    I run a c85 stroker. The 1946 c140 had straight pipes also.not as long as the vetterman, but I still would like to see some before and after dyno numbers on that motor

    • @johnkluenker
      @johnkluenker  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Nice! That C85 is an awesome STOL engine for turning a long prop. I should add the dyno report chart to the video. Was recently on a dyno. The report showed 130 HP at 2828 RPM and it was still putting out as much as 125 HP all the way down at 2400 I believe. Pretty good for an O-200!!

  • @SailingSVPipedream

    Does the 0-200 have the step between carb and manifold? The A65 has a 42mm carb, the manifold is 45mm for 8mm and then steps down to 38mm… not sure why as it seems messy. I know 0-320s with an 0-360 sump had to have a cone installed to stop rough running.

      The venturi is different and the jets, I heard the c85, c85, c90, and o-200 have different venturi and jet combinations to allow for the rpm changes to produce the power...

    Did the vetterman come without the mufflers or did you remove them yourself? Just looking on their website and the pictures look like they have them installed.

    • @johnkluenker
      @johnkluenker  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can order the exhaust with the mufflers, but I went with straight pipes. Mufflers rob power and the straight pipes sound awesome! 😆

      Both of those come with the Vetterman Exhaust. They are shrouds that go around the pipes.

      I did have an oil cooler before the overhaul. You need that with the high compression pistons.

    Doesn't higher compression reduce the life of the engine?

    • @johnkluenker
      @johnkluenker  ปีที่แล้ว

      It can. I just went with 9:1 compression. Some guys go all the way up to 10:1.

    Did this require a prop change to absorb the extra power?

    • @johnkluenker

      No. The prop that I have is rated for 150 hp. 👍🏻

    • @sblack48
      @sblack48 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@johnkluenker and you flew it when the engine developed 120 hp? You can’t use the same prop on both a 120hp and a 150hp engine. It will either be too much load at high power or not enough at low power

      It’s a quick-adjust ground adjustable prop, so I can decrease the pitch to have the engine wind up to a higher RPM.

    I like everything you said, until you got to eliminating mufflers and potential cabin heating. I don't like to be noisy and cold.

    • @johnkluenker
      @johnkluenker  ปีที่แล้ว

      Since I fly out of Northern California, I realized that I almost never turned on cabin heat. And I can always dress for the cold. As far as the sound, I love that with the O-200 it has more of a hot rod sound versus the Rotax. It’s fun to let it sing!

      @@johnkluenker I live on the Central Coast of CA and I frequently use the cabin heat in my Mooney in the fall, winter and spring. The sound issue isn't about quality but volume; I'm 68 and I have already lost some hearing. I want to keep what I have left.

      At the time of the video I had not gotten it on the dyno yet. Since then, it has been on the dyno and is putting out 97 hp at 2415 RPM, 126 hp at 2785 RPM, and 130 hp at 2828 RPM. Pretty impressive for a little O-200! maybe I will release a new version of the video with a screenshot of the dyno report.

      Since my aircraft is experimental, I can do that work myself. Regardless, I have an A&P that double checks my work.
