i don’t know if any album has ever painted such an accurate picture of how i personally experience depression. it’s not a perfect album by any means but i’m inclined to call it a 10 just for this reason
I loved nearly every second of this one. LUM's production is such an oddly rewarding mix of moods. One of the most creative genre-bending records of the year.
After his Bedwetter project and things like "Uneven Compromise", the fact that he can create a song as pretty as "Cold in Here" is insane. He's shown incredible versitility.
I still think Anthony's review of Oblivion Access is the worst review he's ever given, so I'm glad he can appreciate Travis on his new project for the way he continues to reinvent sound and how deep he gets. Amazing writer, beyond talented producer. Ugly is the GOAT fuck the rest.
The first track “Bird Enemy Car” is one of the most powerful, emotional opening songs on an album I’ve heard in a while. Makes me want to cry every time.
This album, made me miss my friends that have taken their life, or have been murdered, or overdosed. Shit choked me up and I love this album. I'm glad it was released under the ugly mane name. Tears in my eyes, and too much relatable content. Love this album
This is honestly probably my AOTY. Lil Ugly Man is one of my favorite people to happen to music over the last 10 years and this is might be his best yet.
this was the soundtrack to a very bittersweet time in my life (ex moved back in town, became homeless, i was hotel hopping with her, relapsed on benzos, crashed cars, had withdrawals she cheated on me drunk whilst i was there) songs like headboard and cold in here are such amazing tracks to have nostalgia laced with
Probably the only record this year I can safely say is my AOTY. There's minor nit-picks across a few tracks, but it's so wholey original that I can't help but love every second of it.
Fantano is a great music analyst but sometimes he hangs on technical details and thus misses the big picture. Is lil ugly mane’s voice a bit limited? Sure. Is this the factor that matters in evaluating the record, among the many major elements that make this album a clear instant classic? Hell not
@@mitchEDITS i think because he listens to so much music he brushes past a lot of gold like this. non stop listening to music where you also must concentrate on it for your job does things to your brain
if the singing took away so much he wouldnt have enjoyed most o the album he nitpicks just a few songs where he believes the limited vocals are at all a negative
I think the vocal limitations of Mane stem from emo-rap like early Lil Peep. It's definitely not a style for everyone but I think it's aesthetically valid for a depressive mood. The limited range shows such a lack of joy that the singer is failing to see the point of really projecting their self anymore. It points to introspection and self-consciousness, and I think that adds to the record's mood overall rather than some operatic climax.
I personally admire his courage for taking on a whole completely different direction and I RESPECT IT! For an artist to grow, esp as talented as Travis, he has to expand and experiment! There can only be so much MTI before it becomes stale or repetitive, and as well as his other releases. I find myself still looking at all of travis’ catalog as something as a experience, I find myself going back into to find inspiration and can relate to his transformations via each album! THE SAMPLING!!! THIS MAN IS A GOD WHEN IT COMES TO SAMPLE CHOICE!!! I definitely fucking enjoyed every part of this project, because it came at such a random time, when something new just feels RIGHT! PROPS TRAVIS!!! I HOPE YOU ARE DOING BETTER!
Came back here to see how Fantano categorizes this into genres, in the description where he usually puts genre tags, he wrote: "Look at the album cover". Perfect.
hes always ridiculously harsh on lum for no reason it's weird not that a 7 is a negative score but im talkin bout the guy who oblivion access a 5 like whats with that

Holy shit for whatever reason I decided to click on your channel, and it turns out you are the person who uploaded Zelooper's new album before anyone else did!! Thanks for doing that.
Pleasantly surprised that this album didn't just get blasted for vocals the entire review. It's definitely in my top albums of the year. Even if you don't enjoy that aspect still have to appreciate there are some banger tracks on the project.
Def respect melon's opinion on this, he doesn't particularly enjoy LUM's emotionless yet emotional singing and thinks its too long. But fuck man, this album just hits for me in all the right ways.
Many of you won’t read this but I’m honestly so proud of how far Anthony has come from having a small amount of subs to being one of the top content creators on TH-cam, always grinding, and is never afraid to say what he feels. Proud of you melon, thank you for putting me onto so many new artists
An alarm clock in your neighborhood is going to have violent, temporal diarrhea and you are going to wake up and catch your breath while in a tiddlywink factory walking up a hill to fetch a pail of digitalness.
It has a dilapidated sway to it, like the classical Musical Melodies that we listened to when we were kids only now being revisited with the dark experiences life brings. Like going back to an old home. My Full take for myself and whoever else gives a shit: This album quickly pronounces itself as (like many other LUM albums) a cycle of negativity although a striking difference is how passive and welcoming it comes off. From the first track its an introduction to a what seems to be Travis in the midst of a deep depression, the instrumentals feel like a mix of childhood ignorance/blissfulness, like memories in musical form that contrast deeply with the apathetic self questioning vocals which hint at the beginning of a sort of atonement that he's just not ready for. Later on in the album around the halfway point the vocals do pick up in enthusiasm? (I don't know the word for it) and some record scratches are worked into the instrumentals showing glimpses of some hip hop thats been rather absent in the album. The lyrics throughout the album although able to hold unique stories of their own for every track; when listening through the albums entirety in one sitting, gave off the notion that Travis kept on singing what he was singing because its how he works through it... to anyone thats reading i'm sorry that probably made no sense.

That was a great review, Anthony, but can you please stop showing up at my grandmother's retirement home? She and her friends are 80+, why would they need minimalist metal wallets?
kinda reminds me of listening to a Why? album start to finish. think it’s more stripped back with some bits sounding like cabaret voltaire or even early blur. Cool he didn’t release under another name. Long live Travis
I have to be honest I think a 7 is a little bit low for this I would say an 8 to a very very light 9. His ability to recreate himself from tape to tape (even if it took so long!) is incredible.
He didn't even mention how he brings back headboard from his three sides tapes projects. I instantly placed it when I heard it for the first time haha I was like ugly you can't slip that one past me my guy
It's from "three sides tapes part one" was the first release if you want to hear the first one. It's only 30 second longer or so just a longer intro it sounds like.
