Kirk was a superb player when he was on form - its very sad that he never realised his full potential due to his drug and alcohol problems - Im sure he reflects on that himself from time to time all these years later
lol, dude in the audience smoking. I remember players would smoke and drink alcohol but I didn't remember audience members smoking. I wonder if he was planted their by B&H? Also, the audience were all dressed smartly and no stupid ghostly blue light bathing them.
I attended the Masters on a regular basis for years starting in this very event in 1984. The audience could smoke in the 80s, I'm not sure when the smoking ban came in, but the comfy seats they had in the arena had ashtrays on the arm rests. I always remember that one used to come out of the arena smelling of smoke after watching the snooker. As for the dress, it is true that when the final was played they always had the penguins in their dress suits sitting at the front, some probably knew nothing about snooker. There was however no dress code and I went there 22 years running and wore jeans, trainers.
I think I will always remember Kirk Stevens because of that white attire he wore back there
