This is pretty old technology (binaural audio) but nice to see it’s getting adopted.
It’s more of a SURROUND SYSTEM
Binaural literally means "having or relating to two ears." Binaural hearing, along with frequency cues, lets humans and other animals determine the direction and origin of sounds. So yes, hearing in stereo is VERY old technology.
Logic it has been built in to the channel strip for years just click the panpot choose binaural pan and double click the Panpot to reveal the 3D panner which also includes nice Doppler button too for added effect.. I have used this in music production for years (psychedelic trance and sound design) and I find it adds a lot of 3D depth and opens a whole new Avenue for working with and placing elements within a 3D soundfield which is then combined with a normal stereo mix.. and the 3D aspect still works very well playing from stereo speakers / PA. I tend to keep all the elements in front of the listener so it works well for both headphones and stereo playback (with stereo speakers it won’t ever sound like it’s coming from behind you) cheers for the tip off as usual mate I will check it out :)
Hey Alex. In my opinion from what I can hear mixing in binaural really changes the sounds and negatively affects everything to the point where I’ve always gone back to stereo however I’m Dolby atmos mode the binaural panning sounds amazing when monitoring and eventually rendering in binaural mode.
Danny Kirsch I find that having most of the mix in stereo and then adding binaural elements works really well
@@alexdiplock71 I’m going to give they a go Alex although from what I remember the binaural tracks go mess with the sound which isn’t so when monitoring in atmos binaural mode.
The binaural panner doesn’t give you scalability like Atmos does. Atmos itself can figure out how to translate your object based mix on anything from mono to 30+ speakers
BØLT no for sure but for years it’s been the easiest way to access binaural 3D mixing for stereo, not atmos or out to speaker array of course, but now that’s all built in anyway. :) now if they can just add Doppler to it I would be diving headlong into it 😂

It certainly adds a little more life and energy to music compared to standard LR. But also it has less definition i think.
Overall i think i like it though.

It’s not really their answer to Dolby Atmos, as it works alongside Atmos (using Apple Spatial Audio to play a Dolby Atmos mix on headphones for example). Spatial Audio also works great with a stereo mix (feels like you’re listening on a good pair of speakers in a room).
Also with AirPods 3/Pro/Max you have optional head tracking added to the technology, meaning when you turn your head the sound is panned around you, like in VR.

@@Heartbeatzofficial Equivalent to M/S processing... in terms of "revolutionary technique". It's an additional tool for adding realism to sounds - psychoacoustic effect. Of course it can be used creatively. Imagine you're playing a video game and a bullet passes near your character's head (the sound now is 3D and you can get a more immersive experience due to the sound effect) . Similarly, the same effect of the sound passing from the front to the back (like the bullet did), imagine you apply this to a reverb return signal and with each transient, trigger the doppler effect with an envelope. Someone will understand I guess.
This would work really well for ambient music
Most hit albums and movies are mixed in Dolby Atmos already. Apple Spatial Audio is just one way to experience Atmos.

It’s amazing for movies, but with music it kinda removes some clarity and makes it sounds like you’re listening to the song on really loud speakers in like a bedroom

TH-cam will be flooded with more info when this scenario gets ported to our DAWs and whatnot. We're most likely goin' to get a new panning interface. I imagine an XY plane or two? Somethings along these lines - Panoramic manipulation. DNB will benefit from this. Tech and Neuro will reach another level, the mindfcuk will be more intense. I bet my everything. I can hear it already in the club swirling and phasing inside and backwards and into the hypothalamus! :P

Binaural panning is part of Logic X. You can automate it too. Just tested it a few days ago. Works great.

Quadraphonic is obsolete.

No matter what you'll always have 2 ears. So in the end it's still stereo.
You only have 2 ears but you know when a sound is coming from behind or in front of you. The brain processes the two signals and you can hear in 3D. Same thing applies with this technology.
