The cards look like shit, no stores were seriously carrying it/running events for it, there was no target audience beyond "hey kids, remember the glory days of Pokemon back in the 90s?", it was an experiment in scalping and deserves to collapse, it was never going to survive and we all knew it.

I think the mtg community underestimates how many new players joined the game over the last year. and those people dont care for ABU collecting, they care for blinging out their commander deck or finishing their LOTR collection. Maybe they get interested in the old stuff down the line but not now.
I see this every time. People come in and buy a commander deck and sit down, and then I fuck up their world with an old border card. Oh? Playing a monoblack deck? Don't you know, we're in a Drought? Or they attempt to block Kaalia, and I untap her and remove her from combat, as well as all my other creatures at the end of combat with Reconnaissance. Or I shut down their cute go wide token deck with Aether Flash.
And I have to tell them, to start playing broken commander, one has to go back and get into the old border cards before there was a color pie.
And then they are VERY interested in 'the old stuff'.

@@Daeyelyeah that had the opposite effect on me and my buddies. Going to card shops for months losing to ridiculous decks constantly, dudes blowing their checks on the newest sets…made it very unattractive to us. I have some sealed I bought during the 6-8 months I was playing so I still keep up with the market but I went back to pokemon collecting pretty quickly. With all these collaborations though I am kinda interested in mtg again, it’s definitely trending upwards rn.
I’m now a patron for the first time. I have been buying more sealed than ever. God damnit in getting crushed!!! Let’s gooooo.

I just don’t understand the mentality of Rudy is Evil. He found a CCG he liked, promoted it, and invested in it himself. It’s not a fucking bond. He didn’t make you buy, take some accountability for yourself. The creator of Metazoo ruined it. There’s nothing immoral about wanting to make money. I absolutely love these videos.
Have you ever seen the Rudy videos about Wall St. where he goes out of his way to stress that he's not giving financial advice? That's because he would be breaking the law if giving financial advice about stocks/bonds. Notice how he doesn't give the same disclaimer talking about cardboard "investing"? That's because it's not legally required for those sham "investments". Both are unethical but only one requires the legal disclaimer. Rudy could not care less about ethics, only legal trouble.
If you cant afford a loss then you should not park your money in investing in any tcg

A reserved card that every EDH player would love to have as well collectors seems like a sweet spot and pretty safe bet compared to new Magic or old collectables like “pyramid” or “raging river”
The suggestion that several stores/businesses are recapitalizing (is that an english word?) by selling chunks of inventory (sealed product of past sets) at aggressive price point might be true not only in the U.S. For several months now there is quite a bunch of older sets way off the pandemic/post-pandemic highs. Examples: OG mirrodin block, OG kamigawa block, OG ravnica block, Kaladesh block, OG Eldraine

Not possible. The low end of RL print run is under 50K per card even including the CE and 30th Ann editions. If you remove CE/30th, you are talking less than 25K for the ABU only RL cards.
I'm not even sure if it's near 10k anymore. I had it pre-pandemic but stopped caring, sold most of it. Why have it anymore? I don't even like looking at it, reminds me how much it sucks now.

People need to understand that a regular market for vintage collectibles and I preface vintage collectibles of significance is that they gently go up with inflation , which maybe boring but your dollar doesn’t,unless parked into a cash producing asset like a bond. Index fund or dividend stocks or some tangible assets that may appreciate via capital gains , that’s the point. I feel like more of the people in this space before 2020 understood this, the fed will never print that kind of money again until we either have WW3 , The grid goes down or another pandemic, we will not have a global shutdown again probably in our lifetimes.

My old Magic Cards from 1994 is only for Nostalgica. I will not buy Vintage ones because they had their time. I went back to Magic for Arena and some Universes Beyond. Now I Collect some Artists and themes I like the story. But my Four Serra Angel I have in a very special place. If Wizard go over to AI produced Cards then I quit Collecting.

@@fatmakesyoufat Sheoldred, the Apocalypse, Cavern of Souls, Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer just to name a few.
Shock land value matters when a playset can net most of those aforementioned top cards...if the lands dropped to $5+/- then we'd have huge disparity...which is what pissed off players when their $50+ enemy fetches dropped into the value of "game pieces".

Because those variants are mostly going to be unaffected by reprints like Masterpiece Sol Ring which is a relatively new card and holds up regardless.

As time goes on, and I think of how many people might still be grading and slabbing cards at this point, despite the drop in value overall, I wonder which company will begin using AI to actually analyze, scan, and give proper grades to cards based on their condition. Looking at the cards Rudy had in this vid, theres no doubt a couple 9s and many 8s, but do 10/10s really exist here or there? I think we would need machine help to truly know. Either way, rant aside, its always nice to see the old cards in vids like this ^
