When you are short on bait as you were in this particular trip, would it hurt to pre-cut some of your skipjack and place it back into the bag? This way, instead of just throwing your used head pieces into the kayak for possible use later, you can throw them into the bloody bag of bait to infuse them with more blood and oil.

How about having a small live bait under a balloon behind the kayak when you do the raw and uncut ultralight trips?
I could probably do a live bait sometime. It may be a bit of a hassle when I navigate around trees and get snagged but we may catch some different fish with it. Thank you for the super chat!

Well you were wrong about them catfish not having access to chicken to fish with. 2 night ago i found a dead chicken floating down the river. I though it was just a piece of wood but i had to swing back around because i was 90% sure i saw bird legs sticking up. It was stuck in the floating debris that night but the next morning it was gone.

I bought skip jack from a bait shop up here in Indiana . It was trash. As soon as it thawed out enough to run a hook through it , it was all mushy . $$24 for 3 skips . I got robbed

@KayakCatfish I have had luck and it is readily available and it does not come off the hook.
Btw , chicken heads usually considered as the by product. A lot of the time , they get discarded with help if acid , unless they get a contract from livestock food producers ...

I believe that it is brains on chicken. On fish the head has gills for blood, there is more in gills than body.
I thought the real reason for having boat was carrying all the lures.
Doubles, singles, doubles and more doubles. Stories and fun sizers, near whoppers, and dinks. Quantity and quality were the stories of the day. We definitely got rid of the bad juju, and today didn't stink.

@@Roberts810 I get 50-75% of them back, but I’m drifting 4 rods, and if 1 gets hung, I have to reel them all up, get it unhung, drop them back down. It’s a hassle.
@@givemeabreakdoc for sure is a hassle. I've tried two rods so far till I can get used to it.

Locally (South Africa) you can buy some interesting street food, with interesting names: chicken feet "runners", sheep's head "smiliey" (because of the grin) and chicken feet & heads "walky-talkies" - all cooked on the side of the road. As kids we used sparrows for catfish bait.
I hope to make it over to visit South Africa someday but I’m gonna stay away from the street food lol. Thank you for the support.
Justin, question please. You always say fish the ledge on a creek channel in a lake if possible or maybe the ledge of the lake itself if no creek channel? The question is before the drop off, on the drop or right when it hits deeper water? As always, proud of you Brother
I always try to work the break lines. Some ledges will have multiple break lines. I typically focus on the deepest one most of the time.

I think those big catfish are used to getting spined in the mouth by the bait fish they eat. That is why they sometimes don't react to the hook. It is not until they realize that they are being pulled to the surface do they really start fighting hard.

I want to fish somewhere different besides Memphis TN. Unless you have a boat, you couldnt catch a tick off a dogs ass
Try harder, use Google maps and follow your river, find some good spots and do some scouting. I'm from up north and I feel the same way about my area but I have managed to find some good spots and land some big ones.
Do you find usually in the winter time locating bigger schools of fish and pinpointing exactly where they’re at gets easier?
I think they do tend to school more in the winter but fishing during those cold months is usually hit or miss for me.
Would you consider taking your board along and let us see how long some of these big fish are?
Unless it’s in a tournament, I don’t want go through the hassle of measuring them

Highly suggest chicken liver wrapped in pantyhose on Sandusky bay. Used to live in Ohio, and while chicken catches them the livers have always caught me twice as many channels easily.
Thank you for the sting hook idea. This has made for hook ups even better. I'm able to hide that stink hook in the stink bait. Catching the fish by surprise.

Do you use Catfish Sumo rods and reels? Yes sir you had a rough tournament. But you should feel blessed for all of the good tournaments you have had. I doubt anyone put a curse on you. I'm am so impressed with the way you guys catch fish during the day.

Hey Justin my wife recently bought me a Garmin Striker 4 fish finder. I was wondering how you were taught, or learned the difference between fish and debris in the water! I’m 15 minutes in, and ready to relax and watch the show!
I’m definitely not an expert on the graphs but the fish are pretty obvious on my unit compared to debris. I have never used the model you have so I’m not sure what they look like on there.
That Garmin 4 is not nothing like his. It shows air bladder also everything you see is past you a bit. Unless you run the sonor directly under the vessel, like ice fishing. I'm still learning mine and it's been 2 years. I just put my bait in areas that simulate what I past. Water depth,temp and blimps on screen. I wish I could afford live scope or even side scope ,but I'm poor lol but love to fish. Also I know I couldn't even put one of his cats in my yak lol. Heavy fish is all he catches not the little babies I catch.
