    It seems that everyone has their own personal favorite tomato for taste. My personal favorite is Boxcar Willie, an old classic heirloom. It’s also good to remember that tomato flavor can be affected by environmental factors like weather, soil, etc.

      We base ours on our great well water, clean rain, same soil year after year. Savor the flavor

      @ We've grown Box car Willie before...i wasn't happy with how much space they took up in my garden and the low count per plant. I was on the hunt for 15 years for the best all around mater. Look...sweet tomato taste...not to much goo..not mealy...prolific...blight resistant..shelf life..early to late harvest. Over the years we have settled on a hand full of winners that fit
      all those criteria.

    I grow the black cherry variety, they are a deep purple just like they are shown in catalog, you must have gotten a mixed up package. The black cherries are delicious and very prolific. The worst were the yellow teardrop looking tomatoes, no taste at all. Pink cherries are also a great cherry variety.

    I am definitely going to try planting Kumato seeds next year...that is the only store bought tomato i have ever been happy with. It seems like it must be a hybrid but if you have had great luck growing it's seeds, i will go for it too!!! Thanks for the great vid!!!

      Sorry I didn't save many seeds last years. Just enough for ourselves. Our lives have gotten to busy. You can buy kumoto tomatoes at your grocer....take out the seeds and dry them.

    Didnt taste the Berkeley because of how they looked? Shop tomatoes look perfect! Berkeley tie dye is one of my favorites. Unfortunately, I didnt realize there are several and I dont know which was the one I liked.

      riverstun we did tried them earlier before this video was filmed that's why he didn't want to try them again. Try growing a kumoto tomato get them at the grocery store comes in a pack of 4 brown tomatoes save the seeds and grow your own. Ours are heirloom now that this is our six year of growing from our own kept seeds and it remained the same.

    Why show tomatoes that you don't plan on tasting? It shouldn't matter if it's cat faced or what, just what it tastes like.

    • @TrixieM712
      @TrixieM712  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Here's the answer...ready for it?...The Berkley as Fred said rotted eagerly so he had no interest in doing a review in tasting, that's why he said he'll add them to the sauce. You may like the appearance of a cat faced tomato, we do not. We were on the continual search for the best all around tomato to grow year after year. Got it?

    Kumato are really nice tomatoes. My local grocery has been selling them here in February. Nice to see a few heirlooms for sale. In spite of limited space, we’re going to try some “winter sowing” of seeds in juice jugs and see how they do. Our last frost date is April 15th. Happy gardening! 🍅

      All of his tomatoes are an odd off color. I wonder if it's a bad camera/editing or if something is weird with his soil or sunlight conditions that cause odd colors on the tomatoes.
