      I’m so glad you noticed it. It’s so far from places like the supermarket and school, you really give up a lot to work here. It’s a beautiful spot to enjoy hot springs but I can imagine hard to live. To do a 5 star classy job too says so much about the ryokan’s culture here.

      @@nunodeazevedo The AI TH-cam uses is rather old tech by AI standards, and you really have to "game" it to get it to suit your tastes. Even then, when they change something you might need to start again (a bit.) Make sure to tell TH-cam AI that you are not interested in a video, or even not to recommend a channel if you know it's content you will NEVER like. Liking and disliking videos helps as well.

    • @onlyinjapan
      @onlyinjapan  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      None. I think the younger generation want to do other things and that generation is less than a century ago. I cut out parts about Kawano-san’s own family. I think if they don’t want to continue, it’s easy ti understand why. He spends so much time here. Far away from them - it’s a hard thing for people in the 21st century to live in what is like the 18th century location in some ways. No supermarkets. No stores. NO SCHOOLS, the commute is quite far I believe. There used to be one in the village I showed the drone shots at the end but it’s been abandoned and taken over by another business I believe. I did a live stream with Kanae and Leo walking through it over a month ago.

      A taxi would cost some money but if you’re staying more than a night, it’s not a bad investment to relax. It’s better that it’s far from the station, it means there are less people and those who make the trip are rewarded with its awesomeness!

    • @onlyinjapan
      @onlyinjapan  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      52 generations of the same families. The business has evolved to meet demands of the time over time, which is why they’re still in business. The structure, the cave - is still there. The weather source, is still there (weaker which is why they needed a new one in 2005) but the top bath is all from the original source and the 1F bath is mixed. This is what I learned but it wasn’t so relevant to the story. Heck all water sources underground are probably ancient, geothermal hearted. On another note, 5km is a 1200 year old tree. It’s on Google maps. I cut that scene, but it is a remarkable stop to me. The tree has “seen” a lot, people passing it by including Tokugawa Ieyasu.

    John, I have been following your channel for years! You never fail to highlight Japan in a way that makes the county and its people, relatable but really providing a feeling of connection to others. From different prefectures, towns, cities, islands and history. I have learned so much. I wish the new owner continued success and I hope to one day visit his Ryokan.

      Thank you so much for watching for so long! I really loved making this and everything I put up - Japan is so awesome as a home (for 25 years) 🏡 and I’m glad we can share it together here ٩(^‿^)۶

      @@onlyinjapanhey John I’m also a long time follower of your channel. I served as a marine in Okinawa for 3 years and I would absolutely love seeing you do a bunch of videos on the ryukyu islands if possible. Thank you 🙏
