    68 years young and from the Detroit area. Bobo Brazil was the real deal. I saw him wrestle all the top guys. He got unreal pop back then, and deservedly so. Great performer, great man.

    What a great old bout this was! Ya see, I'll be 63 next month and grew up watching guys like Bobo, Ox Baker, The Mighty Igor and countless others in the late 60's through the mid 70's and never once did I know that Bono and Ric met. Heck at the time i hadnt yet heard of the nature boy, I thought he didn't start till longer after Bobo was done. This must have been one of Ric's earliest bouts. This is the first time i saw this one and enjoyed all of it

      Bobo BrazilAugust 18, 1962House showNewark, NJ173-Brazil refused the title because of a groin injury that Buddy Rogers had claimed to have. However, on September 6, 1962, Brazil was declared champion because a doctor had determined that Rogers had not suffered an injury. This title change was not recognized by the NWA.

      Bobo was pretty much a huge draw wherever he went. I would think his best drawing would be in the midwest and NE with the large ethnic concentration and the large number of factory workers with income to see him perform.

    This match was held on June 11, 1977, in the Greensboro Coliseum. Flair's belt is the last version of the Mid-Atlantic TV title belt, which would later be used as the first NWA TV title belt. This was the first of three main events that night. In the others, Dino Bravo beat Blackjack Mulligan in a Texas Death Match (Mulligan's U.S. title was not at stake) and Greg Valentine defeated Wahoo McDaniel for the Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight Championship.

  • @ccie12933
    @ccie12933 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Bobo would win the Crockett Promotions U.S. titile from Blackjack Mulligan a month aftet this match (with a little help from special ref George Scott) and would lose it to Flair in Richmond three weeks later (Flair's first U.S. title reign).

    Bobo was a true athlete and I never liked wrestlers like flair because they only won if they cheated or were supposed to win. Bobo was also very strong and was about the only one to give Andre the Giant a match.

    The belt Flair has is the NWA TV title belt. Edit: At the time of this match it was the Mid-Atlantic TV title belt. When Baron Von Raschke won a fictitous tourney for the NWA World TV title, they used the same belt to represent tha title.

    I remember first time I saw BoBo Brazil. It was on Big Time wrestling in Detroit in the late 1960's early 1970's. He had a fued with the Original Sheik (Ed Farhat Sabu's Uncle) They would wrestle a few times at Cobo Arena in Detroit & the Sheik always threw fire in his face or would stab him with a pencil.

    Is there an insider term for the silly jive dance that all blacks were required to perform during interviews and high spots. I haven't seen it performed in recent generations but almost all except the great Ernie Ladd would make such a performance. Although, if truth be told, I always got a laugh out of the spots where a white man would perform a headbutt on a black man and the ill effect would boomerang and knock out the white man. Harley race would do it best when headbutting Bobo Brazil.
