More Dave and Sage, right on! That left shift Ritchey shock lockout is super smart. The Moots "Route Esc" is magical. Great coverage David!
Thanks!
It was a pleasure and a privilege to have met you at Sea Otter.
The pleasure was all mine Peter :)
Love the accent. It always keeps me coming back. Keep it real and interesting as usual.
I had to skip by the Sage and Mosaic bikes. I don't even want to look. Why torture myself? I want to stay married and I have one kid to get thru college still. That Ekar group though...I love the gear range options on that, but I bet it's pricey. Is anybody like Microshift showing there? I think my next build is going to be all mechanical and I don't see many options for that out there.
Shimano still has mechanical GRX and 105 groupsets…
The industry will kill itself off if it keeps pushing too expensive bikes that, in reality, have too many proprietary and electronic systems, that customers can't easily service or adjust.
this Ekar groupset is their cheaper option- they have a more expensive one with more carbon. still very light and the brakes are fantastic and the gear range is great.
Fergus is the man!
The anodized paint on the first Sage bike was pretty cool.
Gravel bikes are slowly evolving into full suspension mountain bikes.
Only a matter of time before we start seeing rear suspension for the full bounce experience. If you are riding trails that require front suspension wouldn't you be better just using a moutain bike anyway?
@@michaeltilney1298 I'm literally selling my gravel bike for a hardtail MTB. I'm leap frogging the industry trend before gravel bikes arrive there. 😅
It all comes down to preference of how you grip your bars. if you aren’t sending bombs down rocks, hoods are just more comfortable than flat bars, so why not?
I think there is considerable room for crossover and always has been. I used to race XC and ride recreationally on a Bianchi Project 5 which had 700 x 41 tires and flat bars with xc race geometry. It might have looked like a "hybrid" bike, but it was really the first iteration of 29er, and I ran drop bars.
It's because of people trying/complaining about how and what a gravel bike should be capable of. These manufacturers are just trying to milk the next new thing. Eventually there will be an XC gravel drop bar bike or as many call it monstercross.
The Mosaic!
Sage bikes! Love em!
I’m surprised you didn’t mention Mosaic, given that you used one for the thumbnail. I’m a big fan of their bikes.
Moin Ingo, Hammer Video! Danke dafür. Schau mir den Rucksack an. Kurze Frage. Welcher Varia Halter ist das im Video? 🙏🏽
Was campag showing a new groupo or the longest shifting cable on USA soil?
Agreed, it looks hilariously bad like an amateur mechanic built the bike, but the original Ekar had the same problem too!
Yeah that spaghetti noodle of an rd cable was distracting
Those Sage bikes are amazing,i wish i could afford one some day❤
Basso: saving up for a set of cutters for the rear gear outer??!!
Yeah, that was hideous. An embarrassment to the builder.
@@johnwolff1043no plug/grommet even 😂
Nope it is a show bike, once show is over Ekar is going out and whatever was there before will be put back, I suppose SRAM by the looks of things… 😂
what brand is the bike at 0:26? looks so sick.
I wouldn't call a drop bar MTB a gravel bike, but I think it's something that should be on market.
I'd love to see 2in1 remote integrated into drop bar brake lever.
Was down at Laguna today. What an event. That Basso with Ekar was sweet.
Sage Storm King and Moots Routt ESC both look fantastic, but holy second mortgage Batman! I hope Ozark Trail can borrow some of their design principles. 😂
LOVE THE RITCHEY!
LOVE to see more gravel bikes with suspension forks. It just gives you more options to get the exact bike you need.
4:40 he talks about the paint coat bonding to titanium at the molecular level. No it's not correct.
That first Sage Stormking is awesome.... would be all over that if it wasn't 6k LOL
What is the first bike at 0:16? Absolutely gorgeous
It’s from Mosaic
For the record. A Ritchey crank arm broke on me while on the continental divide in northern new Mexico, halfway through a 150 mile day ride. I got " rescued " by some guys on atv's. They got me out to the hiway but i was still 100 miles from home in the dark . It was a really long day. I sent Ritchey a message about their crank failure, they didnt care.
What type was it? I thought Ritchey haven’t made cranksets for a decade now.
It has been added to the record!
Thanks for sharing
I had a Campagnolo non-drive side crankarm completely break while riding home from work (one legged pedal with 5 miles uphill yet to get home)...this was back in the day, and was attributed to the Campy logo engraving...say NO to surface flaws in any stressed bike part...😂
I have mixed feelings about suspension forks on gravel bikes but totally agree with dropper post on gravel. My reason for not feeling a 40mm suspension fork is value is because it’s not that significant. A gravel bike with a bigger front tire with Cushcore on a wider rim paired with good carbon drop bar plus carbon fork is close to 10mm travel, maybe more in comparison with smaller tires narrow rims and aluminum bars. Maybe I’m bias because I have been riding rigid SS hardtail’s for years
40mm is still 4x more than 10 mm.
What I'm more worried about is that it adds a part to the bike that is more prone to failure and needs maintenance. I just got rid of the front suspension on my trekking bike for that reason.
That being said, my next gravel will definitely have a front suspension because of the terrain that I'm planning to ride on. I feel like the majority of gravel bikes are just endurance road bikes with bigger clearance, and that's not something I want going downhill on a single trail.
More MOOTS, please!
So much titanium. Do people really want titanium gravel bikes now? Will the winner of any races be on titanium? I have a titanium bike but can’t imaging racing it.
I definitely want one! If I was to have a titanium, "anything," it would be gravel.
P29 Ritchey
CLASSIC never die bike
Haha…so funny…sounds like the 90’s again, you mean…you like suspension on the front when off road..and a dropper…mind blowing revelations! Lol
Ritchey all day for me.
Diggin the dogma 👍👍👍👍👍 A winning bike for Tom 👍
Where are the Kona bikes?
Gone! 😅
Sorry but Moots headset spacer !
The spacers are just awful, and look too massive with the stem for a bike of this price: the finish isn't up to scratch there.
It's the stupid industry push to make everything fully integrated at the front end. Why on a metal bike? Looks rubbish and will be a pain to service or adjust the headset / front end.
Hmm thanks or the brief round up. I’m glad I didn’t buy a ticket to go to Sea Otter for the new gravel releases if that’s all there is! ...A pretty disappointing line up of ‘new’ gravel bikes to be honest. The hottest new gravel bike at Sea Otter might be the one I saw on another channel, the 'Thesis N1', titanium with fully adjustable gravel/road geo. They have it set up with gravel wheelset on the front and road on the back.
…and any sign of the mythical GRX Di2 12 speed?
Basso for me
Ritchey is the reason we watch
"Full Fox, Race Face, Easton parts on this bike ..."
You can say that about every bike ever made, if you just list the parts on the bike.
I dont get titanium. 30 yrs ago before Carbon Fiber was popular it made some since cuz it was lighter than steel, and more comfortable than Aluminum assuming you like the ride of Ti. I only tried 3 Ti frames in the 90’s and I didnt think any ofmthem rode remotely as well as Steel…..just never lively enough for my tastes.
titanium frames are a lot better today than they were in the 90s, might be time to try one again?
My new trek checkpoint alr5 is fantastic for commuting. fenders and all. You should check it out .a great bike .not just European expensive bikes . Normal person riding.cheers all
It's seems most of the youtube bike world choose to ignore the Checkpoint...seems odd as its a good bike...my alr5 is great..
I checked it out and really like it. Most importantly affordable. This will be my everything bike once I have saved enough.
Trek won't send me one, maybe cos I wasn't very nice about the original when I reviewed it at road.cc many years ago ??
@@davidarthur You’re spot on about the original David. 😉
How much cable on that Campag mech 🤮
I want to go to Sea Otter just to see all the company booths, and skip the race…lol
im about an hours drive and never been! :0
I like the look of the Giant Revolt X but don't want carbon. I don't think carbon would be compatible with my life. The bike has to survive being carried up and down stairs and being transported in my station wagon (estate car).
I can't stand that Ekar gear cable housing loop. It 's so ugly it hurts my eyes. It spoils what is probably a great groupset.
Can we all just call them "printed" dropouts? I think it's pretty obvious that they're 3D.
Funny how titanium is still the go-to frame material for gravel bikes.
Didn’t rate any of the bikes I’ll stick to my grail sl8
Go Tom!!
