That kitten must be a genetic freak or some cruel animal experiment, I don't know. The radiation alone should have been deadly. Hats off to whoever built that set, I mean seriously, Chuck let at least three or four roundhouse kicks loose, and we all know what that kind of sheer wind velocity does to buildings. I think it could be argued that this scene alone is the reason Chuck Norris has been memed into the stratosphere. Bruce Lee has been all but deified after his death as perhaps the greatest martial arts movie star of all time in addition to being an incredibly competent martial artist in real life. Seeing Norris presented as not only a legitimate opponent for Lee's character but one who is worthy of the respect that is given to him both in the manner of his defeat as well as after he has been defeated does a great deal to elevate him in the eye of the public. Especially considering this was the first movie he appeared in outside of a small cameo in The Wrecking Crew.

I find it funny on how so many people think that Bruce Lee was just an actor and dont realize that his speed, strength, focus, and just pure skill was way among any other person. He was not a fighter at all, but a professional martial artist. It's a lifestyle for him and his techniques that he learned and taught are still incredibly useful and effective.

Saw my first Bruce Lee movie the summer before freshman year of high school and was hooked, started reeanacting the form he did as O'Hara interrupts about attending the morning ceremony in uniform.. had moved up several belts in an integrated Japanese-Korean martial arts system called Cha Yan Ryu during preadolescence but dropped it. Absolutely picked up again at the nearest kung fu school because of Bruce Lee.. this is my first time watching him again after following through into dedicated regimen at the MMA gym where I train and its even more inspirational and real than back in 2003.. while I don't at all agree that Bruce was the sole founder of mixed martial arts he was definitely a key player. A perpetual hero in my eyes and a reminder to approach life like water, respond with emotional content and that the word "I" does not exist. Grateful to have learned about this man in time to take example.

I remember an interview with Chuck Norris, where he said he was very nervous about a fight scene with Bruce Lee. He ran into Bruce by chance at the hotel they were staying at while filming this movie. Bruce was actually a very kind man, and he and Chuck struck up a friendship. Chuck confessed how nervous he was about their coming fight scene, and asked if Bruce could at least make it LOOK like he had to make a real effort to defeat him. Bruce agreed. This kind of respect and honor is sadly lacking in most movie and real life heroes these days.

It’s kind of ironic and prophetic how at the end when Bruce’s character upon defeating Chuck’s character takes a moment to honour and respect his opponent by placing his belt next to him, acknowledging and admiring his accomplishments when in real life, Chuck has been doing that ever since Bruce left this realm 50 years ago.
The most important and powerful message that moment ever sent out was how martial arts is ultimately about virtue, integrity and respect, even towards your opponents.
My former Sensei always used to tell us this and to fight only if there is no other option left.

I love the storytelling in this fight. How Bruce starts off with an overly offensive and only SEMI-counter approach to it. Throughout most of the movie, you see him winning one squash match after the other, but when he encounters Chuck he's met his equal.
After Chuck delivers some devastating blows on Bruce, he stops fighting through pure reaction. He takes a moment to recollect himself and as you see in that long slow mo segment, Bruce calms down and learns to READ Chuck's movements and does nothing but block and avoid his attacks.
When Bruce gets back into exchanging blows again, you see he's fighting much more strategically. He does all those oblique kicks to weaken Chuck's kicks AND to stifle his movement a little bit. They get easier to block the more Chuck throws in the high kicks, and since he's not as mobile anymore, he can't back up as quickly, so that's where Bruce capitalizes with more follow up punches.
Then of course you can't ignore the glances of respect and other unspoken communication they have with each other as the fight nears its end. Bruce signals to Chuck more and more that he should just stay down and concede. Gets even more apparent when he takes him down and shakes his head at him, but Chuck doesn't relent...
I think Chuck would rather die a warrior's death than to concede defeat to his equal. So he goes for the Hail Mary attack and gets his neck snapped from Bruce's headlock. Then the way Bruce collects Chuck's gi and lays it over him, you can tell he regrets killing him, but is doing what he can to respect and honour his fallen opponent.

Went out like a true warrior too. Notice how Bruce winds down the moment he realizes his opponent is critically injured and even gives him a chance to honourably surrender. The smirk chuck gives Bruce pretty much says “don’t go soft now that I’m crippled”.
The final moments of this scene is especially cathartic when Bruce snaps chucks neck. The emotional pain on his face says it all. Bruce didn’t want that. They could have been brothers in arms but such as the way of the warrior.

7:08 Fun Fact, Bruce accidently broke Chuck's leg here because Chuck didn't raise his knee off the ground in time to absorb the kick, which was suppose to look realistic for the shot, hence why they chose this angle so you couldn't see Chuck raise his knee up a hair. Bruce wanted to have the scene removed out respect for his friend, but Chuck said, "Hell no,' I told him to 'let production leave it in so he didn't break some poor stunt double's leg reshooting it.'" Not an exact quote, but close enough from what I remember.

4:02 - 4:34 perfectly shows how formidable of a fighter Colt (Chuck Norris) was in this scene; as Ting (Bruce Lee) circled around Colt looking for an opening, Colt is always facing Ting regardless which direction he is. Except for the moment his chest hair was ripped off, up until he got kicked multiple times in the face, Colt's defense appeared impenetrable.
