Anybody else into mosaics?! I see those tiles and the ideas start coming! Having lost our home to fire last year, we are just moving back into it which has included sifting thru all the "stuff" damaged by the fire and deciding what bits and pieces were saveable and what we wanted to do with them.

SB mowing just featured a wheelbarrow that you might want. It has 2 front wheels and has an electric motor for power drive. With your hills, it would really help you. And when we did our garage against a hill, we used a product called battle drain to protect the block walls.

That was scary how easily that stone wall came down, so pleased you Drew, Terry and Mario didnt get hurt. Fingers crossed for the propagation of the fig tree. The colours on the stone are gorgeous. The tiles were lovely too and you could make mosaic pictures and paths with them. Oh bless you Brittany when you were so worried about the walls having to come down, it shows how much you love this place. Have the cats been inside the new house you made for them yet? x

Oh my! At first, I was afraid that you had "opened up a can of worms" but it's all making a lot of sense! This really needed to be fixed properly to prevent more problems in the future! If you have some left over rocks from rebuilding that area again, maybe you can utilize them for starting a larger pond up near the mill. There may be some wonderful midnight swims in your future! I am so excited with all your accomplishments! My prayers continue for you both along with my love and gentle hugs.....from Donna in Florida 🥰.

I just found your channel today, so I’m binge watching to get caught up. Ppl probably have told you this(re:terraces weed control & building gardens) but you can start a no till garden space, killing weeds & prepping soil by either spreading out black landscaping roll over the space or cut the grass very low(leaving clippings, adding more veggie scraps)then spreading cardboard over the area. Top that with a deep layer of wood chips & leaves then just let it compost naturally. That’s how we put in new beds without digging. I did several layers of fresh clippings/food scraps then cardboard topped it with thick wood chips & leaves in the early Fall. In Spring we topped it with compost, composted manure & top soil. Planted it. Then again filled it with leaves over winter. This year it’s extremely productive. Took a portion of our lawn, made a small terrace, used some old fence posts to surround it. It’s full of worms doing all the work. It’s a “build it & let nature do the work” garden plan.

So, this is super random but at 27:04, I noticed something white on Baby's "rear end" that looked like a grain of rice, which is indicative of worms, or intestinal parasites in cats. I know they're outside kitties and you may already have noticed something going on, but you may want to get them checked out by a vet. Outside kitties are more susceptible to parasites. I have 3 kitties of my own and have grown up with outside cats living in the country and we still treated them for fleas, ticks and worms every year just to help keep them happy and healthy. Hopefully at the very least, my comment will bring it to your attention, and you can check more closely. It could have also been nothing at all! I enjoy watching your videos of the mill each week and I love the new stationary life the two of you are creating there! All the best!

@@Mrandmrsadventure I like all natural also! But, you need a Vet to give them the Medicine...a.s.a.p.
(The worms may be causing more damage if they are not getting enough nutrition and over eating)
Then...after the worms are gone, give them a dose ( once a week / month? IDK) of the more natural stuff, to keep the worms from coming back.

Youve also got soursobs (what we call them in South Australia.
They look so nice when they flower but are another pain in the neck weed that grows everywhere.
To get rid of them you have to make sure you dig up all the bulbs that somehow seem to stay.
Even if you try to poison them, the buggers still leave the small bulbs!!
You seem to have a lot of things from wgere I live.
FIG TREES - I love figs but what have grown at my place now - if you have leaves and no fruit its likely you wont ever get any fruit at all.
I woukdnt even try to reposition it elsewhere.
Id start from scratch and plant it exactly where you want after finding out a good spot.
My mother used to make fig jam all the time and add almonds to it but someone (I wonder who LOL - ME!) used to dig out all the almonds.
A tip with almond trees I somehow found out about when I was young - around Christmas time when the skin is still green, break one open and youll see the WHITE skin that eventually turns brown later on.
At this stage if you look inside the white skin, youll see it likely just jelly.
DO NOT EAT THIS BECAUSE ITS POISONOUS AT THOS STAGE.
Keep checking until the white skin is still white but the contents are now solid white!
    Here comes the yummy part...
Get as many as you can while the almond is still in this state - outer shell still green and the inner white skin still white but the inside is white and solid...
You can easily squeeze the inner white bit out!
Get a fry pan on the stove and add some oil.
When hot, toss in the hard white part and slightly brown then remove.
    Sprinkle it lightly with pepper!
One word of warning - dont eat them all at once like I used to do.
    Theyre so tasty.
I think if you buy them in the shops they call tgem Devilled Almonds bit they would have to blanch the almond with the browned skin before getting to where I was 'months before'.
Good to put in christmas cakes as well.
Again I reckon Id completely cut out that fig tree if you never saw any figs the last season.
I had 2 here the 'just grew' but I never ever got any fruit at all.
Im still battling to get some of the dead root out even from 20yrs ago believe it or not.
My daughter now 41 - when she was young and saw fig trees elsewhere with the fruit on, she called it 'upside down fruit'! LOL.
Id loved to have grown a loquat tree but never did.
We pronounce it here as 'Lokat'! My girlfriends place had one and we used to play in it while also eating the fruit.
Its going to be heavy work for a long while yet before yiu think you have finished but it will really be worthwhile.
When you think you have finished one of you will dream up something else you want to do.
I wish you all the best with this venture and cant wait to see what this place turns out to look like - besides being something beautiful!

Drainage is my thing. Steps ...
    A. French Drain: (1) small bed of crushed stone (2) landscape fabric with excess flaps to wrap next two steps (3) bed of crushed stone upon which to lay the perforated pipe (4) cover the pipe fully with crushed stone and then wrap the pipe / stone with the fabric ... like making a burrito (5) cover with a healthy layer of crushed stone. Next ...
    B. Gutter Run-off System: (1) install gutters as needed (2) connect to a non-perforated pipe laid on top of the French drain (3) run this drain pipe "to daylight" well away from the foundation (4) add crushed stone to cover pipe (5) then back fill with materials to support your choice of landascaping.
It is key to have both types of drainage pipes. Foundation flooding is mostly caused by gutter drainage issues rather than water table seepage. The French Drain deals with the seepage and any over-flow issues from blocked or over-whelmed gutters in the rainy season.
Good luck. All the best !

    The progress is unbelievable.
Britney, I sincerely hope that you kept a collection of blue and yellow tiles. You can do an amazing splashback behind your stove/cooking top...uniquely Mr & Mrs Adventure 😉
Fill it up, way less expensive than retaining walls and no more hidden bad surprises 😅
    Greetings from 🇿🇦💙

I'd get out the big guns, level the entire section. Then add all those features to the other side of your house. Dig in, add the septic under your little driveway patio there. This would make it easier to get up that hill, too. Then, you'd be able to lessen the grade. Just a thought. Use the stones to build up your stream by the house and expand your ponds. You could also rebuild, the walls a little too have an outdoor patio, with pergola, still do the pump house but put the septic other side of you can.

All the work will be worth it. I think those tiles are like a chest of treasure. I have used tiles to put on clay pots for plants and even some that I still use in the bathroom to hold my toilet plunger and wash brush. But, they can be used for mosaic table tops or tray inlaws, or even stuck in the cement as you put things back. Just make sure it's porcelain tile as it does not freeze and crack. I hope you Pinterest more ideas and make this Phoenix rise from the ashes ( or rubble) with some beautiful adornments!

Beautiful stone work on the back walls of the pig house. Why are you thinking the fig tree needs to come out? They only grow 10 - 30 feet, so it seems to be a nice location for it.

I'd put them up above. Further from the house a bit. I would clean up the cement slab below and take all that tile and make an art Deco patio. Sweet sitting area with potted flowers

I had a friend that had a company called smashing tiles in NYC. You may be able to repurpose some of those tiles and create some interesting art projects. Basically she smashed up tiles and then attached them to vases, mirrors and frames and just about anything else you could think of. Was actually a pretty successful company in the early '90s. Maybe you can repurpose some of these tiles that you have discovered laying around your property

wow look at your views on 2 hours. I got the notice at 6:oo am but it was so cozy in my warm bed couldn't face the day just yet. Fortifying that wall is key for future rainy seasons and any potential landslides. It the best decision in the long run. OXOXO

Would it be possible to shift some budget into getting that tricky part of your road cobbled? You'd then be able to move the van up and down it with confidence and utilise your property to the fullest. ☺

Great progress. I don't think the tar paper is sufficient for your project. You need a proper drainage wrap which looks like a giant roll of lego. Possibly removing and replacing the tar paper with a neoprene or torch down sheeting before. Its not a job you want to do twice so maybe some professional advise for a second opinion. Look forward to seeing the next stages. 😃😃

You definitely took on a huge undertaking, but the property and location is beautiful and secluded. I believe that possibly the rules and laws in Portugal didn't allow for detail accessing of that piece of land. Would you have still taken this project on had you anticipated all the work?
