This song saved my life. I was suicidal for more than a year. Had many regrets in my life. That last arc REALLY saved my life. This became my favorite band of all time. This song touches deepest parts of my heart and really means the world to me. It's been over a year since that time.
I have problems with both nostalgia and the future. Luckily Haken takes me to the now. While plenty demanding and hard to grasp, their work leaves me speechless with every turn. It's pretty close to what some would call genius or divine. They deserve every bit off goodness they have coming their way!
For the longest time of my life i felt like i had to catch up to where i had to be. Always in the past trying to reach the present. And the future was a black void to me. Finally, i am there where i feel on track and able to sometimes sit back. Not sure if our feelings around this line if lyric align but i think i understand you.
Favorite song ever. I'm terribly nostalgic for the past times and this song has been helping a lot, especially the "If I could run away, I'd choose to live for today" part of lyrics
This song is very interesting: 1:26 - the "Dream Theater" moment, 1:57 - the "Indie" moment, 2:25 - the "Steven Wilson" moment, 4:30 - the "Rush" moment, 4:48 - the "Tool" moment, 5:25 - the "Dream Theater" moment, 6:26 - the "Melvins" moment, 7:03 - the "Disillusion" moment, 8:00 - the "Rush" moment, 8:40 - the "Dream Theater" moment, 8:57 - the "Tool" moment, 9:36 - the "Queen" moment, 10:14- the "Jethro Tull" moment, 11:35 - the "Serj Tankian" moment, 12:54 - the "King Crimson" moment, 14:17 - the "Seinfeld" moment, 15:01 - the "Dream Theater" moment, 16:16 - the "Indie" moment, 16:43 - the "Steven Wilson" moment, 17:44 - "Guns N' Roses" moment.
no. it's way too happy-sappy for that. where is the emotional weight that e.g. Dunkelheit by Burzum has? children know the love will never end? fuck that cheesy shit. it's a great Haken song but that's it.
@@LMTR14 I think you're missing the mark on that analysis. This song is about nostalgia, which is a really powerful emotional experience. Haken managed to capture that really well here.
OMG da fuq? WHere has this been and why isnt it an anthem by now? This is MAGNIFICENT! Its a freaking rock opera! Some of the bets music I have ever heard in my life!
Just wondering what in the world, or another world, the type chords the keyboardist plays in the background during the guitar and bass riffing section between 13:59 and 15:53?
For me this song is like a story about a guy who had suffered some severe trauma and "Crystallised" the moments of when he was happy as a child before the problem. In the beginning of the song, he is dying without regrets: "I have the sky under my feet Sun up above, I am complete Joy fills my heart in Paradise" As his Consciousness fades away, he sees his entire life passing in his mind: - Childhood "Someone's calling me Echoes of a childhood memory" - Love and regrets because of the trauma which was a constraint on his life "I sense your hand searching for mine (I am) Falling through time I feel your love reaching across (Transcend) All the years we lost" - Trauma: "Passages of time Buried in the chaos of my mind Chronicles of life Concealing a truth I can't deny" - Redemption before dying, 'repeating' the beginning in a version of being on Earth with his family yet instead of being a spirit on Paradise: "Mind open wide as I awake I sense a change within myself Hope feeds my soul I realise I feel the earth under my feet Son by my side, I am complete Pride fills my heart in Paradise" The bell section sounds like he was going to reincarnate, but the final section give the idea that he will be gone forever: "The sun will shine The snow will thaw All things must pass Into the unknown" And finally he goes away in peace "Escaping the past by embracing the future" RIP
Hansel Dias They used Gandalf's staff and Sauron's Eye to brew this in Vader's helmet . Then they fed It to Obelix and he stormed the Death Star alone leaving only Stardust .
CodyChief117 That part is fucking beastly (in a good way), right?! And I like how it continues the previous part as some crazy deconstruction of sorts.
For all the people talking about the "a capella" part (starting at 9:36) this is clearly influenced by Gentle Giant (like here th-cam.com/video/EC6BS8WqtNs/w-d-xo.html). YW

So sorry to hear that.
Thank God that you are okay now 🤟
I have problems with nostalgia, and the line "escaping the past by embracing the future." just gets to me every time.

First intro to Haken. I. Can't. Even. Wha? How is this level of genius possible?
Haken is one hell of a drug, welcome aboard :-P
First one's always free... Now time to support the genius and buy some albums :)
I getting into Haken at the moment, this is my favorite song besides Cockroach King and Pareidolia
That A cappella at 9:36 is the most beautiful thing I've heard lately
then you should hear gentle giant
YES!
It is based on Gentle Giant's Free Hand.
@@fsdrums696 sounds very on reflection
Better than Tenacious D fligugigu
I love the Tubular Bells influence in this song. Seriously one of my favorite songs right now.
@@nektarpanagiotis6707 it's a direct rip off, lmao
@@suezuccati304 Gosh, I love TB, I even played it with a band some years ago and I do not find this "direct rip off" that direct :-)
Nice to see Gentle Giant's legacy in good hands.
i really think they summed up mourning perfectly in their lyrics. so bang on. one of the best songs of all time!

wow! Genius scientist just discovered new stuff!
the seinfeld parts slaps
One correction: the Queen moment sounds more like Yes.
the Queen moment at 9"36 sounds more like Mike Olfield the exorcist theme
Queen moment can also be classified as "The Gentle Giant" moment
No. 1 SONG OF ALL TIME
Masterpiece!!!!
the greatest of all time

How about Bieber fucking Baby song? 😂
Mike Portnoy played the "gong" on this track.. lmao
It's probably the most worthwhile thing he's done since he left Dream Theater.
Arguable. The Winery Dogs is a fun rock listen.
Have you listened to Sons of Apollo and The Winery Dogs??
Pretty good stuff imo
Imagine how much he got paid just to smash the gong one time 😂

One of the best songs of all time
God damn I love the vocal mixing that starts at 9:37, so cool..similar to lerpous' first song off their coal album
Reminds me of Gentle Giant, which is always good. :-)
Edit, for good measure: not the whole song but some parts for sure.
And there's a tiny bit of Renaissance as well!
Granted.
Reminds me Frank Zappa...
OMG da fuq? WHere has this been and why isnt it an anthem by now? This is MAGNIFICENT! Its a freaking rock opera! Some of the bets music I have ever heard in my life!
Echoes of a childhood memo REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
I did not see the a-cappella part coming. That was fun.
The album cover is pretty cool!! the song is pretty sick too. Just found out about these guys this morning and I fucking love them!! ROCK ON DUDES XD
Joe Somerville thanks dude!
Same here
it's an ep
This reminds me of a mini musical. Haken don't do musicals but if they did they would be the best musicals ever!
Song starts only at 0:22. Just so you know :)
I want John Myung sing the a capella part LOL 😀
9:45 Randy Marsh wants in on the action
11:36 sounds like dragon roost island of zelda wind waker but in 5/8
Zelda has a lot of progressive music with odd meters in it. Check out a channel called 8 bit music theory. He explains Zelda's odd meters in the OST.
Is there any better song made than this? Every second of the song is fucking perfect.
En mi canal esta la canción subtitulada 😄🤟🏼
Just wondering what in the world, or another world, the type chords the keyboardist plays in the background during the guitar and bass riffing section between 13:59 and 15:53?
11:36 Light Flight from Pentangle
1:48 that snare
Can someone please tell me I'm not crazy to think that 12:53 mark is at least similar so something from Aquarius or some old stuff from their catalog
Is this song about a person who is in his final moments?
Kaze_Senshi don't think so
any theories? im trying to figure this song out for a while now and wd love to hear your view :)
For me this song is like a story about a guy who had suffered some severe trauma and "Crystallised" the moments of when he was happy as a child before the problem.
In the beginning of the song, he is dying without regrets:
"I have the sky under my feet
Sun up above, I am complete
Joy fills my heart in Paradise"
As his Consciousness fades away, he sees his entire life passing in his mind:
- Childhood
"Someone's calling me
Echoes of a childhood memory"
- Love and regrets because of the trauma which was a constraint on his life
"I sense your hand searching for mine (I am)
Falling through time
I feel your love reaching across (Transcend)
All the years we lost"
- Trauma:
"Passages of time
Buried in the chaos of my mind
Chronicles of life
Concealing a truth I can't deny"
- Redemption before dying, 'repeating' the beginning in a version of being on Earth with his family yet instead of being a spirit on Paradise:
"Mind open wide as I awake
I sense a change within myself
Hope feeds my soul I realise
I feel the earth under my feet
Son by my side, I am complete
Pride fills my heart in Paradise"
The bell section sounds like he was going to reincarnate, but the final section give the idea that he will be gone forever:
"The sun will shine
The snow will thaw
All things must pass
Into the unknown"
And finally he goes away in peace
"Escaping the past by embracing the future"
RIP
i think it's about the trauma called growing up and remembering those parts of yourself that you lost along the way.
I thought about same thing + accepting it
What is this sorcery????
Hansel Dias They used Gandalf's staff and Sauron's Eye to brew this in Vader's helmet . Then they fed It to Obelix and he stormed the Death Star alone leaving only Stardust .
What do you call that which is heard at 10:14 and also at 11:35
13:59
CodyChief117 That part is fucking beastly (in a good way), right?! And I like how it continues the previous part as some crazy deconstruction of sorts.
Capella part is like neal morse work.
dan avidan??? is this you???
0:20
9:45 Correct me if I'm wrong, but can this section be considered fugue?
idk, hope i helped
It's not fugue, but definitely contrapuntal
Just came here to say that 6:04 - 6:25 is my favourite part ever of any song period.
Poor you..
