Isn't that probably your best dirt and how much do you think you may have lost? Anybody pan that lost dirt to see? Wish you and your growing team the best.

Towards the end of the video I think you might have shown what is called "graded bedding". Imagine a flood that has enough energy to carry those larger rocks. While the largest rocks are moving, the energy of the system will be sufficient to carry all the gold along. The flood eventually will begin to subside and the largest rocks will stop moving. Sand and smaller pebbles along with almost all the gold will stay in suspension or bounce along the bottom in what is called the "bed load". As the flood slows more, sand and gold will begin to deposit in the spaces between the large rocks. The process will continue as the flood subsides with smaller and smaller sand grains being dropped. Eventually silt and mud will deposit and the flood ebbs to the point where the waters are relatively calm. Thus the grain size in the deposit will be graded from coarse the the bottom to finest at the top. The very largest river rocks will be protruding through perhaps all of the deposit. Hey Dan, I'll bet you find lots of good things when panning for gold, like rough gemstones or even platinum. What are the dark flecks mixed in with the gold when the pan is done. I've seen the same thing on "Gold Rush". When the guy's do the weighing at the end of the show, there seems to be a lot of black flecks mixed in. I thought they were adding something like Galena to increase the ounce total. Am I even close?
Good luck. I grew up the granddaughter of a prospector. By the time I was 8 I was planning for gold. I miss doing it. I’ve moved away from my mountains and I can not do the physical work involved. But wow! Gold always brings excitement! 👍🏻😄

Do you have to subtract the stone volume from your calculation? Looks like half of it is round river stones, maybe more.
