It always amazes me watching American guys in their workshops; they all seem to have every tool under the sun! Good job though, I like it, am just in the middle of mounting my own anvil, and going to do something similar. Cheers for upload/ videoing it all, that must be a super hassle. 👍in the UK. p.s. Love the little gas forge!
Well done, Sir. I'm literally making the same exact setup right now. I've had all the same ideas you had -- from all the same YooToobers - lol - great minds... Like you, I've been 'building up' to this for YEARS -- like 5-6 years... gradually acquiring smithing essentials -- anvil, post vise, hammers, tongs... I have a propane forge 90% built (from a 20lb propane tank) and I just finished building a little 12'x12' smithy out back and mounted the anvil log (oaken beast) about a foot and a half in the ground. Time now to secure the anvil to 'er. I'm using my little antique no-name 80lb starter anvil and hope to get a bigger, way nicer one eventually, so I'm going to do EC's "easily de-mountable" setup with the chains that can thread down tight to steel mounts bolted onto either side, for now, so I don't put holes in the oak that don't line up for the future anvil. Have you done much smithin', yet? I know all to well how life gets in the way... I'll have to check your other vids -- keep up the good work!
Blacksmithing is so much fun, even if your homemade forge leaks gas ( fixed it ) with homemade tongs that hold your red hot steel by the tips so you have this rotating feature that everyone looks for because it shoots your work whizzng past your face and onto the dried grass all around you which wouldn't be a big deal if your gas line wasn't leaking. Oh! And even when your makeshift anvil that's impossible to mount dances around everytime your using. Even after all of this, at the end of the day when your elbows are radiating unrelenting pain at night, you can look at your work that resembles the center radiator core of late model Asian sedan that was in a head on collision at 90 mph that is with out definitive form or shape. You had a blast making a mess, because moved steel alloy with your hands and reshaped it.
Dude that's awesome! You probably already have by now but I recommend rounding over the edges of your anvil to prevent them from cutting the material and creating cold shuts. Anyway, keep up the awesome work!
@@AndrewReuter Nothing just curious. Certain jobs in your video I would use an angle grinder instead of whatever you used for cutting though. All in all a great video, and I would start to expect new videos from your smiting projects from now. Thanks.

@@AndrewReuter Before you start heating the metal, I hope you could ask the viewers what they think you should make for your first smithing project, my personal favorite would be a small knife but maybe others have better more interesting ideas. Take care too.
For anyone reading that comment, I think about my grandpa when I see things like this. There wasn’t widely available hearing protection when he was farming. So he ended up losing his hearing from loud machinery over the years. Super hard to have a conversation with the guy, which was sad, and he knew it. So he always warned us to be safe. I’m sure if he were here today he’d advise us to not worry about looking cool, instead just take care of ourselves and wear whatever safety equipment made sense. So that’s how I try to operate. 🤷♂️
