      Thanks! I hope you got something out of it. I think time will tell how well this tree develops from here.
      Its a risky operation that can be scary for someone to try so I hope this boosts some confidence for anyone looking for a solution.
      You have to weigh the risk vs reward sometimes.
      In this case I was sure NOT doing it... was settling for a less satisfying outcome.
      I hope if you encounter a similar situation you'll have more confidence to explore more options.
      Cheers!

      @MakeMoreBonsai I have wormwood mame that I took on the challenge of dramatic bending.
      I'm also working on making Shenron as a memorial piece for the loss of both my little brother and the artist who created dragon ball z.

    Is there any point in using electrical tape over raffia to retain moisture in normal applications (when the core is not removed)? When is it appropriate?

    • @MakeMoreBonsai
      @MakeMoreBonsai  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      THAT is a good question! I chose to use the rubber gasket on this one because 2/3 of the trunk was removed to make it flexible. The rubber gasket would help retain more moisture in this extreme case. I do prefer raffia because it does allow some air to circulate and eventually erodes over time. The rubber gasket does require me to remain mindful and remove it as soon as possible to prevent any rot etc.

    So much damn information, where did you learn all this stuff??

    • @MakeMoreBonsai

      I hope you are able to pick up a few things to try for yourself!
      To answer your question... everywhere and anywhere over 35 years of enjoying bonsai. I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to work at a bonsai nursery in the late 80's and have exposure to 1000's of trees to work on... and fail on... during that time. That helped.

    Wow, really cool video. Never heard of your channel before. I really like the outcome and also your narration style. Nice! Just one little thing: I think the red light is a bit distracting. Maybe you can use it to only light the background but not you and the tree?

    • @MakeMoreBonsai
      @MakeMoreBonsai  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi there! Thanks for watching... and tolerating that light... I am aware and try to be mindful of all of stuff and things that go in for the production... I am taking steps to allow more headroom for that backlight. Your comment did move that to the top of my list to fix for the next video!

    Awesome video dude! What type of fertilizer do you use? I rotate RAW NPK Grow and a liquid made by Microlife.

    • @MakeMoreBonsai
      @MakeMoreBonsai  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I use different ferts for different trees depending on what results I'm looking for. For this one in the early summer I started to give it miracle gro at 1/2 strength for a quick boost and wash out... now that its closer to fall and more growth is evident I'm switching to slow release granule becasue it seems to be fully recovered and growing.
      Thanks so much for watching!
