    Rip Bela Lugosi. Great actor and one of the kings of horror movies. Bela Jr is about to turn 87 years old in January and is still keeping his father's legacy alive. Thanks for posting this.

    Bela, Jr. is extraordinarily handsome (I saw him I think on the old Mike Douglas Show back in the early 1960s). So was his father extremely handsome. I have seen photographs of him taken when he was very young on the stage in Hungary, and he looked a lot like Rudolph Valentino, and you can't get much better than that!

    Dracula was filmed 90 years ago, and how wonderful that Bela Lugosi’s son is here to connect us between the decades.

    Bela Lugosi was a wonderful actor who was greatly underrated and underappreciated as an actor. He was absolutely superb as Bela the gypsy fortune teller in "The Wolfman" (1941) and of course as Dracula in the title role in the classic 1931 film. It is a joy watching Lugosi as Igor in "Son Of Frankenstein" (1939) and "Ghost Of Frankenstein" which was made in either 1942 or 1943.

      Arguably the best part of The Wolfman.

    • @viktoriaironpride4977
      @viktoriaironpride4977 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Bela as "Bela the fortune teller" in the Wolf Man had only about 37 words of dialogue, but it was a wonderfully understated performance ("I will not disappoint you, my lady.")

      @@one_with_kevrything9825 . You are right that that brief scene in "The Wolfman" (1941) in which Lugosi plays Bela the gypsy fortune teller could be legitimately considered the best moment in the film from an acting standpoint. But the scene towards the end of the film in which Talbot tells Gwen in the antique shop that he is leaving Llanwelley is an equally superb scene! I love the moment when Evelyn Ankers as Gwen Conliffe for a brief moment forgets her next line of dialogue and by doing so, inadvertantly created a beautiful, dramatic pause and then she says, "I've still got the charm you gave me!" and Chaney Jr. as Larry Talbot responds, "Yeah, yeah I know but I'm afraid"! Great, great moment in an all-time classic movie!

    As did I, Bela Jr. attended Dorsey High School, where he was known as "Bill". Although I remember him as usually
    being called, " Lugosi". He was just one of the guys, although there was no mistaking his heritage. I remember always thinking of Dracula whenever I saw Bill. At the time, Dorsey High had several child actors and actresses in attendance, but none with as famous a parent. The closest I came in future years was an amateur musical-comedy group where I became type cast as, "Igor" in Frankenstein paradies. That nickname is still with me.

    One of the most telling moments in the Jenny "fortune telling" sequence in "The Wolf Man" was the moment when Bela the fortune teller grasps the bunch of wolfsbane and sweeps it off the table, then puts his hand to his forehead as if the noxious (to him) plant has given him something like a headache--a very understated gesture, but we know what it means ( I checked into getting some wolfsbane to plant in my yard, but found I could not do this because wolfsbane is toxic--and not only to werewolves!)

    if you want to know more about Bela Lugosi and Boris Karloff, check out the podcast You Must Remember this. Go to episode 115. This is the start of a 5 part series about Lugosi and Karloff. The first episode kind of introduction. The 2nd episode is about Bela and the 3rd about Karloff which I haven't listened to yet. There are 145 episode of You must remember this. It is narrated by Karina Longworth. She takes some breaks between series. She is on a pretty long break right now. If you love stories about Hollywood this is a great podcast. And if you didn't know Junior's mother was quite younger the Bela Senior.

    The man was beyond iconic and extremely handsome. He did love his time playing Dracula in the theater, but it’s heartbreaking to learn he never did the films he really wanted to do and that he died poor. His son looks just like him, especially from the side angle when he turns his head to look at the pic of his dad, and he’s superiorly brilliant and realistic. It’s abhorrent this guy who interviews him is absolutely Generically not concerned or realistically into what Bella has to say. It ticks me off how he just responds with generic wording since he isn’t even listening to him.

    Nothing for nothing but with all due respect this interviewer made an error when it came to discussing Bela Lugosi as the Frankenstein monster.
    It's more than likely he meant to say it was in "Frankenstein Meets the Wolfman" when Bela Sr. played the role of the monster instead of " Ghost of Frankenstein" since it was Lon Chaney who portrayed it although Lugosi dubbed Ygor's voice once the monster now had his brain. 🤚😐
