically abusive to sally and it’s implied to Percy as well. In the first book ( which season one is based on) there’s a scene in I believe chapter 3 where Percy mentions Gabe expecting him to provide his Gambling funds and he says “ He called that our ‘Guy secret’ meaning if I told my mom, he’d punch my lights out.” And then towards the end of the book he sees Gabe raise his hand as Sally flinches and he realizes that Gabe had been abusing her. It’s also explained if you wandering why Sally is with him. I don’t remember if they mention it in the show but in the books Grover explains to Percy that demigods have a smell that attracts monsters (as mentioned in the show) and that Sally had married Gabe because he smelled so bad ( they call him “Smelly Gabe”) that his scent covered up Percy’s own, he even tells Percy that Gabe smells so bad that he can still smell him on Percy even though Percy hasn’t been near him in a week.
The Percabeth fandom got a little annoyed when a BTS photo published by the Percy Series Insta account showed that the shot of Annabeth hugging Percy did not show that Percy actually hugged Annabeth back at 2:38 🥰
They don’t really cover it up when a camper goes to camp, usually they only go for summer and their families know about it. Percy has different circumstances since he’s a forbidden child and Sally essentially had him hidden from the godly world the best she could. She also, of course, never told Gabe about Percy since he’s a knob.

(I already apologize if i make some errors but english is not my first language lol) in the book Gabe is A LOT more abusive towards Percy, like when Percy comes home at the start, in the book Sally isn't home so there's just Gabe and he asks Percy to give him money to play poker and Percy says that Gabe called it their guy's secret and that if Percy tried to tell his mother, he would beat him. Sooo another reason to hate Gabe.
Bit of a spoiler, but the show hasn’t really included this lmao so I’m gonna rant. Many show watchers have asked why the Greek Gods have shown up in America after so long, the truth is they never really left. Apparently in the books, Demigods have essentially been responsible for progressing civilisation as a whole and are supposedly why “Greek Civilisation” ergo “The West” is so dominant irl. Like, many historical figures were Demigods in the book canon. George Washington was a child of Athena, Amelia Earhart was a daughter of Zeus, Houdini was a child of Hecate, Goddess of magic etc. The arch, and even the Statue of Liberty were also designed by children of Athena, with Lady Liberty being modelled off the goddess herself. 😂 Like, it’s explained that the Gods basically move with the heart of the West, first from Greece to Rome, Then Germany and France, then Britain and currently the United States. That’s the reason why Mt. Olympus is on top of the Empire State Building, and why the Underworld is in Los Angeles. Several wars were caused by the Gods too, showing how much jerks they are. It’s not mentioned in the show, but the World Wars were also caused by the Gods to an extent. Bit of a MAJOR BOOK SPOILER here. But the American Civil War was also caused by Greek Demigods fighting for control over the American continent with ANOTHER ENTIRE PANTHEON.

I’ve thought it for so long and there was so much more I wanted to say! Both of their empathy towards Percy and how they see the best in him is so beautiful. the god annabeth talked to was hephaestus, he’s like one of the few gods that actually understands what demigods feel like because he was rejected by his own mother, the chair thing wasn’t a test, that’s the way it’s supposed to be but he was moved by annabeth’s words and reversed the curse to save percy

@@WeCouldBeHeroesDesigns in greek mythology, one of the versions said that the chair was a gift from hephaestus to his mother hera (that’s why you can see peacocks on each side of the chair, that’s hera sacred animal) but in reality it was a trap. He wanted revenge because she cast him off of mount olympus basically because hephaestus has a limp and it wasn’t beautiful as the other gods, the thing it’s that hera sat in the chair and no one was able to free her, not any of the other gods so zeus promise hephaestus anything if he let hera go and that’s how he got married to aphrodite, he’s the only one that can reverse the chair trap and he did it for percy because of annabeth’s words
@@WeCouldBeHeroesDesigns I actually have a theory for why Hephestus almost just leaves Percy there. Ares said all of Zeus' children are being sent to hunt for the bolt. Zeus thinks Percy has it. So how does the god of craftmenship catch the thief. Leave another godly item for them to try and take and then he gets the glory of getting revenge for Zues. That is why he almost dismisses Annabeth so fast. He thinks he caught the thief and gave justice for Olympus being disrespected. But Annabeth changes his mind, by telling him the truth. Percy isn't like that. He isn't the thief.

Fun Fact: When we hear Percy's inner thoughts about Ares. He says that he feels this aura that makes him want to fight, to be angry. And that looking at Ares reminds him of everyone who has ever wronged him. That he sees in Ares eyes that he wants to fill Percy with so much anger that Percy wants to hurt someone. And also explains why he tells Ares off at the end of the episode. In the episode they try to still give us a hint that it's possible with Annabeth telling Grover to be careful around Ares, "don't let him get to you, don't let him get in your head."

camp half blood is basically just like summer camp! some people only stay for the summer and they return to their normal lives in the mortal world (and then return to camp next summer). but some kids, especially with powerful goldy parents, stay all year round.
OHHHH! I was thinking demigods weren’t safe in the mortal world so they had to stay at the camp forever. So most of the demigods still live in their mortal world homes for most of the year? That makes a lot more sense that they don’t just disappear completely

One fate spins the thread. One measures the thread. And one cuts the thread.
So if you were meant to live to 90, the one who measures the thread would measure it to whatever length means 90, or however many years you have left till 90, and Atropos cuts the thread at that point, setting your lifespan.

They actually changed the Tunnel of Love scene for the show. In the books, mechanical spiders came out of the walls and Annabeth has Arachnophobia due to Mommy Dearest transforming Arachne into a giant spider, just she did with Medusa. Getting out of that required Percy's first really concious use of his powers and some fancy flying by Grover. No appearance by Hephaestus or giant golden throne.

Once a Demigod gets to Camp, the Camp doesn't do much to protect them from the outside world. Like, while they're in the Camp, they're protected, but outside, they don't do anything--no Men in Black style memory wipes, nothing.
I think that if they didn't figure out Hephaestus's little "trap", yes, they would've simply been trapped there afraid for the rest of their lives.
Also, Hephaestus's trap counted them as they came in, and since Hephaestus was in the park the whole time watching, that's a big reason why the boats may be pre-prepped for them.
Also, also, your reaction to Seaweed Brain was very on par with the rest of ours. That is, like, one of the most memorable things in the books and to hear it was one of the best, most exciting feelings. As @TBoring said below, Percy has a "matching" nickname for Annabeth that he uses next episode and its so exciting!

Question: what movie do you think Percy and Annabeth would watch first?? I first saw this question on X after watching this episode, and I think it's a REALLY interesting question. For some reason, I think that Disney's Hercules would be high on the list because they'd both be able to dissect its accuracy and maybe laugh at it if it's bad. I also feel like Pitch Perfect could very plausibly be the move because Anna Kendrick's Becca is SO Percabeth coded.
Oh that’s interesting, I figured the demigods had some kind of magical force field around them to protect them in the human world. Hephaestus waiting for people to come to the trap explains why the boats were still moving! “Seaweed brain” is a super weird and random but adorable nickname lol and I can’t wait to hear his name for her! The chair trap was likely intended for Ares and Aphrodite. It would show how selfish the other is; Aphrodite would never sacrifice herself for Ares, and Ares would try and force her into the chair. And if neither tried to get it back, then he would forever have Ares's shield as a trophy to taunt Ares.

Because I like dispensing information (and being a bit of a know it all) here is some answers to your questions:
Seaweed Brain is in the books. It’s initially an insult but very quickly becomes a term of endearment. Percy also has a term of endearment for Annabeth which is in the next episode.
Campers at Camp Half-Blood do see their godly parents on occasion. Usually when the camp takes a field trip to Olympus which typically happen on the Winter and Summer solstice. So Clarisse sees her dad maybe once or twice a year (if the gods aren’t busy).
The animal on Ares’ shield is a boar. I don’t actually know if there’s a drastic difference between hogs and boars, I think the only discernible difference is boars have tusks. Boars are very dangerous and extremely viscous when provoked, making them the perfect symbol for Ares. Most gods have animals that represent them, it was a way for soothsayers to determine the will of the gods in ancient times.

i was waiting for this! i’ll answer a couple questions as i watch! the nereid in the water told percy to go to santa monica, it just wasn’t revealed until this episode. no the chair wasn’t a test meant for them, it was intended to trap ares or aphrodite. hephaestus (the man there with them) is married to aphrodite but she’s cheating with ares, and the theme park is where they’ve met up. hephaestus set the chair trap to catch one of them when they come back for the shield. ares of course gets the trio to do it instead, knowing one wouldn’t come back. hephaestus only lets percy go because he is moved by annabeths words, otherwise percy would have stayed there. loved your reaction!

Stydia is the PERFECT comparison for Percabeth. The manic energy of Stiles, would have made Dylan O'Brien (when he was much younger) THE perfect Percy Jackson (except for his eyes being brown). He's even used as a fancast in youtube percabeth edits. And Honestly, give her blonde hair and Holland could have played a convincing Annabeth. I was hoping the Percy Jackson would have a little of that Teen Wolf special sauce in it... the blend of magical mystery adventure, kids in danger, and whimsical and frankly sometimes inappropriate comedy, all set to a trendy MTV playlist instead of a forgettable TV score. I feel like the PJO series could step it up a notch or two in the script writing and creative departments.

I agree with you, Leah Sava Jeffreys did an absolutely amazing job portraying Annabeth. For all the downright hate targeted towards her for not looking like book Annabeth, and all the accusations hurled that she was just a diversity pick, Leah proved exactly why the author chose her. Because she is a dam good actor who can show the depth of emotion and attitude that makes Annabeth who she is.
Tangents aside, this episode deviated a bit from the books. The trap in the book is instead a host of mechanical spiders trying to ensnare the trio and keep. Rick has since issued an IOU for creepy crawly spiders in the future.
The golden throne is pulled from mythology, but was never in the books. Nor did Hephaestus ever actually arrive. But it was worth it for Annabeth’s character development and seeing her move a god into releasing her friend. And speaking of:
Hephaestus is the crippled blacksmith god, and is played by the legendary Timothy Omundson, who unfortunately suffered a stroke several years ago. That cane on screen is a fancy recreation of the one he walks with IRL.
What also wasn’t in the books was Grover staying with Ares. The books were written from Percy’s POV, and didn’t really give us scenes without him as a result. But seeing Grover get to manipulate Ares and do things on his own was very nice.

to answer your question from 2:16 ish, afaik the three old knitting ladies are the moirai/fates from greek mythology. the first is clotho, who spins the thread of human life, the next is lachesis, who measures out the span of the life, and last is atropos who ends the life of mortals by cutting their threads (note: this is a very simple explanation off the top of my head i may have gotten stuff wrong). so their appearance is a little ominous :)

i have been coming to your channel daily to check if this video was out, also i was really hoping to see your reaction to when ares explained how kronos and zeus fought, it's a shame you cut that part. By the way this episode is like 80% original only about 20%from the book as this is all only 1 chapter in the book. This episode is really great even though it is not from the book. Of course there are kids like Annabeth, who are all year rounders who presumably doesn't have a home outside camp - that or they're children of powerful gods, like Percy, and therefore attract more monsters coz they have a stronger scent than a low tier gods' kids.

The way you compared Percabeth to Stydia, i swear i just died. Like I've been in the PJO fandom since i was like 8 and Teen Wolf since i was 13. And Percabeth was my first ever OTP (still my top) and I will die on the Stydia hill, so you just connected my 2 worlds and I love you for that.

So with hephestus chair, it was only him who could deactivate it. What they said just kind of resonated with him. After all his story kind of sucks. When he was born he wasnt beautiful like other gods, so his mother Hera threw him off mount olympus to hide the shame. This act crippled him, which is why he walks with a cane. And he was then raised by nymphs who found him, and when he grew up he made them beautiful things to show his appreciation. When hera saw the beautiful things he made only then did she come back and allow him on olympus. Cause he had use. So he related to the whole this family is messed thing and let them go
What I find sad is I think Hephestus was trying to catch Percy for Zeus to prove he is useful. He thought he caught the thief. But after hearing from Annabeth a daughter of Athena that he isn't like that and to let him go. He deduces he was wrong. Ares mentions all of Zeus' kids are looking for the bolt.
Yeah Hephaestus is generally a good guy, one of the few really good gods in general alongside Hermes, Apollo and Artemis. He has a big oops in Book 3, but that one wasn't technically his fault either. Hephaestus just isn't good with people in general because they tend to reject him because of his appearance so he doesn't take much time to get to know them really. He's better with machines than with people, but he helps Percy and Annabeth in Book 4 and after Percy ends up on Ogygia after blowing up Mount Saint Helens (long story), Hephaestus helps to give him the motivation to go home. Where Percy arrives just in time to crash his own funeral!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Oh that will never STOP being funny!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hephaestus is the first indication that maybe not all of the gods are these cold, distant beings that they seem to be. Some of them are, for sure. But some are like Hephaestus and don't really want to be like that, but they've sorta forgotten how not to be that way.
parents of demigods would say their kid is at summer camp if they just stay for the summer, or come up with other explanations if they're year-round campers, like saying they're at boarding school, living with their other parent, etc!

Tidbits/thoughts/answers!
- Camp Half-Blood is typically a summer camp, so parents usually tell people that their kids are just away for the summer. Some campers do stay year round though, if they have nowhere else to go or are too powerful not to constantly attract monsters outside of camp. The reasoning in those cases kind of vary depending on what the kid's mortal family is like. I'd imagine some might say they went to live with their other biological parent in another state or, unfortunately, the kid might not have many people to leave behind and they just kinda...vanish without anyone to look for them.
- MEGAMIND REFERENCE YESSSSSSS
- The Waterland scene was very, very different in the books. According to Rick (the author), the way the book scene was written wasn't able to be translated to screen for technical reasons, which I'll get into. So, in the show, Annabeth hypothesizes that Ares left his shield at Hephaestus' park during a date with Aphrodite, but it's left unconfirmed if that's the case -- especially since the shield looks very purposely placed where it is. In the book, Waterland is a normal abandoned amusement park built by mortals, but Ares and Aphrodite did still actually go there on a date. Hephaestus wanted to catch his wife cheating on him and humiliate her, so he set a trap on the Thrill Ride o' Love to trap them and catch in on cameras that would stream it live back to Olympus. Ares and Aphrodite high-tailed it out of there when they saw Hephaestus' initial on the ride, unintentionally leaving Ares' shield behind. When Percy picks up the shield, it triggers a massive wave of robotic spiders that shoot golden threads across all potential exists to the ride and start attacking them (this is the part that wasn't possible on tv -- there was no way they could create that many tiny spiders using CGI or practical effects and make it look good with their budget). Annabeth and Percy use their combined strengths to leap out of the ride at the last possible second with the shield and Grover catches them mid-air thanks to the flying shoes (no collateral Grover plot in the books either). There's strengths to both versions of this story -- obviously, the show version is way more emotional and involves character development for Annabeth. But the book version introduced some new character building stuff for Annabeth that won't be brought up til later in the show, and it emphasized Percabeth working well as a duo for the first time too. Ares also comes off slightly different between the two versions -- I feel like Ares feels a lot more antagonistic in this version since he sent these kids believing one of them would die, whereas in the books he's more of a meathead who rather let some innocent twelve-year-olds get humiliated than himself. Different versions of the same dish, if you will.
- "Thanks for the emotional abuse and the cheeseburgers" has to be one of THE best quotes from this whole show oh my gods. It's been weeks and I'm still cackling
I don't know if you really want me to tell you all my thoughts on this episode. I have read the books and I don't want to spoil anything for you. There are a couple of things that are playing out a little differently than the books and other things that are different than the books. So I don't want to really say anything because I don't want to run the risk of spoiling something. I do kinda wish that they left in the fact that they also met Aphrodite. That's all I'll say about that. I really hope that you will read the books at some point. If you like this series then you'll love the books.
In the book, Percy sees the thread cutting on his way home from school despite Grover trying to keep him from not seeing it. In this case, it DOES mean that someone is going to die, but it actually turns out not to be Percy's thread. It was a prediction more than anything, of the future death of someone whose destiny is intertwined with Percy's by the Great Prophecy. It comes true in Book 5 at which point Percy finally realizes what the Fates had been trying to tell him.

Something to make you hate Gabe even more is that this is actually a more watered down version as his original character was considered to be to upsetting for children to watch ( I believe that was the reasoning they gave or something similar at least), But the Gabe in the Books was an gambler and potential alcoholic who was verbally abusive to sally and physically abusive to sally and it’s implied to Percy as well. In the first book ( which season one is based on) there’s a scene in I believe chapter 3 where Percy mentions Gabe expecting him to provide his Gambling funds and he says “ He called that our ‘Guy secret’ meaning if I told my mom, he’d punch my lights out.” And then towards the end of the book he sees Gabe raise his hand as Sally flinches and he realizes that Gabe had been abusing her.
It’s also explained if you wandering why Sally is with him. I don’t remember if they mention it in the show but in the books Grover explains to Percy that demigods have a smell that attracts monsters (as mentioned in the show) and that Sally had married Gabe because he smelled so bad ( they call him “Smelly Gabe”) that his scent covered up Percy’s own, he even tells Percy that Gabe smells so bad that he can still smell him on Percy even though Percy hasn’t been near him in a week.
The Percabeth fandom got a little annoyed when a BTS photo published by the Percy Series Insta account showed that the shot of Annabeth hugging Percy did not show that Percy actually hugged Annabeth back at 2:38 🥰
They don’t really cover it up when a camper goes to camp, usually they only go for summer and their families know about it. Percy has different circumstances since he’s a forbidden child and Sally essentially had him hidden from the godly world the best she could. She also, of course, never told Gabe about Percy since he’s a knob.

(I already apologize if i make some errors but english is not my first language lol) in the book Gabe is A LOT more abusive towards Percy, like when Percy comes home at the start, in the book Sally isn't home so there's just Gabe and he asks Percy to give him money to play poker and Percy says that Gabe called it their guy's secret and that if Percy tried to tell his mother, he would beat him. Sooo another reason to hate Gabe.

Bit of a spoiler, but the show hasn’t really included this lmao so I’m gonna rant. Many show watchers have asked why the Greek Gods have shown up in America after so long, the truth is they never really left.
Apparently in the books, Demigods have essentially been responsible for progressing civilisation as a whole and are supposedly why “Greek Civilisation” ergo “The West” is so dominant irl. Like, many historical figures were Demigods in the book canon. George Washington was a child of Athena, Amelia Earhart was a daughter of Zeus, Houdini was a child of Hecate, Goddess of magic etc. The arch, and even the Statue of Liberty were also designed by children of Athena, with Lady Liberty being modelled off the goddess herself.
😂 Like, it’s explained that the Gods basically move with the heart of the West, first from Greece to Rome, Then Germany and France, then Britain and currently the United States. That’s the reason why Mt. Olympus is on top of the Empire State Building, and why the Underworld is in Los Angeles. Several wars were caused by the Gods too, showing how much jerks they are. It’s not mentioned in the show, but the World Wars were also caused by the Gods to an extent.
Bit of a MAJOR BOOK SPOILER here. But the American Civil War was also caused by Greek Demigods fighting for control over the American continent with ANOTHER ENTIRE PANTHEON.
