I like these "beginner" kind of videos. Sure, everything in this kit is very low tier, but each item serves to fill the archetype of each category, and you can always upgrade the bits and pieces later.

Even though video is 3 years old decent starter bag that is much better than dollar store bag.

Just wonderful, I been tryin to find out about "emergency survival kits for cars" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about - Pansaac Ideological Preeminence - (should be on google have a look ) ? It is a smashing one off guide for discovering how to collate your effective bug out plan for survival minus the headache. Ive heard some interesting things about it and my buddy got great results with it.

Thanks for mentioning shoes. It seems small but reminded me of a situation I was in a few years back. I ran out of gas after church and ended up pushing my car in dress shoes. I cant really afford to start building a bag yet but I can throw some old boots in my car. I feel like I'm getting somewhere already.

Absolutely a great video! One thing that I did for my EDC is went to thrift store in order to get a high quality bag for each car. I have three very high quality bags that I paid less than $5 each. Just a thought but a cool way to have an extremely high quality bag for very little money.

This is the way I started my Get Home Bag. I added better higher quality items but it is still affordable. I put mine together this summer and Sensible Prepper was the inspiration then based on some of his previous vids. I just changed it out for Winter and added cold weather items. It gives me peace of mind and it's handy to throw in the truck for trips. Don, thank you for motivating me to get off my fanny and passing on great information!

One thing I would add to the list, Ziplock bags. They are very useful to keep stuff dry in an inclement weather situation.

got my bug out bag with pretty good (about $300 worth) stolen from my car last week. im in a pinch right now financially but being a prepper dont like to be without a bob so im gonna head to my local walmart later and put together a cheap bag similar to this. Thanks for the video, great tips

What a great video idea to forward on to friends and family members who are just now trying to get into the preparedness mindset. I know from my experience that the upfront cost was enough to keep most of them away from taking that first step. I found myself several times wishing I could just go visit them and take them to a Walmart and load a bag exactly like this and show them how much better off they could be with very little cost. Thanks for your time and effort in making this!

Semper Fi. The best thing about ur videos is getting people to start thinking about what you would do in certain situations. Recent events will hopefully open some eyes, and people will finally see the writing on the wall, or in this case, the video on the screen. Keep up the good work.

I have quite a few of those in my GHB. Match case, first aid kit (augmented), baby wipes, duct tape, space blanket, paracord.
My multitool is a leatherman, ss canteen, mid tier light, morakniv, personal water filter, clif bars (rotated every 6 months). There's some good stuff available at Walmart if you're not going bottom of the barrel.

I'm glad to see this video. I've been watching your other channel for a long time and somehow just yesterday came across this one. I'm interested in prepping but cost in materials is often a factor for me. Glad to know there's resources out there for people like me that can't afford a whole lot but still want to have at least some essential supplies ready for the "what if".

Interesting video. I like budget priced items as they allow us to buy something and use it till it wears out or we can purchase better gear. And the inexpensive item can serve as a backup, a spare or as a loaner or even a decoy.
On the flip side, I always advocate better quality as a wise investment.

    • @jimbash6384
      @jimbash6384 8 ปีที่แล้ว

The decoy bag is a really good idea. It gives a better than even chance they will think they have made a score and take off before they have a chance to lose the score they just made. Also as you said a loaner, you may find the need for help and this would be something to say look help me out here and I can spare this to help you out with.

always good to have options, one thing i found with my car bag, was that water in the winter froze, no matter how insulated eventually it froze, so in the end i opened the water and put glycerine in the water to stop it freezing, another way that is good in a whole different way was to add some vodka too the water, not enough to make ya drunk, but just enough to keep it from freezing completley, the added bonus being the spirit helps keep the bugs down, a lot of people poo poo places like walmart and the dollar store, but for a low low cost emergency bag they cant be beat, sure the quality is low, and i may pay to spend a little more on the essentials like a good knive aa good flashlight, aor even a walkie talkie, but when push comes to shove, even a stale loaf is better than no loaf when youre in need! cheers dave

Greetings Sootch. Great video. I have bought a lot of gear at Walmart, the key is to be knowledgeable about what you need and spend time looking. I do my shopping while the wife grocery shops, usually takes her at least a couple hours. Yes, Wally world sells a lot of junk, but you can find decent items with time. I have one of the 30 dollar black tactical bags I use for work, and its really hung in there. Just one example to show what I mean. Thanks again for your hard work, enjoy your stuff.

+SensiblePrepper Ever try one of those Hydro-Rollers? I think its an emergency water carrier except its heavier duty and has two wheels for running from zombie hoards. I havent tried it because it resembles my uncles sanitation disposal tank roll-away carrier. I dont think of water when I see those royal-blue containers with the wheels, but if the bullets are flying I wont be trying to get over my fears, I will be sprinting with one of those things in tow.

Next to my get home bag in my trunk is a full set of clothes, even a belt, and a pair of boots. That way even if I'm on my way back from a wedding wearing a suit and dress shoes, I can be dressed for the occasion. My philosophy is that my bag shouldn't depend on my edc. Although I should always have my edc, I don't want to depend on it in case I just ran out to the store in sweatpants so I have backups of everything such as my knife, multitool, light etc.

If you want a good cheap disposable makeshift canteen use either a Gatorade or Powerade bottle. Especially if you have a long walk to get home you can replenish your electrolytes and the wide mouth is super easy to refill. A lot easier than a regular water bottle. Also it's rather easy to make carry straps for them with paracord or duct tape.

You might want to add a bic lighter attached to cordage connected to a roll of chapstick and then add gorilla tape around each. Adding a small zip tie around the button of the bic lighter prevents your lighter from losing its fuel and can be removed and replaced once zipped, clipping the extra length makes it a little sharp though can be filed to prevent cuts. Plus the adhesive sticker is also flammable, once you have a empty lighter if the wheel is removed slowly the springs can be made into a snare & fishing hook and the childproof metal can be removed and can also be made into a fishing hook.

I know this is supposed to be bargain/cheap orietented, but I have to say that when it comes to wet wipes, don't get them bulk packed in the "travel packs" or whatever, they will dry out on you. If you want wet wipes, which are great when they stay wet and are great for bug out bags, buy the ones that are INDIVIDUALLY packaged or in "singles" packs. I've had singles of wet wipes in my bag for years, I'm talking so long the plastic is starting to peel off the protective packet and inside the wipes are still wet!
While I opened one to test it, you can tell if they're still wet because they'll feel cool through the packets.
Yeah, they'll cost double, but they're for longer term storage. Which needs to be taken into consideration with bug out bags: things don't last forever. Food needs to be rotated out, batteries, glowsticks, bug repellants, etc. replaced. It's worth it to find out and buy things that last for a bug out bag you likely only clean out once a year.

one thing I personally do is replace my shoe laces and boot laces with Paracord this serves 2 fold.
    1) I always have some sort of cordage on me
    2) I do not have to worry about breaking a lace rather it be bugging out or just out shopping.
my 5.11 tactical ATAC boots have about 7-8 feet of paracord in each of them, the only problem with using paracord for laces is they tend to untie very easy so I double knot my laces.

Followup video suggestion: taking this bag and retrofitting it with even cheaper diy or garage sales/thrift shops finds. Ex: better quality bag, but maybe embroidered with "ABC Company" on the side. Promotional steel water bottle at Goodwill for $1, homemade food bars, DIY cotton/PJ tinder. DIY saw from sawzall blade. Pill bottle turned match container. DIY polished metal cap signal mirror... you get the idea.
I bet you could put together a pretty cheap and rugged bag.

I have the Ozark Trail Multi-tool... yes it is cheap... yes it is a little flimsy... but I have on more than 1 occasion used it as a sole tool I keep in my purse, to fix big jobs... My car... So even though it is cheap, don't be so quick to say it is not worth the price. I also have other multi-tools which are far better grade, but I have yet to replace the one in my purse, because it still works even after 3 years and LOTS of use.

Dont sleep on the tactical ginsu kitchen knife or the clearance rack filet knife. Seriously, though, most important items in walmart are the water filters or if you plan on bugging in for awhile, activated carbon/charcoal in the fish aquarium aisle. Charcoal/carbon powder for filtering water (same as in aquariums) come in a pint sized container and can be put in a filter device for cleaning water of bacteria and protozoa.

I’m a new viewer. Found one of your videos the other day. I’m now hooked and binge watching. Excellent explanations. I guess I have been a prepped of sorts since the early 80’s when my vehicle broke down on my way home from a camping trip in a fairly remote area. I had a little food and drink, mostly beer but then shortly after carried a make shift cooking set up a portable folding stove that uses stereo I bought at Kmart in 84. Still have it. Stayed in every vehicle I owned to include a motorcycle. I’ve added some things thanks to your advice. Thanks for your videos

The only thing I would add is for anyone out there to get on the internet and look up their local college extension program. Look up the edible wildlife and animals in our region. Print them out, roll them up and they are easy to store in a lightweight rubber tube. Even in the dead of winter you will have some idea of what is out there. Anyone without internet can go print out copies and the local library for just pennies.

3 minutes without air. Don't forget that! Another idea is to have your wife/kids/girlfriend/mom offer input so they get some buy in.

Go to housewares and pick up one the full tang kitchen knives they sell for under ten bucks. They are surprisingly good fixed blade knives.

Awesome video! Because of you, I bought a couple bandanas to keep on hand. Also, Walmart has (or used to) have pure n gentle for $1, which was 70 wipes I think. I bought 4 packs last time. They work well for the dollar.

I actually carry that knife daily. (I have a much better knife in my truck bag). I had just broken a more expensive knife i used for my work knife (I am a mechanical tradesman). Saw this $4 knife while at Walmart though why not...I am actually pretty happy with that cheap knife. I have gotten a very nice edge on it. It is rugged and has stood up to being used as a pry bar and a screw driver (and im not scared to hurt it). Opening the blade is not very smooth but does seem to be getting a little better as I use it. Now like I said I keep a much better choice in my get home bag/truck bag (both a good folder and a fixed blade).

Great informative video. I'm not one to spend several hundred dollars on a get home bag, but can reason putting something inexpensive like this together. I love your videos, but this one particularly I can really relate to. Thanks.

I don't know what it is with my sense of humor, but it got my giggle-box going when the orange matches case fell off the table. Is that just only me or did anyone even notice it? lol

This is very good. But, I wonder about walking across the parking lot to the Dollar Tree and duplicating it there. First aid supplies might be a little higher, your knife will come from the kitchen supplies, you will need bleach instead of tablets and a couple of shower curtains or roll of plastic instead of a contractor bag. But it might be surprisingly close.

If you want a great bang for the buck fixed blade survival knife, look at the Mora 511 knife. It's $10, incredible slicer, and a really high value.

Walmart sells a decent Camillus fixed blade 420 hc steel full tang knife for 9.99 with lifetime warranty. I'd have just gone with it instead of the cheap multi tool and cheap ass pocket knife.
I have one just to carry in a grab and go bag. Better than nothing for sure.

For the price of that pry bar, you could have picked up several items, including three days worth of food, or a fairly decent sheath knife.

I bought one of the $3.97 knives and the screws all backed out. Keep an eye out for places that sell Chinese knives, I've seen them at pawn shops, swap meets and gun shows. If you want the heavier plastic bottles try dollar tree and you can get cheaper back up batteries there too.

Some kind of water container. fixed blade knife. and something to start a fire. that's it. rest can be put away. people survived weeks with less than that.. but for everyone its different.
