My mother used to collect cream and sugar sets that she saw in thrift stores that she thought were pretty. We had a glass sugar bowl in the kitchen that we used for probably 20 years, that I inherited. It broke, but I was very fortunate to find one exactly like it at the second hand store, so it is now in the kitchen cabinet.
Isn’t it fun to pull out vintage tableware And talk about the the memories that go with them. I just love to see your vintage collection. Always brightens my day.
'Was it LSD "😂 I love Ralph. ❤️ Beautiful collection of cream and sugar bowls.. I have quite a collection from my and my Husbands grandmothers, they are so charming...
I was born in 1956 and remember getting the polio vaccine sugar cube. I have the Sunbeam coffee pot with matching cream & sugar. Matches the toaster, too!
Polio booster vaccine was placed on sugar cubes. I clearly remember entering the school gym and getting in line for mine. Once again, you have brought back those forgotten memories. Stay strong, stay safe!
My mom (b. 1933) never made coffee at home. My grandmother (b. 1910), however, had a stove-top percolator. I remember how awesome the brewing coffee smelled at her house. She never let me taste it, though. Her husband drank and smoked unfiltered Pall Malls. I loved the way he smelled too. Maybe tobacco had fewer toxins in it then. I can’t abide the smell of cigarettes now. 🚬 But I loooove a good cup of coffee. ☕️
Hi hereforit - it's hard to imagine now, but I remember the smell of cigarettes, cigars and the occasional pipe everywhere growing up. Like you, now it bothers me. Thanks!
My mom had multiple sets of cream and sugar service. She carefully chose which one to use based on the occasion or amount of people. I have kept a couple, but there were just too many to keep. It was great to see your collection!
Hi John - sounds like you mom liked to entertain! It's nice that you kept a couple of her sets. There were so many different styles of these made over the years. Thanks!
My grandmother had a Blue Ridge sugar bowl but no creamer. That thing was used and used and miraculously never broken. I have it now with a set of the same pattern and I use one similar to it as my everyday sugar bowl. My other grandmother used a Mt. Clemens Mildred pattern sugar bowl and I have that too and her other dishes. They came from SH Kress. That glass sugar and creamer on the tray you called hobnail is called Candlewick by Imperial. Thanks for showing all your sets and thanks to Ralph for the lol for the day--LSD.
Hi Jonathan! Sounds like you have some nice sugar bowls. We didn't have Kress stores here in Michigan, but had lots of Kresges, Woolworths, Neisner Bros. and a few others. Wasn't that a funny one from Ralph! Thanks!
Hi Kev!!! Wow now this was my kinda segment! I am also a HUUUUGE coffee drinker… I always have a pot of coffee on at my house. As a matter of fact it’s the first thing I do after I take my shoes off when I walk in the door is make a pot of coffee! And as far as cream and sugar sets, well, I have almost as many as you… I love collecting them they are some of my favorite collectibles I always use and rotate them out several times throughout the year so I can use them all 🥰🥰The pattern that I grew up with was anchor hocking Wexford pattern… Not sure if you’re familiar with that but it’s very similar to your anchor hocking set… just slightly different and almost a crystal type pattern. I had to giggle when you were talking about the sugar cubes also… I also find them very fancy… We do have them at the grocery store locally here once in a while and if I see them I always pick them up and yes they are fun to use… And I’m sure someone has already answered your question on the thread… but (being a pharmacist)… The sugar cube was given to you in school with the polio vaccine! 🥰🥰 this was such a treat Kevin… So glad you and Ralph are doing well say HI to him for me… Hugs!!!! Jeff xo
Hi Jeff! It's great that you collect cream/sugar sets!! I do know the Wexford pattern, and I don't know if I have a set in that pattern, but I think I have a couple of other pieces in Wexford. I like how you rotate them out so you get a chance to use them! Yes, a number of people reminded me that it was the polio vaccine in the sugar cube - since you're a pharmacist it is now confirmed!! :-) Glad you enjoyed the episode!
Kevin, Whenever you pop -up on my You tube, i have to stop what i'm doing..... ...and watch you. I found my mother - in - laws silver sugar tongs yesterday ! Wow i purchased the cubes for a reason xxx Love you and all that you do
my grandmother had a set in sterling silver with matching tongs for the sugar cubes. huge matching tray with Coffee pot that tilted on four divets with a warming candle
Hi Mark! Wow - that sounds very elegant! I loved how pieces for entertaining went from sterling silver down to dime store pressed glass and everything in between! Thanks!
We have the matching sets for our various CoffeeMasters, and the Sunbeam Maxwell Braeton? set. Others like Pyrex, Mel Mac, Christmas Spode. In daily use is the sugar bowl to our mid century Royal China Celeste pattern, a knock off of Fiesta Starburst. I have the milk, and creamer too, but I use CoffeMate straight out of the giant plastic tub. We get C&H sugar cubes for the hubby's old fashions.
Hi Longhairbear! I thought you would probably have all the Sunbeam cream/sugar sets! Such a classic design with the CoffeeMaster. I drink a fair amount of coffee, but take it black so I don't get to use my sets for myself, but enjoy putting them out for company. Love the C&H sugar cubes when I can find them here in Michigan. Thanks!
So glad you enjoy the channel! We love what we do here but I guess it doesn't have mass appeal so the channel doesn't get promoted much. That's OK - this way it allows me to respond to all the great people who watch and comment - like you! Thanks so much!
The set with the gold accents looks very familiar to me. I’m sure it was part of my childhood. Don’t know which family member may have owned it. Love these reviews! A trip down memory lane!
Late to the show here, but when you were naming off the name brands of coffee, I remember my Mom buying Chock Full O Nuts coffee & now I’ve got the jingle stuck in my head, remember Kevin and Ralph 🎶🎵”...better coffee a millionaire money can’t buy.”🎵🎶
We lived in Canada for almost 30 years and sugar cubes were served at our church after funerals with coffee and hot tea along with sandwiches, pickles, and plates of assorted squares for a meal for family and friends.
I have sugar tongs to match my silver pattern. Perfect for those sugar cubes. A friend of mine who was a cake decorator piped on blue or pink baby booties on sugar cubes for baby showers.
They still make sugar cubes but they're a little pricey. Ounce for ounce they're about six or seven times more expensive than a 4lb bag of sugar. I grew up in an area of the US where C&H Sugar was the dominant brand. C&H sugar cubes were everywhere when I was a kid. That company (California & Hawaii Sugar) still makes small 1lb boxes of sugar cubes for about $3 today. The packaging hasn't really changed much in more than 60 years.
Hi RD M! I have seen C&H sugar but it's not common here in Michigan. Sugar beets are a big crop here and there is quite a bit of beet sugar produced in Michigan, so we have Domino for cane sugar and Pioneer or Big Chief for beet sugar. I've heard that C&H is very good sugar and I'm glad to know they are still making sugar cubes! Thanks!
Oh, I remember getting the sabin/polio vaccine in a sugar cube at a grand old church in Pasadena. What an impression that made on me. Another great video guys!
Hi Jason! I'll do a vintage coffee pot/percolator episode at some point. I might break it down into a few: perk, drip, vacuum. I have a few in each style. Thanks!
Fabulous segment! A total joy to watch!!My cousins had cream & sugar sets. We didn't. When I moved away from home, I began collecting. I've managed to collect about 15 sets. I use them from time to time. Pls do a segment on salt & pepper shakers!
I am looking for a vintage tea and coffee service, but I am thinking of going silver plate. Glass would be nice too. I haven’t decided. I love the sets with the little trays. ☕️ I hope it’s still easy to find sugar cubes at the grocery store.
Just got done reading the comments.. how cool. My sugar vaccine was given on Belle Isle in Detroit,,also my family used sugar cubes to put in champagne in a beautiful flute glass & remember little rock sugar candy on a stick with a knob at the one end of a stick? You could stir your tea or coffee with them. They used to sell at Teva tea store but they were bought out buy Star Buck's.. I'll half to find them. At good Italian restaurant they still may use them . that's where I learn about them.thank you for listening ❤️🙏
What a wonderful video. I love cream and sugar sets and many of the large stores still sell them in a variety of patterns. I have a porcelain cow creamer that is one of my favourite pieces. Many of the manufacturer's of demerara and other raw sugars will sell them in a cube form. Not only does it add a touch of class, but the flavour is also fantastic.
Thanks so much, Chris! Your cow creamer sounds fun. And there is just something about a sugar cube instead of granulated sugar that seems so much more special!
Hi John! That ceramic set has been a favorite. I think I found it at an estate sale years ago. Cavalcade isn't open to the public, so I enjoy sharing the collection through these videos. Thanks!
Very cool collection of creamer and sugars. I recently got a Sunbeam tall percolator I think circa 1960. I'll have to see if I can find the creamer and sugar that match with that etched 6 pattern.
Hi Scooter! Enjoy that tall Sunbeam perk - they make great coffee! Sunbeam made matching cream/sugar sets for their CoffeeMaster series, but not sure if they made them for the later models. Thanks!
There's still sugar cubes, I used to get them just to be fancy schmancy for my daughter when she was little. Yeah lol werent they the epitome of "class" in the 60's 🤭😏. I bought & sold lots of sugar & creamer sets - they are so cute.

Hi Ms Howell! Those pastel colors came into fashion in the mid 50's and were available into the 60's and then were replaced by earth tones like avocado, harvest gold, etc. I only have one pink stove and I think I have a pink hand mixer and that's about all. Pastel yellow, blue/turquoise were also available colors during that period. These colored appliances are hard to find nowadays. Thanks!
