I'm aware that cello can reach certain high notes, yet when I saw the score of this piece, I'm terrified looking at the solo cello part. 😂 Bloody bass instrument got its own treble stave for the entirety of the piece.
At the very start, after the double stops, she hits a very high A. Every recording does a quieter harmonic but she stopped the string and made sure it was heard over everything. I think that an amazing interpretation.
I haven't heard of Sol's music before until today, but after seeing this amazing perfomance, and listening some of her work on streaming (like the Vivaldi concerts) all I can say is that I'm an instant fan of Sol Gabetta! 🤩😁
Wow! I have not been emthralled by a performance in a long time. Simply outstanding. And you can see how much she loves the music and making it come to life. Always the sign of a great musician.
This performance of this piece is absolutely shocking! The life force and explosion of creativity coming from one single person on front stage center is electrifying. You can hear that Saint-Saëns was strongly influenced by JS Bach in this movement. What a performer she is!
I've never heard a cello sound like this. Her performance of Saint-Saëns' first concerto seems like it comes from a completely different soloist and instrument. Why is that? Not that it's a bad thing; I enjoy this timbre quite a bit. Interesting.
Abril
I've just subscribed to your channel. I started playing cello when I was 12. I have always wanted to play the gambas, as well. Such beautiful instruments ❤
@@dudeforcaster8630 Bro I just think she's good, and I've watched Twoset a bit, I play cello, violin and viola, so give me a break. I'm just trying to say that she's an amazing cellist.
Notice how she’s also not reading sheet music this is true talent. And people still wonder why I think orchestra musicians are the most talented people in the world.
It's a common practice for the performer to learn the solo part of a concerto by heart. In such cases, reading sheet music as a soloist is rather a moveton.
Any solo performer is expected to play without music. There isn't any rule that you can't play without music sheet. It is more for the astetic and professionalism. Franz Liszt was the composer who started the shift from playing with music score to just plain memory.
Wow i am out of breath.❤ this is DAMN GOOD !!!!!!❤❤❤ i want to go to her orchestra 😅😅😅 asap🎉.... hats of to the amount of practice and concentration it takes.
Good thing there was this you tube shorts and finally watched this and immediately went to watch the whole masterpiece. All I can say is WOW!

I have an unknowable amount of respect for this woman
That beginning of the movement is one of the most epic parts of music Ive ever heard
And one of the hardest for the cello players...

Wow, just when you think she hit the last harmonic, she goes even higher. Amazing skill!
Fully stopped strings. No harmonics there. The articulation is really impressive.
@@rfoxmich Yes there are, around 3:35
Articulation and shifts are amazing.
Perfect technique
She's the Amy Lee of strings.
This rips so hard! Absolutely amazing! It's like her playing willed the rest of the orchestra to play.
Don't get in the way and hold on tight!

3:42 literally goosebumps
The dedication she have put for so many years to be this good!!!

I can't believe what I just saw and heard! I've known Sol Gabetta for years (not personally) but I didn't expect THAT!
She is an inspiration: repertoire, courage, integrity. I bow deeply.
Apollo meets Dionysus in the battleforest of chaotic and sublime passion and they have a spectacular stand-off! ☀️🌟🎆🌟🌑
If I never watched that TH-cam short, I wouldn't have ever get to hear and see this masterpiece!
I also like Saint-Saëns' Carnival of the Animals❤️
She is so incredible! Skills, expression... All come together in such electrifying performance. Very beautiful!
1:59 absolutely gorgeous melody

This is the moment when you realize your daughter grew up wanting to be a rock star, but you took her to cello lessons instead.
Im a violist and thanks to her I want to shift to Cello :3
It has the most legendary opening of any concerto I’ve ever heard besides Grieg’s piano concerto in a minor

I don't think some people realize just how hard this is
She's the 'Hilary Hahn' of the cello! Never heard it done better. Imagine the poor orchestra having to keep pace with her frenetic fingering?
Amazing 😮

Just amazing. She is such a mature artist.
After all that speed, the composer slowed it down so much. Great control on her part. Bravo.
