    So fun to have this mini update Tracy! I love the Quick Fire standard so much, the lace cap is great for pollinators! I have 2 Quick Fire Fabs and like you I love those too! I'm looking to get 2 more to create a hedge near our front yard gate for both privacy and a nice welcome. The Limelight Prime is looking good! I have a Little Lime and I think the colors of it are just perfect. Isn't it great that Proven Winners gives us so many varieties to choose from? Something for everyone!!

      Oh yes, I agree ☝️…there is so much work behind breeding and selection plants…and all the people at PW are doing a fantastic job at it. All the recent introductions are so great and like you said…there is something for everyone…and I love them all. Just too bad I don’t have enough space to plant every variety.
      My Quick Fire is a pollinator magnet 🧲…and I’m so glad for that. 💚💚💚
      Oh…I’m trying to imagine a hedge of the Quick Fire Fab…😍😍😍
      Happy gardening!

    Hi Tracey, and thank U so much for sharing your information about these new hydrangeas! I luv the full panicle hydrangeas. I have an old fashioned pee-wee hydrangea and she performs beautifully for me each year and turns a deep pink color in fall!!! I have a lime light I purchased in 2020, and it was small and I only had i flower. This year it must be 4x4 and is covered in buds that are starting to open!!! I live in the US zone 4b. My hydrangeas are doing well and I’m very grateful for finding your channel! I have learned so much from you and I will be saving my petunia seeds this year!
    Thank you for sharing your beautiful gardens and tips with us!!! Love it all❣️😊👍🏻

    • @TracysHomeGarden
      @TracysHomeGarden  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Brenda! I’m so glad you also like hydrangeas as I do…the Limelight will definitely be growing more in the next few years and eventually reach 6-8 ft tall and wide (even in zone 4b climate…although it may take a little longer in the cooler climate because of the shorter growing season).
      I think growing annuals from seeds we collect in our garden is so much fun as what we get will be very different than the original plant. I have 5 different color blooms from seeds collected on one of my petunia plant last year. And…6-8 different colors of blooms from seeds collected from 3 of my calibrachoa plants.
      It also saves $$ as well. Happy gardening Brenda!

    Hi Tracy. I planted my Limelight Prime last year and it stayed quite small and not a huge amount of growth. It looked a little lost. This year it’s 4’ high x 3’ wide. It’s a little lopsided as I did not want to prune it much. Next spring I will even it out. It is blooming but I don’t have a Limelight to compare it to. To me, the flowers seem pretty green although some of the earlier ones are starting to go white. It’s situated on the south side with full sun all day and looks great against the red brick of my house.

    • @TracysHomeGarden
      @TracysHomeGarden  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Susan,
      I was thinking of the Limelight Prime (LLP) as an improved version of Limelight so I started saying “6-8 ft”…then realize that it is actually 4-6 ft tall. It seems like the LLP will be similar in size to the Little Lime which is about 3-5 ft tall. The panicles on the LLP are somewhat more “green” than some of the other panicle hydrangeas but side by side next to the original Limelight…I think the Limelight panicles are definitely more green.
      I hope the panicles will be less floppy compared to my Limelight…🤞🤞🤞

    • @TracysHomeGarden
      @TracysHomeGarden  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m sorry to hear that…perhaps you can try a Fire Light Tidbit that is supposed to bloom later for us in cooler climate but may be more suitable for the warmer climate. Blooming later means you can have the plant bloom in the latter part of summer when the days are shorter and the blooms can stay fresh longer and not get burned by the longer days. Also, planting hydrangeas in a location that gets only morning sun and afternoon shade would be most suitable…also slow and deep watering to keep the plants well soaked. I have seen hydrangeas planted in the places that have similar climates as Texas.

    I feed my hydrangeas with coffee ground in the fall and spring like you said and so far fed them twice now, last fall and this spring. My hydrangea leaves are turning pale yellow and appear unhealthy. Their stems are showing with less bushy though they are flowering at the moment in my zone 4B. Anything I should do now to make them look more healthy?

    • @TracysHomeGarden
      @TracysHomeGarden  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there,
      I’m sorry to hear about this. Are you on IG? You can send me a photo and I may be able to help you try to figure out why the leaves are yellowing?
      A few yellowing of leaves near the inside or bottom of the bush is okay but complete yellowing of the leaves is not good.
      There could be a possible number of reasons and I don’t think used coffee grounds is one of them….unless you applied too much? I usually just give each plant a half to 1 cup of coffee grounds (or compost) per plant (depending on size). I always recommend “less is more”.
      If the plant is blooming then it is doing okay…so I think the yellowing could be do to “overwatering”? Check your soil…especially in zone 4 where your sunlight is not as intense…you may not have to water so much. In our zone 5, I water my garden twice a week even during the heat wave we have been getting. The only thing I do more is water longer (for deep watering).
      If you are not sure how much to water your plants, you can check the soil…only water if the top 4” of soil is dry.
      Again, these are only guesses so hopefully they are helpful. Hope your plants get better. 🤞

    Tracy, can a hydrangea be a panicle and lace cap? The quick fire tree looks like a lace cap.

    • @TracysHomeGarden
      @TracysHomeGarden  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Leslie,
      Good question…perhaps we need the Hydrangea scientist/society or English major to help us in this department? 😁
      I have always thought of it as a noun - “lacecap” = lacy panicles….whereas “lace” cap = lacy mophead blooms???
      I just checked on PW’s website and I think they did use “lacecap panicles” in the description of the Quick Fire panicles. Lol…I’m not an English major and always struggle in this department so I can never be sure when it comes to the English language.
      Ps. Give me a question on the Nomenclature of Inorganic or Organic compound and how it is “named” or “called” and I could easily explain.

    Tracy, can you advise how your panicles are so big and beautiful? Do you apply a lot of fertilizers, and water a lot?

    • @TracysHomeGarden
      @TracysHomeGarden  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Maggie,
      Hydrangeas are not heavy feeders like roses and they don’t need fertilizers…they get a handful of compost in the spring (and sometimes fall). Every 3 years I add about 2” of compost on top and apply 2-3” of mulch every spring.
      I deep water my garden 2-3 times a week.

      @TracysHomeGarden  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Andrea,
      If they are mature plants than you should replant in late fall or later winter (just as the ground becomes workable). I prefer late winter as the plant can be pruned back to a more manageable size and the cooler temps promote better root growth to prepare the plant for summer. All the best! 💚💚💚
