When I was a kid in the 80's, I was traveling with my grandmother in Pennsylvania, and we stopped at a highway (turnpike) rest stop, and we pulled up next to a bright red AMG hammer sedan. I was very exited to see one in person, as I had only read about it in car magazines. These cars look so much better in person. I'm so glad that they are getting the attention they deserve. Thank you.
The 180 this channel has done with how they are now telling stories is just brilliant. I assume it was John's idea to shift gears with how the stories are told and the videos are now being edited. Captivating stuff for sure.
Your determination to get the cars “correct” and original is refreshing. Keep the passion going. I was not a fan of the Gemballa when they were new but have come to appreciate these tuner cars.
I'm a high up on Google reviews just left you a 5-star review because your staff and your people and you just care about everybody and you're very passionate about what you do you don't sell bulshit you don't just try to make a profit off someone your real ass dude bro keep going up bro ❤
John, you're killing it with these videos. The quality, the talent, the storytelling would NOT feel out of place in a 10 million+ subscriber channel. Keep at it, this channel is going to grow like crazy.
Mike tyson had a convertible testarossa koneig with 3 or 4 stage turbo boost knob below the shifter..wonder were that is at? I have only seen 1 RUF silver porsche down in dana point ca a fee years ago.
This was fantastic to watch. Thank you John, your passion and enthusiasm is second to none. I geek out on so many cars and my coworkers think I’m nuts.
John's broad in-depth knowledge of the many different marques/tuners is quite amazing. Obviously there are absolute experts on particular makes etc but I admire his broad knowledge and enthusiasm
I love this team's dedication to documenting, finding and curating these Hammers. Their passion for these kind of cars is infectious and it's fantastic to see such amazing cars getting the recognition they deserve. what an amazing place this is, massive respect to you all!
I can remember driving around SECs at a large MB dealership in NH when I was a "kid" in 88/89 as a lot porter. At the time I didn't understand what a "grey market" car was but I knew they were special and very quick. Ahhh..memories
What was a MB dealership dong with a grey market car ? I sold at both a franchised MB store and for a grey market importer in Houston in the 80s. The grey market guys were evil according to franchised dealers.
My mom in the early ’90s drove me to and from school in a 560 SEL AMG (grey market car), I loved that car. It got rear-ended outside KSC and was totaled. The car was grey with a blue leather interior and had chrome 5-spoke rims(similar to Hammer style of rim).
Such a great format Curated Team. Why this channel isn't at 2 million subs I know not. Regardless, it's obvious you aren't here for views or even accolades, just your pure love for these very special cars. The world would be a very very boring place without Curated in it!!❤
Apart from Richard Buxbaum, the AMG Hammer authority is Hartmut Fehyl, President of RENNtech in Florida. Hailing from Affalterbach himself, Hartmut was Technical Director of AMG North America and built the proptotype Hammer for Hans-Werner Aufrecht and most of the production Hammers as well. He is also the leading expert on tuning the AMG four-cam motor to perfection - no surprise since he built many of these when they were new. Hartmut explained to me how important getting the valve timing of the DOHC V8 right is to power and response. Having driven two Hammers - the only RHD car left in England and the AMG press car - this was very apparent. The former was off tune and the latter very much on. The difference was night and day!
I know it's not your forte John, but I'd love to see you guys spin up a JDM division, working with import JDM classics. Either spec, I just love classic Honda, Nissan, Mazda, and ofc Toyota vehicles. Lambos are my favorite of the EU cars but to see your level of detail, depth and passion applied to museum quality JDM finds outside of Japan would be super cool..til then I'll watch for the awesome Lambos, let alone the AMG and Porsche stuff! (And I guess Ferraris... Lol) keep killing it!
This is my favourite Automotive channel, as a total car nut for 40 years+ i love seeing the really rare cars that amazed me in magazines when i was young, like the Gemballa's, Lotec and Ruf CTRs etc. The icing on the cake would be if you can source a B Engineering Edonis, the car the Bugatti EB110 should have been, that would be awesome 😊
you guys are heros!! mr. amg savant and mr .t curator of all legendary exotics. to see you two actually driving that car like its supposed to be. that m117 growling.ass supported by the hands down coolest car seats ever. it makes e want a blaupunkt sqr with the gooseneck remote with the nakamichi components. i grew up with this. i still have copies of the C/D with the hammer and some bonneville salt car on the cover, gathering of eagles and R/T with the red press car. i wtched every episode of miami vice from pilot to the double length finale.i got a bunch of the hot wheels w126 sedans and matchbox 380sec amg's. regular ones, one with wheels like copact disc's and ones with real rubber tires. needless to say im an 80's tuner fanboy with of course RUF at top of the list. i got every RUF magazine articles fromU.S. mags. my whole like has been cars especially tuners. im a BB magic top lover as well as the flacbaus with 928 pop-ups. also loved Treser audi's the 4000cs lifted thing epic!! so ive got to really express my sincerest gratitude for all that you 2 gentleman do to continue to provide with with the things i still dream of and champoning the rarity and significance of these cars. the hammer is the only reason we have m5 and e63s . without people like you these cars would have never gotten this second coming that they rightly deserve. that is why you 2 are hero's to me.thank you from the bottom of my fuel tank shaped heart. cheers
I remember Robert Van Winkles (Vanilla Ice) white Gemballa convertible. I believe it was brought/ Flown in from Gemballa via The Numbered Car Company in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I bought a low mileage 1988 930/911 Turbo from them in the early 90s. Growing up in Texas it seemed to be a hotbed for the 1980s AMG imported cars. It was Rolexes (aka the Texas Timex) and AMGS. Everyone was importing grey market cars to the Houston Port as well. The good old days of a strong dollar against the Deutsch Mark. Especially Houston Tx , Grey Market imports were everywhere...always loved the SELs, SECs AMGs. My neighbor had 1984 used Black on Black 500 SEC Factory AMG (yes he was 20 yo and his dad owned an Oil Company- Tejas Oil). My dad at the same time helped me import ( I was 16 and a Jr in HS) a new red/palamino 1984 500SL for 24k landed and 4k for federalization done in Houston. Drove it for 9 months and Sold the car for a profit, which I regretted and also my dad help me to do. Looked so good and modern with the euro bumpers and the euro headlamps. Sometimes private owners of the AMGs had their cars rebadged as the 1000SELs (Euro 500SEL). The AMGs pre Mercedes in my opinion were the ultimate 80s cars ( dreamt of owning them as a kid)...also in the same group as the 80s Ferrari GTOs, bb512 etc. The DP935 Porsche with the box rockers and vents and its counterpart the DP 928 wide body were also very cool...many in Austin Tx as well.
I grew up with the German tuning industry from 1983 on and phototographed and drove almost every Gemballa car including the original yellow Extremo. I remember doing the photo shoot of this car in the Schloss Solitude, about three miles from Gemballa's then HQ in Leonberg.
There was a hammer (probably a clone) for sale recently in Madison Wisconsin. this was about a week ago. He wanted 12k on Sunday had no idea of what he had. It was debadged but under the hood was 6.0. Could of been clone but didn’t check the numbers. Never saw title by time bank opened Monday it was gone. Had a maybach hood ornament lol. Don’t know how common swaps are someone did a decent job and was in super clean condition.
Man John , miami 80's and your dad was a supercar specialist .. I bet he know some interesting characters with don't ask pocket books .. love how you are a sponge of knowledge on all these auto's . One day I may walk in your door !
Is that Diablo from prestige the one that the Towbins had in Vegas? If so, remember seeing that car in the showroom when it was brand new back in the 90's
My mistake, I could've swore that Towbin motorcars had the Prestige name in both Vegas and I believe Chicago as well. This was back when the car was new though before its first ownership. There was one here in Vegas back when new it's probably just not that one
John im telling you check out the Patina Collective. I think if im not mistaken that white sec you said your looking for i want to say they have that benz.
John, I remember the Gembella’s and Konig’s what about the Stroseks?? Any of them still around? Also I remember a twin turbo Testarossa from the states as well, I believe it was a Norwood car from a guy in Texas. Really would like to see a Strosek though. I used to drool over the DP’s, Bertones, Konigs and AMG’s back in the day. I grew up down the street from the Westmont AMG. Keep up the awesome work
Isn't it just amazing, knowing that somewhere sitting in a driveway is a 1 million dollar Hammer Wagon in that gorgeous blue just sitting, and the owner probably has no idea what its worth.
This is stunning, It's one thing to see a beautiful car. It's another to hear the history, the stories and people involved which just make the experience even more incredible. 🎉🔥🤘
Why have we still not seen the COUNTACH’S from the movie RAIN MAN?? From the shipping dock scene?! Where are those?? Or tom cruises 400i from the movie.
Besides John not wearing his seatbelt, him not having a Rokfprm or some other case on his phone irks me. Get a Rokform case. You literally can chuck your phone across the driveway and it will come out fine. Throw it against the shop doors, it's fine. I know DDE hypes them, but they do actually work as advertised. Only 32 bucks too.
Great content as usual lads. John, have you heard of Bob Norwood? Guy built a handful of very special turbo charged Ferrari back in the 80's. Well worth a look. Michael in Toronto.
When I have enough to buy my classic, unique/rare, dream car that I will drive on glorious days only. This is the store I'm looking with first for three reasons. They find or collect cars of my description, they sell quality over anything and have the means to restore any imperfections or faults, and provide value to the customer. From what I've seen and with my experience in buying vehicles past/present, I believe it is worth my time, money, and energy to buy my future dream car from Curated even though I live in British Columbia Canada. I gotta say though, my taste is expensive and I have too many #1 picks to slim down to the one and only to choose atm. Gonna be a few years. Diablo 6.0 VT is definitely a high contender.
En España el amarillo se podía conseguir por internet en 1.040.000 o algo parecido. Le han inflado el precio y más si se han hecho con los dos construidos.
I get that you're into mostly very special cars, but it would be really nice see something more classic, like a red on tan Testarossa or so :-), if I had the money that's what I'd buy. The essence of the 80's supercar, like the white Countach is.
Thank you.

thank you so much! Glad you're enjoying the new style
I think this is my favorite car channel right now. I can’t get enough of these crazy rare cool cars and the story behind them.
Not very many used car salesmen have the kind of passion that you do! Best used car channel on TH-cam, period.
Curated, one of those local used car dealerships.
Think passion and honesty go along way in a trade that has been slaughtering the genuine car people. 😎😎✌✌👌👌👍👍
@@Avrohomperl The best Buy Here Pay Here in Miami!
I'll take that as a complement haha, thanks!
Bit of a backhanded compliment??
Whenever they pan around the showroom my heartrate goes through the roof. Amazing collection of cars. Thanks for all that you do at Curated.
haha thank you!
Your determination to get the cars “correct” and original is refreshing. Keep the passion going.
I was not a fan of the Gemballa when they were new but have come to appreciate these tuner cars.
Thank you!
It is a great day when Curated uploads!! Love how the AMG turned out, so subtle like you said.
appreciate that!
This is a good start to my morning.
Thank you! This video is for the true car nerds. No fluff here. Haha
I worked for Silverstar Mercedes Benz/GMC in Westlake Village, Ca in 1987. Prepped a bunch of 190 Hammers from the era. Super trick for the time.
I'm a high up on Google reviews just left you a 5-star review because your staff and your people and you just care about everybody and you're very passionate about what you do you don't sell bulshit you don't just try to make a profit off someone your real ass dude bro keep going up bro ❤
thank you!
This channel just keeps getting better and better!
Thank you!
Thanks to you and the Patina Collective, soon there're will be no Hammer & pre-merger AMG Merks on the market 😁
John, you're killing it with these videos. The quality, the talent, the storytelling would NOT feel out of place in a 10 million+ subscriber channel. Keep at it, this channel is going to grow like crazy.
Thank you Carlos!!
Absolutely amazing to see how Curated tracks down the history of these cars. Calling sources to build the Hammer Registry is simple amazing to watch.
Love the Currated story . Congrats.
The fact that 2 of my favorite automobiles are in this episode make it even better.
Watching your hunts for the AMGs brings me back to the 80s and the excitement I felt back then,,,
I saw a beautiful Testarossa red in fort collins yesterday. One of my FAVORITE cars ever.
I dig this format of telling the stories and bringing us through the day to day operations. Cool stuff guys.

Great purchase! Can't go wrong with a 930 Turbo
You, ed, Dave from DDE have inspired me to work harder and save more for my dream Gallardo Superlagera so I can engineer a manual transmission swap
Do it!!
14:55 the white porsche did you say you did a video on this. Interested but can't find the video?
Yes, 2 years ago! The title starts with "exclusive first look"
Those tuner cars were the stuff of dreams in my high school days of the late 80’s. Excellent episode @curated
Thank you!
I love your channel ! I wish I keep all my magazines with all the articles of these cars you're talking about.
These old magazines are treasures!
I grew up with the German tuning industry from 1983 on and phototographed and drove almost every Gemballa car including the original yellow Extremo. I remember doing the photo shoot of this car in the Schloss Solitude, about three miles from Gemballa's then HQ in Leonberg.
I drove it too, on two occasions in 2002. One was in Bad Bentheim, one was in Schenefeld. I topped it 280 on the speedometer.
I love your Enthusiasm and love affair with import cars as well as tuner cars.
The patina collective has some hammers
I worked with a kid years ago who's dad had a red hammer it was a beautiful car .
You made a good point about “coach built” cars. I never thought of it in that way before but you really nailed it
John, you really need to get that watch sized. Nothing worse than a Rolex flopping around on your wrist. Quite distracting from the cars 😂
There was a hammer (probably a clone) for sale recently in Madison Wisconsin. this was about a week ago. He wanted 12k on Sunday had no idea of what he had. Haha that sounds like a unique one! Probably a clone
Song selection is absolute 🔥
all these phone calls make me feel like i am working for curated for free hahah .
Incredible content. I loved every minute of this video!
I hope you have a tremendous Grand Prix weekend!
Thank you!
Koenig man… I think the testarrosa biturbo with 1000hp has been one the sickest car ever made.
I'm curious how many Gemballa Extremo were made? Offical photo shows Black&Yellow, but there is another one in Taiwan with full carbon exterior!
This channel is so underrated.
Nothing like this channel on TH-cam
Man John , miami 80's and your dad was a supercar specialist .. I bet he know some interesting characters with don't ask pocket books .. love how you are a sponge of knowledge on all these auto's . One day I may walk in your door !
Do you have the black black widebody hammer coupe that lives in Hollywood/Beverly Hills. I've seen it a few times now.
SE30!! and love that Carrera GT in the back
Is that Diablo from prestige the one that the Towbins had in Vegas? If so, remember seeing that car in the showroom when it was brand new back in the 90's
This is a one-owner car from WV
My mistake, I could've swore that Towbin motorcars had the Prestige name in both Vegas and I believe Chicago as well. This was back when the car was new though before its first ownership. There was one here in Vegas back when new it's probably just not that one
I love the Patina Collective style of video
If looking for unique German tuners cars you should have a look at Ac Schnitzer E36 M3 CLS II. Very few made, carbon bodywork etc.
MVL Leasing in Toronto deals with a Gemballa Mirage GT. It went for $595,000 in 2012 but the owner is a regular customer.
John im telling you check out the Patina Collective. I think if im not mistaken that white sec you said your looking for i want to say they have that benz.
These cars art, really! Love from Eswatini!
What’s the magazine which showed the red hammer?
Saw the Gemballa, had to watch it... Mythical car, I've only seen it in the Fulda adverts 😮
Stay tuned for the next video!
Keep up the awesome work
That's awesome! I'm sure you got to see some cool stuff in Westmont. Definitely Stroseks around, like most of these tuner cars, just hidden
Does all 13 of the NA Hammers still exist? No wrecks or anything? I hope all 30 of the worldwide hammers are in good shape, but i doubt it
Isn't it just amazing, knowing that somewhere sitting in a driveway is a 1 million dollar Hammer Wagon in that gorgeous blue just sitting, and the owner probably has no idea what its worth.
This is stunning, It's one thing to see a beautiful car. It's another to hear the history, the stories and people involved which just make the experience even more incredible. 🎉🔥🤘
I think the ultimate “tuner” car is the Callaway Twin Turbo, since the Sledgehammer broke the speed record (254mph) in the late 80s.
the Callaways are incredible!
The registry id love to see is for the 190 Evo II
Well done intro! Cheers! ☕️
Thank you!
That AMG Hammer with Spanish licence plate from Madrid 😍😍
Why have we still not seen the COUNTACH’S from the movie RAIN MAN?? From the shipping dock scene?! Where are those?? Or tom cruises 400i from the movie.
Great Upload - GREETZ From Germany
Besides John not wearing his seatbelt, him not having a Rokfprm or some other case on his phone irks me. Get a Rokform case. You literally can chuck your phone across the driveway and it will come out fine. Throw it against the shop doors, it's fine. I know DDE hypes them, but they do actually work as advertised. Only 32 bucks too.
Great content as usual lads. John, have you heard of Bob Norwood? Guy built a handful of very special turbo charged Ferrari back in the 80's. Well worth a look. Michael in Toronto.
I just love these classic tuner cars. I’m 47 and kinda grew up loving them so I am biased…
Their innovation in the 80s was crazy!
Crazy how the most authoritative source on Hammer production is Richard Buxbaum's personal memory of events that happened 35 years ago
Luckily he's still very sharp!
great passion and research, the history lives on at Curated.
We love it!
You almost wore a seatbelt properly on this one John 😂😂😂😂
How do you move your cars around in the showroom
Can you find the Nip/Tuck blue Diablo?
Moving those cars is a problem I’d love to have ❤
Casual EB110 no one even blinks an eye at. My goodness... I would just die if I walked into this showroom.
Haha we're very lucky to be here every day!
Was the Mercedes that Patrick Swayze drove in Road house was it a AMG HAMMER
That was a non-AMG 560 SEC
that AMG IS SICKKKK
It's legendary! Understated, but an absolute beast
Which car is coming to Colorado?
When I have enough to buy my classic, unique/rare, dream car that I will drive on glorious days only. This is the store I'm looking with first for three reasons. They find or collect cars of my description, they sell quality over anything and have the means to restore any imperfections or faults, and provide value to the customer. John you gotta take a link out of that watch! Looks like it's going to slide off your wrist :-P
What a machine that Hammer is.
such a beast!
En España el amarillo se podía conseguir por internet en 1.040.000 o algo parecido. Le han inflado el precio y más si se han hecho con los dos construidos.
Any plans to focus on youngtimer special BMW’s? E.g. E36 M3 GT, E46 M3CSL, E30 Cecotto😊 I guess US is ready for this now😅 Keep pushing, great stories👍
I think the petina collective has a couple of those cars you're looking for there in Florida I'm sure you know who they are
You can't tease that Testarossa forever John!
I get that you're into mostly very special cars, but it would be really nice see something more classic, like a red on tan Testarossa or so :-), if I had the money that's what I'd buy. The essence of the 80's supercar, like the white Countach is.
The red hammer was in a shop by my house on Long Island
That’s so crazy you look up the address now and it’s a PLAY IT AGAIN SPIRTS haha lol
Haha yes, sadly
You must talk to the Patina Collective..
video coming soon!
Still nothing about the CLK 55 AMG?
HAMMER WAGON??!!!! Dream car🔥🔥🔥💯💯🚀🚀⭐️⭐️⭐️
Absolutely!
John just licking his lips hearing about the extremo lol
