HOW TO EXTRACT IMAGES FROM A MRI DICOM DISK

  • Whether you need to extract the images so you view them on a phone or tablet, or whether you want to extract the images so you can add them to Trial Director or TrialPad, the first step is getting the images off the disk and onto your laptop.
Then, use a DICOM viewer to open the images. Frequently, a DICOM viewer will be included with the disk you get in discovery. But, even if it does, I still prefer to use Onis Viewer 2.5. AND IT'S FREE.
    www.onis-viewer.com/ProductInf...
Once the images are open, you'll need to extract them, a process that Onis Viewer makes incredibly simply compared to many of the other DICOM viewers I've used.
Once extracted, I then go an additional step and combine the jpegs of each series into a single PDF.
This process makes handling and viewing the images incredibly easy, but make sure you watch the full video to the end where I discuss the caveats and cases where you might want to bring a laptop with the Onis Viewer on it to the courtroom with you.
If you have any questions, feel free to drop a comment. I'll try to answer them the best I can.

Just want to say, thank you!!!! I was literally sitting down about to cry from frustration! We my daughter suggested to google it. Your video came up. I was suppose to send my daughter MRI to her dr. Through a link, we live hours away, I can’t just drop it off. I was expecting to see pictures in the files. thank you again!!!

I just wanted to say thank you! I was diagnosed with something at the hospital and I needed the images of the MRI to send to the hospital to authorize the surgery. The doctor was super nice and gave me a cd right away so I wouldn’t have to go through any trouble and could do everything fast. I was freaking out thinking how I was gonna make this work, decided to google it and your video saved my life. Thank you!

As soon as I heard "the attorney," I knew that the purpose of extracting the images were for a potential lawsuit (much like why I need to extract images from my mom's adrenal CT scan). I strongly believe that they should have treated it as cancer, which is why I'm seeking a second opinion. Thanks for your help!

Thanks for the walk through! The software bundled with these imaging disks look like they were developed in the 90s (and probably were). The viewer you were using in the video was a great upgrade from what was available on the disk. I was able to export the images within a few minutes after downloading.

Thanks a lot. My mom wanted me to access her X-ray photos but she told me it was used by a Mac. After searching Apple photo converters with no success I searched how to view X-ray photos on PC. This was very helpful and it works! My computer warned me about the program I was downloading but I took the risk and just ignored it.

My job is convert dicom files to 3d models, I receive this dcm from a client where all the slices were at the position 0 and none of my softwares was able to make the convertion. So I import the dcm file to Onis and without making any change on the images I export the same file with the same format and now it WORKS. thanks alot for the video and now on I'll keep an eye at that company.

Having my 1st experience with MRI, my knee being scanned on a GE Signa Optima. The cd-rom given to me (the patient) included on it 'cdviewer.exe' and a sub-folder named 'A'. Inside of folder 'A' was the full set of images. They merely did not contain any file name extension. I merely copied all of those files to a hard drive, and added the '*.dcm' extension. This note is only for GE produced cd-roms. Other MRI vendors will have other sub folder names.

This was insanely easy to comprehend and completely understand the software fundamentals. I have 0 medical experience and I'm trying to read my own mri report for no other reason than the clinic my report was sent to basically told me, don't bug us about it, we'll call you whenever we get to it, felt very dismissive for health care provider but I digress. This report is time sensitive to my employer and myself. If you have any hacks to help interpret or confirm my range of motion prognosis I would be eternally grateful
