Mushrooms that are older can be rehydrated by soaking in water with some sea salt added. Beautiful spots for fishing & foraging!! Lovely morels, great finds!! 🥰
This year was a mediocre year for me on the morel mushroom front. Found probably 100-150 of them. On a prime year I’ll find 1,000+. Also, those other mushrooms your dad found look to be some variety of Gyromitra. Without closer inspection it’s hard to say if they were the edible kind or 💀 kind. Great video!

hey Ace.. on the topic of frogs for trout, there's a stream near me and you can catch them on most baits early morning or late evening, but no joke if you can catch those little frogs on the bank the trout will hit them all day long.. anytime I go there and want to limit out quickly I just use the frogs, by far the best bait in that stream (Missouri)
In wisconsin here we cut ours length wise like a hot dog bun but nothing wrong with that at all! Duo them in flour or pancake powder then cook in butter but everyone has their own style! Keep up the awesome vids!
I know you guys only had the stream but what my dad does when he goes mushroom hunting he soaks the morels in salt water for a bit to get the bugs out. Morels are very yummy. They’re really good fried in batter too!
I grew up eating morels. Most recently a few weeks ago. Just a basic butter fry is good, but it's not how I prefer. I'd definitely recommend a ~15 minute rinse followed by a flour/salt and pepper coating before frying in your preferred oil/fat. Then add a touch more salt/pepper as needed. It really is one of the greatest treats. Even one of my uncles requested it as his last meal .

Funny story... had a goose come to our salmon spot for about 4 weeks it stayed and would come and eat the bugs off our grill of our vehicles. But i just had a picture pop in my memories and the goose would stand on one foot and sleep
Not sure if you actually reads the but you should have a moral carved into the top of that walking stick so your ancient can look at it while he's hunting. Keeps your mind on the look and you will find way more
Lightly lightly lightly floured and fried is also an amazing way to cook Morels but pops also said a good way, with eggs, more specifically in a mushroom swiss omelet.
Over here in Germany, we eat Thimblecaps. If they‘re Verpa bohemica, i‘m not sure though so don‘t take advice from youtube comments regarding mushrooms. Especially with morel close relatives, you can really fk up if you eat the wrong one. Also, get a mouse lure, not a live one, that seems kinda unnecessary. As always amazing video!

i think those purple flowered plant you saw by that goose are called ramps AKA wild garlic. the way to tell is if you pinch it and it smell garlicy or oniony then that is a ramp and you can use them in soups and for seasoning foods just like normal garlic. also you can make ramp pesto

Those "Herons" were Egrets my friend. I didn't know Trilliums were edible! Huh. That said, knowing that if you did harvest anything off a trillium that it wouldnt grow back or bloom for 7 years would ensure I wouldn't harvest them anyway. If they are picked or the leaves or stalk get damaged, that's what happens, which is sad and definitely not worth harvesting them in my opinion. The mouse is so cute! I love rodents man! What a adorable little friend! You truly became a mad scientist in this one! Those poor little experiments of yours suffered many a war crime at your hand, and Interpol shall be contacting you for trial soon. 😅 All in all, what a fantastic experience and adventure! That's what it's all about!

Also frogs love in the water, so they can be casted multiple times without having to rebait!
Dead fish are used for shellfish and chum, shellfish love dead fish that are fatty. And you csn always grind up your "trash fish" and make great chum!
