- The Most Amazing Texas Sheet Cake is light and fluffy with a deliciously decadent cooked frosting on top. Sprinkle on some chopped pecans or walnuts and you have a sheet cake that people will rave over!

✅Ingredients
CAKE:
• 2 cups all-purpose flour
• 2 cups granulated sugar
• 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
• 2 teaspoons baking soda
• 1 teaspoon salt
• 2 large eggs
• 1 cup buttermilk
• 1 cup warm water
• 1/3 cup vegetable oil
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
FROSTING:
• 1/2 cup salted butter
• 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
• 1/3 cup buttermilk
• 3 cups powdered sugar
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
• 1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
✅Instructions
FOR THE CAKE:
1️⃣ 00:00:14 - Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease a 13x18 inch baking sheet.
2️⃣ 00:00:22 - In a large mixing bowl stir together flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, and salt.
3️⃣ 00:00:49 - Add eggs, buttermilk, warm water, oil, and vanilla. Whisk until combined and batter is smooth. This should take just a couple of minutes. Pour batter into prepared baking sheet.
4️⃣ 00:01:33 - Bake for 20-25 minutes until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack for 15 minutes before frosting.
FOR THE FROSTING:
1️⃣ 00:01:54 - Melt butter in a medium-sized saucepan over low heat. Whisk in cocoa powder, then pour in buttermilk. Increase heat to medium high and bring to a simmer, whisking constantly.
2️⃣ 00:02:19 - Once the mixture is simmering, remove from the heat and whisk in powdered sugar and vanilla until smooth. Pour over cake to cover. Use a rubber spatula to smooth out and spread if needed. Sprinkle on chopped pecans. Let the cake and frosting cool completely before cutting and serving.

Omg Gurl. Im from Texas and i can honestly say THANK YOU for this recipe!! My mom used to make desert every night after dinner and she would whip this up in a flash and it was so good! Ive been scaling this down for my family and using a box mix but could not figure out the frosting!! Mom used to poke a few hols w fork b4 placing frosting!! That was pure yum!! But my mom passed b4 i could ask recipe she used to say next time next time...lol

Hands down moist and delicious. I cut the recipe in half and baked for 12mins and came out great. Not tooo sweet. Great woth glass of milk. Yummm!

Ive never used buttermilk in this cake & have made Texas sheet cake so many times. You can use milk or cream. Still turns out moist & delicious

A true Texas sheet Cake actually has pecans, which are indigenous throughout the south. Walnuts are indigenous to the northeast, and along the Eastern coast. That said I grew up on cake with walnuts (but learned differently when I served in Texas). 😁 Can't wait to eat this.

I made this. It was delicious! My frosting came out much thicker. I think it cooled and possibly I used too much powered sugar. Idk. That said, it was a success! Thank you!

This cake is delicious, I have made it twice now. Wonder why when I take it out to cool on the rack it dips down in one spot. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
either uneven or there was a bubble...so once it started cooking, it popped and dropped...tap the sheet lightly on the counter to pop the air bobbles, for even cooking

Can i substitute baking soda to baking powder? I don't like smell of the baking soda 😫
Baking powder contains baking soda. You need the combination of both to have the right balance of acid and bicarbonate.
I thought cinnamon (1/2 - 1 tsp) was always added to tx sheet cake batter.
Some do, but it’s just one of the many variations of Texas sheet cake out there.

You forgot the cinnamon. That is what sets a Texas sheet cake apart from a chocolate sheet cake.

I did not have any buttermilk at home, so I used dry powdered Buttermilk substiute. Turned out dry and far from the fudgy cake using the Real Buttermilk. Never again. Time for the garbage.

Please help .... I have searched this recipe on your website as you suggested but I cannot find the metric measurements. Some countries' cake cup measurements are not the same. In my country the baking cup measurement is (140g which is 250ml) and I think in the USA it is either 120g or 125g. So which is it for this recipe? 120g or 125g that is if you are in the USA.
