Take your a time as a beginner, always trade small size. Even if it takes 2 or 5 years to be come consistent it's ok. Anything you lost in those years you will get back in a few months or weeks once you're consistent and have built a decent account size.

Would I have to pay capital gains on that $500, or would that only lower my Red down to $1500, and I wouldn't get taxed on that $500 winning play?
I’m an extreme perfectionist, almost ocd. I hate not doing a project or something the absolute best way possible. I’ve been disappointed even when trading successfully that I didn’t sell at the very peak or buy at the absolute lowest price possible.
I do the same thing. I've gotten over it now after *not* getting out in a sub optimal position and then having things turn around. The more I trade the more I realize profits are profits. It feels GREAT to time something perfectly, but more often than not that's going to lose you money.

Lots of great advice, but for me #2 DEFINITELY needs an amendment. While its good to keep things under wraps while you learn to shield yourself from constant performance pressure, I didn’t JUST tell my wife, I got her involved! Your marriage is (should be) the most important relationship in your life. If you can’t trust your spouse, you need to fix that problem before investing because it’s an indication that you’ve already been poorly investing all this time! Good relationships occur from investing in them properly. So - we are both in this together, whether we go up or down, we’re in it together and don’t have to live secret lives or hide gains or losses. I subbed for the rest of the advice however :)
Think I can take a shot at answering this one: 1st - Learn about Candles (How to read them, what they mean, etc) 2nd - Learn about Support + Resistance Trendlines, Higher Highs and higher lows, lower lows and lower highs. 3rd. - Learn about Price Action (basically trading without the need for indicators) this one is critical to your foundation. 4th. - Learn about bullish and bearish candle patterns. 5th - Learn about some of the main used indicators that are used and how to apply them correctly for helping with PRICE ACTION in determining a possible trade set-up/opportunity. 6th - Learn about Risk management well. Like really understand it... It's truly not hard but to get and completely understand it just seems like most new traders just rather take risk to try to get rich quick. 7th - Find a strategy that makes sense to you depending on how you think you would like to trade. Ex: being a day trader, swing trader, scalper trader, etc. 8th - Test that strategy on a demo account with the same amount of money that you could actually put in the live account if you wanted to. (Make it feel slightly real) do for about a month or two straight. To really get the feel of things. 9th - If you been winning with your strategy in demo then do like lebron did and take your talents to south beach in your live account. If you stay consistent and keep the formula the same you should be in pretty good shape. Hope this helps, I felt to compelled to write this one because we all were once where you were and was hoping someone would answer our simple questions too. It could have helped us a lot in our future of being a trader.

It depends! If you have a small capital such as less than $500, then it's best to focus on 1-2 trades But yes, if you trade the higher timeframes and your trades last over 1 month, then it's best to diversify your trades to 5+ open trades at a time!
