Wow, this mascot went through several transformations with personality and look. Almost as if the marketers had no direction in how they really wanted to pitch the bear. Glad they settled on the cool smooth version with Golden Crisp. At least they were more consistent
Fun fact- they almost went with a neurotic, Woody Allen like bear who sues all the people who took his Super Sugar Crisp, even though he gets beaten up by them.

Why in the world does he have to turn into Super Bear? In his first commercials Sugar Bear picks up an iron fence, puts it up against Granny's tower, climbs it like a ladder, bends iron bars, busts down stone walls, and bikes through space. He's already the most powerful force known to man, and Marketing decided he needed to be buff?

Apparently, Post was capitalizing on the success of TV's "The Incredible Hulk" at the time marketing decided to change Sugar
Bear into Super Bear. That was idea was unnecessary.

I had a vague memory of the "super bear" and thought I dreamt it when they started running the sarcastic sugar bear. Apparently sarcastic, humming sugar bear actually was first before they tried the super hero angle in the early 80s.

The sunburst box design ran from 1983-1984.
The "solid gold" box design first came out in mid-1984, and at first was used to tie in with the Solid Gold TV series sweepstakes, where one could win a stereo system and a trip to Hollywood to go see the Solid Gold dancers! It was permanently adopted by the time the name of the cereal changed from Super Sugar Crisp to Super Golden Crisp.
Whoa, the 80's were a crazy decade for this mascot.

And once you watch them over and over again, you don't really need to see them to understand what's going on, and you can just listen to them while you're doing something and it's really nice.

I can't believe you mentioned that! We had it recorded on VHS when it aired on TV. The only commercial I can recall is the one with python in the tree 8:41. I know that one by heart.

And part 2 of the triple trouble commercial with a vitamin packed punch he grabs and uses the snake to tie up the crocodile and tiger and swings away on vines saying the jingle I can't get enough Super Golden Crisp it's got the crunch with punch. "Yeah!" said the beaten trio.

Glad to see I am not the only one that did not like "Super" Bear. As a kid he creeped me out. I was glad when they went back to Sugar Bear. The plush Sugar Bear give away was surprisingly well made.
I must have blotted him out of my memory. I remember the product as "Super Sugar Crisp", but not the Super Bear commercials. Then again, they coincided with what was arguably the worst time in history for cartoons.
They still call it Sugar Crisp up in Canada.
